Why I Write
The film industry always fascinated me, especially as a young girl. My mother works for Universal Studios Hollywood in marketing and ticketing, and I had the chance to go behind the scenes on many of my youthful explorations of the industry. I was a writer and a forward thinker, invariably dreaming about the next best film or television series.
I was a troubled child with lousy and reckless behavior, always getting into trouble and messing out with everything I did. I was mainly curious and experimented with a lot of different things. Telling stories was one of my favorite experiments.
I was eleven when I wrote my first actual script with the Young Storytellers Foundation group. I am still friends with a lot of my mentors. While growing up, I did not know what path to take as an adult. I wanted to be an actor, a veterinarian, and the occasional science nerd. Then there was my fascination with film and television and the behind-the-scenes magic.
I didn't realize until I hit eighteen that I wanted to be a scriptwriter. At eighteen, I went through a tough time, but writing and telling stories often gave me a voice and something to get my mind off my daily crises. At one point, I questioned my path. Was I making the right choice? Is screenwriting really for me? After five traumatic years, I could finally answer that boggling question. Yes, I have always been a scriptwriter.
I've worked hard over the last ten years to make my works public and show the world my talents that were once overthought. Now I'm ready to tackle the challenge of owning my life choices and why I exist today.
Writing keeps me optimistic. I can share stories with the world and give others something to look forward to each time they turn on their tv screens. I can provide people with something to get excited about and somewhere people can escape when times get hard. I am a screenplay writer. I always have been; always will be a screenplay writer.
