****
"I can't believe she found out where Raina was. How did she even know?" Rena spoke as she sat on the couch with me and we lounged in our pajamas. She's the only one I could really open up to and I blame it on her being part of my family.
Well, she's also my right hand. She comes through for me so maybe that's another reason why I open up to her. Her and her family were there when Mama wasn't. When our elementary school principal revealed that Mama went missing, they also revealed that I'd be staying with Rena and her family. Mama didn't know who my dad was and neither did the state. I guess they weren't trying to find him so they just had me stay with Rena.
Her Momma didn't joke around. Her Granny was worse, but they loved hard and kept us in line. She was like and still is like my sister. They basically raised me my whole life so maybe that's why when Rena asks me to do something, I do it.
"Let me tell you how this hoe knew what was going on. Remember when we talked about Heath having a key to the house? Well, he took her to the doctor at Carmon's request and kept her until we got back from the club. How she got here? I don't know, but Carmon better expect a titty punch coming her way real soon," I said taking a sip of my coffee.
It was Saturday afternoon and this conversation required an adult drink but Carmon and Jay locked the alcohol cabinet once they found out the rest of us were drinking it. They didn't want us underage drinking. They were the last ones to preach about that seeing that they were drinking before they even got to high school. Hypocrite ass hoes.
Anyway, coffee was the next best thing. "Tiff and I rode around the town with Brian trying to find this little girl. We knocked on doors and tried to find his house. For some reason, Tiffany wouldn't tell us where he lived-"
"Wait. How would she know where he lived at? He moves often. You know he doesn't just stay in one spot," I said as my eyes watched Rena sip on her orange juice.
"Well, why else would she refuse to tell me where he lived at? She just refused to tell us. She never said why so that's kind of sketchy to me," Rena said.
"I bet you Raina didn't even go to the doctor. Watch this," I said as my eyes landed on an incoming dark brown pigtailed child. Her grey eyes were glued onto a new episode of Spongebob while sitting on the other side of the couch.
"Raina, did you go to the doctor with your dad?" Once I called her name, she snapped out of her intense gaze and looked at us while stretching in her Barney pajamas.
"Nope. Dad said that he had some business to take care of. We went to some dark building but I stayed in the car with some other guy," Raina confessed as she looked at us with a questionable look.
Widening my eyes, I heard Rena shout "What a fucking bastard! She should have gone to school with me or something. At least she would have been safe."
"And Carmon needs to leave that mafia member alone. She's putting her own child in danger," I spoke out of possible hypocrisy. Rena gave me that perched lip look letting me know that I knew better. She better stop giving me that look before I give her a look with the back of my hand. I wasn't wrong.
Okay, so maybe I've had some dealings with a few criminals. So what? At least I was smart enough to leave before it got too dangerous.
Well, I take that back. Leo's a whole different story.
As we continued our conversation, we saw Tiffany prance out of her room with her peach-colored silk pajamas on with her sleep mask on her forehead. Her long blonde hair was curled and fell over her shoulders as she yawned with some kind of poise.
Why my eyes continued watching her as she got a snack from the kitchen? I didn't know. The more I looked at her, the more she pissed me off. This prissy bitch came back into the living room with an orange in her hand saying "Didn't they tell you all that it's impolite to stare?"
"It's also impolite to have your head up your ass all the time. You may not like what you find in there," I spoke as a chuckle couldn't help but come out. My eyes landed on a laughing Rena as she spat out her sip of orange juice.
Sighing at what she probably thought was a terrible joke, she mentioned "Well, I feel that you ladies need to know the apartment is mine tonight. I have a date tonight and would rather not have you all in here."
"Hold up! Who said you can take the whole apartment? It's bad enough that your room's overcrowded. We don't need more stuff from you in here," I accidently admitted to looking in her room. Her ocean blue eyes grew large once she realized what I just said.
"What's a date? And why would you have one?" Raina spoke as Rena chuckled again at the little girl's words.
Forgetting all about the Me, Myself, and I schedule, Tiffany went to pull it off the fridge and held the plan Rena made for us when we first moved here. To keep it short, we were all arguing over having the apartment to ourselves except Rena. She actually stopped the argument and made a schedule.
Now, Tiffany's using it against us to kick us all out for whatever small-dicked gremlin was coming into our house. Thanks, Rena.
"As you can see from this lovely chart made by Rena, it's my weekend. Now this means...get the fuck out before five this evening and make sure you take Little Miss Disaster here with you," Tiffany spoke as she pointed towards her niece.
"Really, Tiff? Don't call Raina names," Rena said catching Tiffany's poor attitude. She didn't know how to deal with this wicked witch of the Gucci like I did.
"At least I didn't burn noodles, Auntie Tiff. Now that's a disaster. Remember when you almost burned the house down by making noodles with no water? We had to call the fire department for-"
"OKAY! Enough. Like I said, disappear before five or I'll make sure you're gone. Thanks," she said as the rest of us laughed our asses off at Raina's interrupted story. Flipping her curled blonde hair, she strutted towards her bedroom and slammed the door in embarrassment. Leave it to Raina to come through with a clapback. A cute one.
"Raina how'd you know that?" Rena finally spoke as we finished laughing.
Sighing at the thought, Raina said "She had some guy over one day and she was supposed to make spaghetti but she tried to make them with our chicken noodles from the little thingy packs. She was supposed to watch me, but she was looking at that guy weird and pushed me away. I wanted to tell her that the noodles were burning, but she wouldn't listen. Now, I will never stay with Auntie Tiff by myself ever again."
'Thingy packs'. She's one cute kid.
About an hour after that, Rena took our bored friend to the go kart track down the street from our house. Minutes turned into hours and I was still stuck on the couch sleeping my time away. Jana was on her way to a gig that was hours away from us. She better hope and pray that I don't find anything I shouldn't. Carmon was on another date. Usually, her dates ended up with her staying at a random man's house so she wouldn't be home any time soon.
Suddenly, my body felt some small fingers push me off the couch with some force and I stood up in anger with my fists balled up. I was so ready to fight whoever pushed me the hell off the couch, but I should have known exactly who it was when my eyes looked up at the ferocious being.
Relaxing my stance and sighing to myself, I heard an angry Tiffany say "Get the hell up, Jessica. I need the house tonight." .
"What the fuck was that for? I oughta give you a quick uppercut to go with the rest of your outfit, bitch," my teeth clenched as she crossed her arms and stood on the other side of the couch.
"Because I need you out of the house. Like now."
"Damn. No manners?"
"No. Why would I be polite to you and I'm trying to get you out of the house? Now while you get ready to leave the house, I'm going to get ready," Tiffany said as she walked into the bathroom.
Stomping on the ground and mock whining at Tiffany's request, I met up with her in her and Carmon's bathroom just to continue with my mock whining. "Do I really have to go?"
She rolled her eyes to me as she curled her hair in the bathroom and said, "Yes, because everyone else is gone so you should be too. By the way, I really don't appreciate you whining like that. I don't sound like that."
If only you all lived with us, you'd see how this childish bitch cries because she didn't have a certain dress that was her size or because she can't watch the Met Gala on the TV since I'm watching the news.
"That's some bullshit, Tiff. You know that. I pay rent here. Just like you. I'm not leaving the apartment," I said as I sat down on the couch. Now I'm bothered because she woke me up from my damn sleep. I can't go back to sleep right now because I won't be able to even close my eyes anymore.
I grabbed the remote and flipped through the channels.
Oh shit! I know what to do!
I couldn't help but think about how great of an idea it was for me to stick around and for her to have the date at our apartment. Something could happen to her and she could have been dead or something if she was at his house. This is the one time Tiffany actually does something smart! As much as Tiffany deserves a horrible date, I can't let that happen.....unless I ruin it. That's a great reason for me to stay!
"You are absolutely ignorant!" Tiffany said rushing to get dressed.
"Suck a fat dick," I said as I continued to flip through channels. Well, I shouldn't have to worry about that. She's going to be doing that in the matter of like an hour.
There's nothing good on TV and it's a Saturday night! There should be new episodes of shows on.
"I'd rather kill myself," Tiffany said rushing into the kitchen.
"You act like I don't know that you are about to deep throat someone's dick in the matter of minutes," I said as I looked over at Tiffany.
"I have no idea what you're talking about. However, I do know that you'll be leaving this house before my date gets here," she said to me.
"Oh please. Stop the saint shit. You know you wanna get fucked in the ass," I said as I chuckled and turned back to the TV.
"Why don't you go over to Brian's house or something?" Tiffany asked as she fixed her dress.
First of all, Brian may have a ratchet girl over there. Second, he's fucking weird. I can't hang with Brian at his house. It's awkward when I'm there with him....
By myself.
"One because I find it funny that I'm cock blocking. Second, I can't be over there by myself. It's weird. Do you not know what happened when I went over there last time? He had a girl there and wanted me to join in a threesome with them. I'm not leaving," I said as I got under my couch cover. I got a little cool.
At this point, I should have just turned the TV off. I was frustrated.
"JESS! Oh! My! Gosh! Find. Something. To. Do," Tiffany said as she stood by the TV.
"I love how angry you're getting about this. Do you not see me doing something? I'm trying to watch TV, but your skinny ass is in the way. I'm keeping myself busy and you aren't helping. By the way, yell at me one more time and you'll be used as the new TV remote up here," I spat as my head rested in my hand on the arm rest.
"I mean go outside of the apartment and do something! Go to a club! Go to a restaurant or something! Damn, Jess!" Tiffany said in anger. I chuckled under my breath and smiled a little.
Suddenly, we heard a knock at the door. Tiffany widened her eyes at me and I gave her a devilish smirk. We both knew who it was.
We raced to the door and I got to it first, but Tiffany pulled me down by my hair and spoke with "Bitch, move away from the door!"
"No! I'm getting the fucking door!" I said as I smacked her from behind.
"It's not your fucking company!" Tiffany said as she held me down.
I flipped on top of her and sat on her. I held her hands down and said "Oh my. This is awkward. Anyway, I'm getting the door. You look like shit anyway." It's like we got WWE going on in here.
"You're going to ruin everything," Tiffany said as she panted.
"That's my job, bitch."
After that, it became a brawl. I pushed her, she tripped me, I slapped her, she stomped on my foot, I scratched her, and it just kept going on. I was being childish, but I wanted to be. I wanted to make Tiffany mad like she did the rest of us every day.
As soon as she bitch-slapped me to the ground, the door flew open and it was Tiffany's date with his eyes widened to us.
He was everything I thought he would be. He was pretty tall. Maybe 6'1. He was white with dark brown hair and green eyes. He was built like a soccer player. He wasn't scrawny, but he wasn't like Dewayne Johnson or "The Rock". Maybe he actually played soccer at the college. Anyway, he wore a nice dark blue suit with a red tie and black dress shoes. He must know nothing about fashion. Either that or he just doesn't care.
"Are you okay?" he said as he smiled at her as he helped her off the floor.
"Yes. I am. I'm sorry I look a mess. We have some people, or animals, that we can't control sometimes," she said as she rolled her eyes to look at me. I smirked and shrugged my shoulders. My job wasn't over though.
"I thought you said your roommates were gone," he said as he walked in confused.
"They were supposed to be, but one decided to stick around for a while. She just wanted to see what you looked like. Now, she's leaving," she said as she turned towards me.
"No introduction? Like I'm not here? Damn, Tiff. You've really gotta learn how to use your manners. I wonder if they have that class at the college. ANYWAY, hello. I'm Jessica. I'm one of Tiffany's roommates. What's your name?" I said as I looked at him. She should be happy that I'm sticking around. Instead, she's too busy pacing around the living room like she needs to think of a plan to save herself.
"I'm Bryce. Nice to meet you," he said as he held his hand out. I don't shake hands when I first meet people. I have a huge trust problem but my hands pointed towards the couch to invite him for a sit while he waited on the diva. She marched to the bathroom to fix herself and I decided to sit and get to know the future ex-husband in Tiffany's life.
"So.....Bryce, is it? Do you play soccer at the college?" I said as I made myself comfortable on the couch.
He rested his arm on the couch and said "Nope. I used to though. I lost the scholarship for that."
He said that like he was kind of proud of that. I don't know much about college, but I know that people lose scholarships for many reasons. Most of them are bad reasons. Like failing a class, quitting an activity or club, or some shit. But it wasn't my place to ask why so I just moved on.
"Well that sucks. College must be super hard," I spoke as I leaned back on the couch.
"You aren't in college?"
"Hell no. I thought about it, but I don't want to be on lockdown for the rest of my life. Too many loans and shit. Half the professors don't even know what they're talking about. Plus, you do so much work to be paid little. I don't think so." I responded.
"How would you know if you don't go? The experience is cool. I got a ton of friends and I've only been in college for about two years."
"Fuck the experience. It's not worth being in debt for the next 20-30 years. It's not worth the stress. Here's what I'll say. If it's for you, go for it. I don't see the hype in college at all. My cousin goes to the same college and she's stressing her ass out every day trying to get shit done at the last minute. She had to change her major like three times. It's too much. If you like it and you think it's for you, who am I to stop you?"
"Well, there's nothing wrong with not going. You could do other things that make more money. A ton of girls do porn around the college."
HOLD UP! Is he fucking serious? This took a left turn onto What-The-Fuck street! Where the hell did that come from?
"Honestly, I thought that Tiffany was one of those girls because of the way she looks. I don't know how I feel now that I know the truth," he said. I widened my eyes and opened my mouth in shock.
Why the fuck is he talking to me like this?! Tiffany wouldn't want a guy like this!
"Are you.....you know what? Why the hell are you here again?" I asked in defense. Something was off about him and he was probably here for the wrong reasons.
"Well, we've been working together in French class. I found her hot and she was super smart so I wanted to know more about her," he said. I wanted to shut this conversation down. He's not making himself look good. The way he called her 'hot' rubbed me the wrong way. He didn't seem serious about her. I tried to play along.
"Since you found her sexy in class, you wanted to see what that mouth do behind closed doors. Correct?" I asked. You wanna know what this clown had the nerve to say?
He looked around and said "To be honest, yeah. How would I be able to see that if we were in a restaurant, you know?" He looked around as if someone else was in here and were going to tell Tiffany. I'm the one that's snitching.
And here's where it all falls down like Kanye West.
"Damn. I bet she sucks and fucks like a champ," he continued as he looked up at me.
You just read that, right? Is he really having a fantasy of Tiffany and him fucking while we're talking? Not only is this fool a fuck boy, but he's also stupid. What a clown. Bozo the Clown, everybody.
"You think I might be able to hit tonight?" he asked, taking me out of my thoughts.
"I wouldn't know. It depends on her mood, I guess," I said sarcastically. I shouldn't be shocked that he's acting like this, but I wanted to throw this fucking couch upside his head.
"Well, she should be in a good mood since I got her these roses. All girls love roses. You know how it is," he finished.
"AlL gIrLs LoVe RoSeS." What the hell? Jana doesn't like roses. She likes dandelions. And guess what, bro?
SHE'S. A. GIRL!
Most men are like this, sadly. They're stupid, just want sex all the time, and think with their dicks. That's why I'm dating a girl now.
Suddenly, Tiffany walked out with beautiful beach curls in her hair, fresh makeup, and a nice dark green dress with no sleeves or straps. She looked great. A beautiful grin popped up on her face as she flipped her hair. I'll be the bigger person and compliment her, but she's going to look terrible when she finds out that Frenchy here is a fuck boy.
"Damn, Tiffany. You look gorgeous," he said as he stood up with the roses to his chest. I hope she throws those damn roses in his face. He's trying to look like he's so fucking innocent. Like he has no intentions to hurt her. He better hope those roses don't go down his throat. Hell, I was mad for Tiffany. I couldn't help but roll my eyes. She would be dumb enough to believe this shit.
"Thank you. I had to fix myself up a little. I see you've met my crazy roommate," she said as she walked up to us. Had I told Tiffany about the conversation Frenchy Boy and I had, she wouldn't have believed me. She was just that ignorant.
So, I left the house in plans of going to see a movie. Instead, my bored ass just continued my little sleep session in my car. Dreaming of marrying my current girlfriend, I hear my phone ring after about a good hour and a half. It was Rena.
"What?" I said in a daze.
"Can you go back to the house and see why the fuck Tiff is crying? She just called and I missed it. Now she just text me saying she's done with men," Rena spoke in a worried voice. Oh, I bet I know exactly why she's crying! I wasn't surprised.
****
It was the evening after that night and we all got to sit down and talk again. "He tried to hurt me. Luckily, Brian came in because Jessica didn't lock the door when she left," Tiffany said as she looked up at me. Well, he would have got in with the key anyhow. Did it matter?
"Well, we're happy you're safe. We have to start checking out who comes to the apartment. We don't want those issues anymore," Carmon said as she pushed her hair back.
"So are you going to press charges or something? What's it going to be like when you go back to French class for the next few weeks. You have to say something," Rena said as she freaked out. The wrong person is freaking out.
"I will say something," Tiffany confirmed. She will not say anything. She's too scared to say shit.
"Well, you really can't. You'll have a hard time trying to get the system to listen to you. You know how people are nowadays. No one trusts anyone nowadays," Jana said. She was right though.
"But it doesn't hurt to try. I'm sure someone will give you their attention and you'll be able to solve this," Carmon chimed in. That brought up a great point that Carmon and I talked about a while ago.
"Carmon, didn't you-"
"Shut the fuck up, Jess. It's a whole new time in our lives now," Carmon interrupted. That bitch better be lucky Jana was sitting by me. I would have gotten up and started swinging.
"Damn, Carmon. Relax. No need to be defensive. What happened?" Jana said as she turned to look at me. Alright, so boom. One night, Carmon came back home drunk. She got in her feelings, cried on my shoulder, and told me something absolutely shocking. She didn't want me to tell everyone else, but it's something everyone should know. She wants to keep Tiffany safe and she's not safe herself.
"Nothing, babe," I said annoyed. Oh great. Now I'm annoyed. Carmon's being as stupid as her sister now. Rena started rubbing Tiffany's back and Tiffany put her head on Rena's shoulder. I was getting bothered by the information and my anger was taking over.
"Carmon, I feel you should take your own advice," I said crossing my arms and sitting back on the couch. She looked at me in shock. She wanted me to shut up, but I was too frustrated to keep it to myself. We're supposed to be friends and help each other, but you don't want anyone helping you on something that can kill you. What kind of sense does that make?
"I get that, Jess. Thanks. It's now over," Carmon said, trying to stop the conversation. We're all friends here, right? Well....kind of. Everyone, especially your own sister, should know what's wrong with you. I'm sure everyone else would help you like I want to. My thoughts eventually became outspoken.
"Carmon, you haven't done anything about Heath hurting you," I blurted. Everyone looked up at me in shock. Oh, I knew Carmon was pissed and it wasn't my place to tell everyone, but they needed to know.
"Carmon, is she serious?" Tiffany asked as she looked at her.
Carmon looked at me in anger and said "I trusted you, Jess." A few small tears fell from her eyes and she held her head down.
"Carmon, we need to know that. We can help both of-"
"No! No you won't! What happened to me is over and done with. This is about Tiffany. Not me," Carmon said as she wiped her eyes and continued.
"We're different in so many ways. The night I came home with those bruises was the same night he hurt me. Now, before you all go crazy, I don't want to press charges. I know that sounds terrible, but it's my body. It's my choice. He was just mad and he didn't mean to do it. He still loves me."
"WHAT THE HELL?! Are you serious?! Who the fuck beats on someone like that because they love that person?! Carmon, you're absolutely in denial or you are delusional! Abuse, or any kind of neglect/hurt doesn't mean love, Carmon! You know that!" I shouted.
"Jessica, sit the fuck down! Relax! Right now is not the time to be screaming and shit! We know all of that," Jana said as she pulled me down to sit.
"That's how Tiffany and I are different. I can handle it. She can't. It's just love licks. I'm okay," Carmon said as she continued to cry harder. Tiffany wrapped her arms around Carmon and held her tight. This is the one time that Tiffany decides to not be a prick.
"Well, you're not getting any more 'love licks'. I refuse to see any of my friends or family get hurt like that. From now on, he's not allowed to be around you nor Raina. No more," Rena declared. Tell her, Cousin! Let her know!
"You can't fucking say that, Rena!" Carmon shouted at her.
"Do you still love this fucktard, Carmon?" Jana asked.
Carmon looked up from Tiffany's hold and said "Yes. That's my daughter's father, my first love, and my everything. I don't want to start over. We were meant to be together. He doesn't mean to put his hands on me. I know it. We just need to go to counseling. That should help. See, Jess?! This is why I didn't want anyone to know! Now everyone's freaking out and shit! I wanted to make this work," Carmon said coming for me.
Tiffany kept holding her as Jana said "Well, I hate to break it to you, but that asshole needs more than counseling. Carmon, no man would even think to put his hands on you like that if he loved you," Jana said. That's exactly what I just said, but go off, babe.
"Oh my gosh. This whole time, you've been with Heath. You haven't been going on dates at all, have you?" Tiffany asked. Carmon nodded her head while still in Tiffany's arms.
"I don't want to leave him," she said as she continued to cry in Tiffany's arms.
"But he doesn't love you or respect you. If he respected or loved himself, he would do the same to you. He would respect the jewel that he had. That jewel is you, by the way," Rena said. Preach, cuz!
"Well, I'm going off of what Rena just said. NO MORE HEATH. Being hurt and abused is not love. You know that I can relate because I went through the same shit, so I say all this shit for your own safety and because I fucking love you. He's filled with anger and stupidity. We aren't here for that shit. He's banned from being around any of us and anyone that hangs around us. This weekend, you are to stay in the house or you will be with one of us. I'll beat his ass if I find out that he's around anyone of us and I'll beat your ass if you even think about him. Do you understand?" I declared.
"Jessica, I'm a grown woman. I can handle my own-"
"Fuck that, Carmon! You obviously can't handle yourself around that fool. Just because you're the oldest doesn't mean we're too young to help you. You've tried doing on your own and look what happened. You've lost your mind. We're taking over. We don't want anything happening to you and we love you too much to see you laying on your death bed! NO MORE HEATH! And I meant that! All in favor, say 'I'," I said as I rose my hand. Everyone else said 'I' and I turned to look back at her. She wiped her eyes and looked down.
"Yeah, we need to stick together no matter what. We're going to make sure that dumb ass trick doesn't come around anymore," Rena added. We all came in for a huge group hug around Carmon. I said what I fucking said!
"I love you guys," Carmon said as she wiped her nose.
I wiped her eyes and said "Yeah, we love you too. But I meant what the fuck I said."
Isn't that a soppy ass story? I'm not usually that soppy, but these are basically my sisters. I refuse to see anyone of them get hurt. Even Tiffany. Even though she deserves to go to hell, I still love her. I've never had a connection like this with anyone else but them. I want to keep it that way. I never grew up with siblings or an actual family besides Rena's. My mom was always gone, running the streets and shit. I'm grateful to have these ladies in my life.
