Chapter 24: Bad service

Lilith/Sabrina

"I should go." I whispered with my head pressed against his torso.

I could feel the resistance when I pulled away from his embrace but we both knew we had to go. We had a job to do. I got out of the restroom first with a dumb smile residing on my face. I couldn't believe I left Zach alone in a female restroom.

I had thought I'd never forgive him for what he did.

But a few minutes of intimacy was all we needed. It still surprised me how I found my whole world of happiness in those few moments. Nothing could go wrong now. I hated how much I needed him.

Zach had walked out a few minutes later when the coast was clear. I turned my head back to see him for a moment and winked at him. Everything should be okay now.

As I walked back towards Richard, a strange man appeared in front of me.

The man was darker skinned with a silver stubble along the bottom of his face. He wore round, black-rimmed glasses. His head had already lost all of its hair and his dark brown eyes looked into mine with concern.

"The cops are looking into you. Be careful," he whispered before walking into the restroom himself.

It took me a moment to register what just happened, but I finally recognised the man.

Anthony Miller.

A senior detective from the local police force. My stomach dropped. So this city really was more corrupt than we had thought.

Before I could gather up my thoughts, a masked man jumped out from behind the back door, screaming at the top of his lungs.

Like a wrecking ball, a gruff scream suddenly pierced my ears, shattering my thoughts. The scream could only be compared with a volcanic eruption and I quickly turned my head towards the direction from which it came. A masked man had jumped out from behind the back door and was screaming at the top of his lungs.

"Blood bath!"

He had guns in both of his hands and four bullets were released before anyone could react. My eyes followed the aftermath of it.

The first bullet hit Alessandro's right arm.

The second bullet penetrated Richard's abdomen, barely missing his heart.

The third bullet hit a passing waiter.

The fourth bullet went through David Boskovic's head, killing the Chausse executive on the spot.

Everything happened in a blur of shots and screams. My legs seemed to react before my brain even got a proper grasp of the situation.

Suddenly, I found myself taking cover behind a flipped table beside that man from earlier. His shiny white hair flowed down his neck, almost making me jealous. There was a waterfall of hair covering his face, which he rapidly brushed away, finally noticing me as well.

I raised my eyebrows at him.

"Any idea what's up with this fucker?" I asked as I peaked out from behind the table slightly.

"Must be unhappy with the service," the man laughed, making me stop in my tracks. I blinked a few times before slowly turning my head towards the stranger.

I just looked at him for a moment, blinking rapidly.

The nerve on some people-

"Oh, I'm glad you still have a sense of humour in a situation like this," I mumbled, shaking my head. I pulled my gun out and pointed it at the vigilante. This must have been the guy who ran around and wreaked havoc in the city, calling it justice.

My attention once again wavered when he started screaming again.

"I will cleanse this city from sin!" His voice bellowed through the restaurant.

"Start with the garbage not a restaurant then. Don't you know this place has the best review for hygiene?" the man beside me spoke up again with a wild grin.

I almost banged my head on the table.

The comment made the vigilante turn his attention towards the two of us. He liften his gun up higher and sent two bullets flying in our directions.

The bullets pierced the table, just barely missing my leg. I glared at the man once again, my teeth clenching.

"I am just saying," he whispered to me and I rolled my eyes.

"Maybe it'll be better for all of us if you don't say anything."

Ricky/Zach

As soon as I heard the first bullet, I ducked behind the counter, and ended up crashing into none other than Alessandra Armani.

How is it that everyone seems to be here?

The chocolate-boy from earlier stood up from behind a flipped table, holding a gun up at the vigilante.

He looked young, with curly brown hair and eyes matching it exactly. His eyebrows were furrowed into a frown.

"Stop immediately. I'm Oliver. I'm a cop. Put your hands up where I can see them," he shouted but the masked man didn't even seem to hear him.

Police?

I turned to my side as Alessandra took her gun out from her purse while cursing under her breath. I could only assume she was cursing the shooter.

I heard him say something about cleaning the city from sin. A shiver ran up my spine as the words rang through my eardrums. He sounded like an absolute maniac, screaming at the top of his lungs.

I couldn't imagine where he came from. Definitely some kind of looney bin.

"You think you alone can clean everything up? I am pretty sure you just killed a civilian." I called out as I made my move.

"Necessary sacrifice," the man turned and shot three more bullets in my direction. I just barely ducked away from them. There have been too many closed calls that day.

"Excuses!" chocolate-boy yelled. Both of us finally got out from behind our covers and started shooting at him. He screamed when the bullets penetrated him, but he didn't go down.

He took the opportunity and shot Oliver in his shoulder. The man fell to the floor, the blood oozing out from the fresh hole.

Out of nowhere, Sabrina jumped out from behind her own cover, also pointing a gun at the man. Why couldn't she have stayed there?

She took three shots at the man, but they didn't seem to have any effect on him.

This wasn't in any way natural.

It was like he was a superhuman or something. Absolutely indestructible. I managed to pry my gaze away from Sabrina, and inched closer towards the vigilante.

Just when I was about to shoot him in the head, he hit my hand. My gun fell to the ground and I quickly punched his one away as well.

That was too close for my comfort.

I punched him in his bullet wound but the man didn't even flinch. What the fuck was he? Then his punches hit me right in the chest and my body flew backwards like a baseball.

I broke a few chairs and maybe some of my bones but luck saved me again as I grabbed the gun from the floor and shot him as many times as I could. The crazy son of a bitch finally fell down to his knees when another man hit the last nail in the coffin.

The man fell down, definitely still alive. I took a deep breath and looked to my side to find Sabrina safe and sound. The sight brought a smile to my face. The world around me finally blacked out.

One thing was for sure, I was not taking David out again.

Not that I could even if I wanted to.

At least, I would never be coming back to this restaurant.

Never this.
