I slowly pushed myself off of the motorcycle and limped over to Barb, much to the protests of Harley. She put her arms out, as if to catch me, but before she could, I punched her square in the jaw. Due to the fact that I had used all my strength, a sickening crack was heard and she stumbled back. "That was for being late. How did you find me anyway?"
"We were actually just on patrol." She whispered.
"Excuse me, what did you say?"
"We were just on patrol." She repeated slightly louder.
"It's okay I get it. I understand why you stopped looking for me." I growled.
"We didn't stop-"
"Then why are you on patrol? If it were me you'd be back at the apartment by now. You know why. I care about you more than anyone else in this city. I love you Barbra." I cried. Her eyes seemed to tear up for just a moment before she blinked them away.
"I'm looking for you every night on patrol." She tried to defend herself.
"That's a lie and we both know it. I'm tired of being second choice. Find a new backup because unlike you Harley cares. Maybe I should just become her friend." I pointed behind me at Harley with my thumb. "Oh, and Bats? Tell my mom she can go fuck herself." I turned around and limped back to the bike. "Oh and Joker is in the warehouse on sixth street. He won't be a problem anymore."
I got back on the bike with the help of Harley. She sent a deadly glare at Barb, and I almost felt bad for her. She revved the engine, and we were off.
Once we reached the place Harley was staying I understood why she didn't call it a house. It was a warehouse on the edge of town that looked pretty crappy from the outside. When I walked inside I was amazed, not just by all the cool new weapons, but also by all of the animals. Other than a few new additions to the family, it was just like I remembered. This is where she had raised me.
Three hyenas ran over and knocked over Harley, licking her face in affection. When they finally noticed me they started to growl and surround the woman they were trying to protect from this stranger. "Hey, this is a friend. She's going to be staying with us for a while, so you better learn to like her." She scolded the cats. The. She looked at me. "Same goes for you. I'll kick you out before I kick them out."
I just gulped in response.
I was home, but it felt like something was missing. Like someone was missing. Almost like a part of my soul had broken off and gotten lost in the emptiness inside of me. And it didn't feel good.
