What's up folks?!
Daaaaaaaammmmmmnnnnn! What was up with that?! Did Jessica really have to do her like that though? Do you think Carmon deserved it?

****
Coming into December was rough. These past few months were absolutely agonizing. I couldn't even celebrate my birthday because of all the pain and dread that filled my heart. Turning another year older did not bring me up. In fact, turning 24 just made me feel old and alone.
Everyone got together for Jessica's birthday that was in September though. Well...everyone except for me. My face couldn't be shown at events such as that. Not just because I was getting small wrinkles, but I couldn't be my regular self anymore.
Usually, they come to me to start the party. Now, I can barely stand the thought of a party or club. Alcohol makes me sick and the feeling of being around happy drunk people would bring me down. That sounds terrible coming from me.
Heath's incarceration was ripping me to shreds. His family and the guards at the prison wouldn't let me see him. Nobody was able to see him besides his family. This tore me apart because they probably think that I put him there.
Thanks to Rena and her snitching ass, a great bond was broken with a special family that would do anything for us. That would go above and beyond to make sure we were fine because I had a child by their son. Yes, this still bothered me and I was still frustrated. It's not like we don't talk to each other anymore or anything. We do, but they still know how upset I am about this.
These girls or my so-called friends just don't seem to understand how much this has affected Loraina and I.
Mostly me though. Raina could have cared less for some odd reason. She went on about her days being the bright, bubbly, loving and nosey little girl she is. Once she found out about her father being in jail (through many side conversations I've had with the police), she didn't seem fazed by it.
When we finally sat down and I broke the bad news to her, her beady little gray eyes looked into mine with a smile on her face and said "Okay, Mommy. I hope he gets better." Then she skipped back over by Rena and helped her with our new Christmas tree.
How do children just move on? It was as if she didn't care for her father's freedom. Maybe my so-called friends put it in her head or something.
Speaking of freedom, there was a chance that my baby's father was going to be in that hell hole for life. When I found out about this (through the news), my heart shattered instantly. I immediately put back money for Heath just in case he needed it. Sadly, the money couldn't be given to him until they let me see him. It was Christmas time. He needed to see his daughter especially right now.
Anyway, after putting back so much money for Heath, I realized that I was broke. Forgetting all about this whole Secret Santa thing that Nikki came up with for everyone at work, I had to get something fast. The only thing that I could afford was a ten dollar gift card to Walmart. Everyone who worked on the top floor of the building had to participate, so about 30 of us were participating in this game. This was also around the same time that Mr. Fuck Boy had gone on a business trip for the past three or so months.
Oh, he was on a business trip alright. He was on a trip, minding his own business. I just never seen someone be gone that long for a business trip, but there's probably been people that go on business trips longer than that.
I will say that it's been a bit hectic since he's been gone. Justin was in charge and he kept hitting on me every chance he had. He was like a boomerang. After you send him away for so long, he comes right back. The advances were getting uncomfortable, but not as uncomfortable as it would be seeing Mr. Carter back in the office. The last time we actually spoke to each other was when we had sex. He left right after that.
Anyway, it was day of the gift exchange and my stomach was in knots. I work in a place where people make so much money that they could by a whole dealership for someone on Christmas. Me showing up with a 10 dollar gift card and a pretty 4 dollar Christmas card with a child's writing on it was unacceptable.
Rethinking the decision to purchase this card, I slowly turned on my purple heels and walked back to the elevator. Plus, I was in no mood to really give anything and walking into this busy lobby made me homesick. I wasn't over the Heath situation and being in the same room as my boss, no matter how many people are in the room, would just be too awkward.
As soon as my finger fell on the button to go back to my car, here comes Nikki catching me with a "Good morning, Carmon! Are you ready for the Secret Santa exchange?"
Hell no.
Should I answer this question honestly? Once my ears heard her lovely voice, I turned to see her standing behind me with a smile of delight on her face. A feeling of elation came off her and she just seemed so excited. Damn it. That answered my question.
"Absolutely. Just revving to go," my lips parted as a sarcastic smile fell over my face. Sadly, she couldn't read it. Her petite hands grabbed mine and she led me towards the meeting room. My eyes rolled to the back of my head as my body followed her.
After looking into the meeting room, I wished that my body had never followed her here. The whole room was filled with mostly suited immature dicks. There was only about 5 women in the room which included Nikki and me. The biggest one sat at the front of the room with a small smirk on his face. His sea blue eyes, alongside many other juvenile eyes in these same suits, were all over me as soon as I walked through that door.
My eyes, however, were all over the six perfectly wrapped boxes that sat on the floor beside him. Two of them were wrapped in purple wrapping paper which is why they caught my attention.
Purple is just a beautiful color. The one at the bottom was wrapped in pink and the one at the top was wrapped in orange wrapping paper. The color scheme was a bit off, but the purple took over the other two.
So it was true what they said and that's why everyone was so excited for Mr. Carter to be back. He treated his Secret Santa with many gifts. Everyone around here hoped to get Mr. Carter. I can't lie. I had hope in my heart that he was my Secret Santa but didn't mind if anyone else was it. It didn't seem like he got much, but everyone else made it out to be as if he bought a whole Walmart store or something. Then again...maybe the whole Walmart store was in those boxes. They were pretty big.
"Alright, alright, everyone. Settle down. First off, I wanted to say thanks to everyone for participating in our Secret Santa game this year!" Nikki said excitingly as she stood by an intrigued Mr. Carter.
His eye contact never broke with me. It was strange. His eyes watched me like he was ready to eat me for dinner. Usually, it wasn't a problem. Right now, it was a problem. I wasn't feeling well.
Stopping my eye contact with my supervisor, my eyes shot down to my small gift card thinking about how I couldn't get anything big for Nikki. My heart couldn't help but feel terrible. I just decided to hold it in my lap under the table. Everyone else had a huge box for their Secret Santa. They had to get something extravagant for theirs. This whole room called me poor in the matter of minutes.
"Did we really have a choice?" one of the childish business men joked as everyone else chuckled alongside him. His question sparked up a conversation around the room. Nikki was turning red and looked so nervous.
Mr. Carter's face fell from a smirk to a disappointed look so fast. His fingers snapped and the immature boys sat at attention as soon as he snapped. His blue eyes looked at the man that commented and said "Move those lips again and they'll be on the floor. Understand?"
The guy shook his head rigorously and sat up with his mouth shut. It was spectacular to watch. These men had no respect for us, but Mr. Carter's actions showed how much respect he had for us. He had these guys at attention like they were in boot camp!
"Anyway, I'll start off with my gift. I was Mr. Carter's Secret Santa," Nikki said proudly as she passed her boxed gift to him. What could you possibly get a man who could by anything he wanted? It had tons of ribbon and snowman paper all over it. He politely smiled and thanked her for the gift. Way to get into the spirit, Nikki.
Soon, everyone exchanged their gifts to their people. Mr. Carter grabbed the orange gift box and gave it to one of the business men. That guy was so lucky. There were endless of possibilities of what the gift could be, but we all know it was going to be good.
As everyone else was giving their handshakes and hugs, I hid my gift behind my back and tapped on Nikki's shoulder. Her bright grey eyes turned to me and smiled.
"Hey, girly. Merry Christmas," I introduced before giving my gift to her. She looked at it and opened the envelope with a focused look on her face. Maybe she was looking forward to a big gift. My heart sank a bit as she read the card that Loraina signed and drew all over. She left me with a small right corner to sign my name with.
After she was done looking at the card, she looked up at me with a big smile on her face. "Carmon, thank you! I didn't think that you were my Secret Santa!"
"Well, you're kinda not supposed to know. I know it's not much, but-"
"Girl, please. I love it. I could really use this. Thanks again for participating, Carmon," she interrupted as she wrapped her arms around my body and gave me the tightest hug. It was much needed. It's been a while since I was held that tightly. Knowing that the present was appreciated made me feel a bit better.
"Are you ready to go eat? My treat?" Nikki offered as she hooked arms with me and smiled at me. At first, I thought she was going to be a strict person that was always by the book. She was really the person that started the party around here. It was as if I had a new friend in her.
"Sure. Let's go," I said with a smile on my face.
Once we realized that everyone had left, we walked towards the meeting room exit. Thinking that everyone was gone, we prepared ourselves for lunch by thinking about what we wanted to eat. All of the sudden, we heard a "Ms. Barrett, can I speak with you please?"
Shit. Not again.
Turning around to face a seated Mr. Carter, my heart dropped. Nikki knew that I didn't feel like sticking around with him. "Sure. I'll stick around over here and-"
"Alone?" he asked with a low voice. A quizzical look came over his face as my eyes switched over to Nikki, hoping that she would say something to him. As soon as she spoke, my eyes closed in hopes that she would get through to him.
"Well, we were just about to go out to lunch together. If you wanted to come-"
"You guys can enjoy an early day today. Go out to dinner with each other or something. Right now, I need Ms. Barrett," he said as his signature scent passed through my nose.
Shit. He was standing near me. I was in no mood for this today. He was not getting the fucking hint.
"Well...yes sir. I'll wait for you outside, Carmon," Nikki spoke as I widened my eyes at her and she gave me a sympathetic look as if she tried. She surely didn't try hard enough!
Once she walked out of the room, silence fell over the room for a minute. It was very uncomfortable. I was in no mood to do anything with this man today, but he was my boss. Whenever he wanted it, he could get it right then and there.
Rolling my eyes, I turned on my heel slowly to a handsome and tall glass of water. Sighing to get my heart rate to slow down, my lips opened with dread. "Yes, Mr. Carter?"
He looked in my eyes with no emotion and walked around me towards the other five presents he forgot to give his Secret Santa. Why did he need me in here? To deliver those to his Secret Santa even though he could have done that when he was in here?
My face gave off a confused look as he placed the boxes down in front of me on the table. He pointed at them and said "The bottom pink one is for your daughter. The rest are yours. Consider this as my apology and then some. I suggest you open the top one right now."
My eyes widened in shock. I didn't know how else to feel. Why would I open some presents that I may have to pay him back for in the long run? What if he was expecting something from me later? Like being his sex slave or giving away my whole paycheck for a whole year. I just couldn't risk it.
"Mr. Carter, as much as I really appreciate these, I just can't-"
"Carmon, stop calling me that. Call me Trent. Now, open the first box," he demanded as he stood beside me and faced me. His eyes stayed on me as my eyes stayed on the first box. I could feel his eyes watch me. It just couldn't happen though. He just wanted something in return and I couldn't give that to him in that moment.
"Mr. Carter-"
"Carmon, what did I just tell you about that? Open the damn box," he said as he came closer to me letting his heavenly aroma enter through my senses. Whatever personal space we had was gone.
There was no telling what was in these boxes and I didn't want to find out, but the tone in his voice made me open them. As I placed my hands on the first box and moved it to the side of the stack, he wrapped his arms around my body and my thoughts of what was in the box were interrupted.
That was something that I wasn't used to. It made me feel uneasy. Pushing his hands off with my right hand, my left hand tore off the paper from the box. Once I took the lid off the box, my eyes landed on a jaw-dropping gift. My eyes widened and my mouth fell to the ground. It was something that only us working class humans couldn't afford and could only see through commercials and most romance movies.
In the box lie an elegant silk satin purple dress that fell off the shoulder and had a low v-neck. It shined from the light of the window and smelled as if it just came from the designer store. Looking at the tag that sat on the back of the dress, I knew it would be an Arturo Gardetelli piece.
I was in awe, but my eyes shot back at a smiling Trent whose arm was wrapped around my waist. That made me question what his motives were. Why the hell did someone like me need this kind of dress? It was like a thousand dollar dress made from the finest silk in the world. So why did he get this for me?
"Do you like it? I brought it from some fancy French designer dude that had his own store. Once I saw it, I thought that this would be the perfect dress for my date to wear to the upcoming charity ball," he explained as my eyes studied the beautiful dress again. He couldn't be serious.
"Well, Arturo Gardetelli isn't just some fancy French designer dude. He's an Italian designer that makes all of his fashions in the color purple. Jeez, I've been around my sister way too much," I accidently blurted as he walked around me and chuckled under his breath a bit.
This dress was to die for, but I remembered that going to this event wasn't going to happen. The thought of going to this charity ball while wearing this extravagant dress would have been amazing, but who would watch Loraina in her time of need? Who was going to be there when Heath called? I wouldn't be able to know when Heath was available to take visitors. I don't even know when this event is supposed to take place.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Carter. As much as I would like to go to this ball and wear this absolutely beautiful dress, I can't. There's so many things I have going on right now," I finally revealed.
As soon as my eyes moved from the dress, they looked up at an upset Trent with his hands crossed over his chest. This didn't look good, but a mother has duties to uphold.
Right after I was about to turn and leave, a huge laugh bellowed from his chest. What the hell was he laughing about? Was he mocking me yet again?
"May I please ask what's so funny, Mr. Carter?" my voice spoke with so much confusion as my hands placed themselves on my hips. He shook his head in delight and smiled at me while closing off space between us again.
While showing off his pearly white teeth, he pushed my head up with his finger under my chin and said, "Who said it was an option?"
My eyes widened while my shoulders and jaw dropped to the floor. Who was he to force me away from my family? I didn't even know when this was going to be.
"You have a month to get yourself together. I'd start hiring a babysitter now," he said as he removed his finger from my chin and walked out of the meeting room. Grunting loudly in the sound-proof room, I slammed my hands against the table.
This job required things that weren't listed in the job description and I was sick of it.
