Thirty-Five
Fred was woken up when he was shaken roughly by Pettigrew, who grabbed Fred's arm and quickly apparated the two men out of the room for the first time in months.
Calliope quickly followed by focusing on Fred, she opened her eyes and found herself stood beside Fred, who was sprawled out on the grass in a dark graveyard.
"Merlin no," Calliope murmured.
"What's wrong?" Fred whispered so that only Calliope could hear.
"It's happening," Calliope said, "the graveyard- Fred he's going to regain his own body now."
Pettigrew grabbed Fred by the scruff of his shirt and dragged him away from the main body of the graveyard and behind a large gravestone, "stay quiet boy." Pettigrew squeaked, not sounding very confident in what he was saying.
Pettigrew left Fred who seemed beyond confused at what was happening. Moments later there was a shuffling that could be heard in the graveyard. Calliope gave Fred a pointed look and pressed her finger to her lips, then she left Fred to see two people scrambling to their feet beside a cup that was emitting a strange blue light.
"Where are we?" Harry Potter asked as Cedric Diggory pulled him to his feet.
Diggory shook his head, and looked down at the cup with a frown on his face, "did anyone tell you that the cup was a portkey?"
"Nope," Harry said.
Before either of the newcomers could work out what was going on, several things happened at once. The first thing was that Fred jumped up from behind the bush and ran towards Harry and Cedric shouting, "run!"
The next thing that any of them knew, both Cedric and Fred had been blasted away from both Harry and the cup and had been tied tightly with chains a gravestone. Voldemort emerged into the graveyard with Pettigrew close behind him. Voldemort had an amused smile as he looked at Cedric and Fred struggling to escape their bonds, Voldemort's smile grew even wider when his eyes rested on a very confused Harry.
"Calliope?" Harry frowned, not understanding what was happening.
"No Potter I am not the banshee," Voldemort laughed a high, cold laugh, "Wormtail, restrain him."
Pettigrew did as he was told, he dragged Harry over to a large marble grave that had the name 'TOM RIDDLE' inscribed upon it. Harry was quickly bound to the gravestone. Whilst this happened, Voldemort made his way over to a large cauldron with a bubbling liquid inside of it.
"Fred," Calliope said, "cover your ears," Fred shot her a confused look, which she did not see as her eyes were fixed upon Voldemort, who was lighting a fire underneath the cauldron. Seeing the determined expression on Calliope's face, Fred did as he was told, he struggled against his bonds, and was able to cover his ears and block out sound.
Calliope let out an earsplitting scream that no one could hear, but Voldemort could feel it. He let out a shrill laugh, which made everyone in the graveyard jump, "the banshee is attempting to prevent what is prophecised. There is no escaping this halfbreed! I shall rise again, and there is nothing that you can do to stop it!"
With that, Calliope's body fell to the floor and a dark mist escaped it, the mist settled into the liquid in the cauldron.
"Bone of the father, unwillingly given, you will renew your son!" Wormtail declared, the surface of the grave that Harry was stood on cracked, and a fine trickle of bone dust floated its way into the cauldron at Pettigrew's request. Once the dust had settled in the cauldron, Pettigrew began whimpering as he spoke the next line, "Flesh of the servant, w-willingly given, you w-will revive your master!"
Calliope watched in utter horror as Pettigrew drew a knife and stretched his right hand out over the cauldron. He gripped the dagger tightly in his left hand, and swiped it down, cutting his right hand off. Calliope heard a thunk, as it hit the bottom of the bubbling cauldron, and tried to ignore the pitiful scream that escaped Pettigrew which was reminiscent of a wounded animal, as he cradled his stump of an arm close to his body. Pettigrew continued to cry out in pain as he neared Harry, who had his eyes screwed tight shut.
"B-blood of the enemy, forcibly taken, you will resurrect your foe!" Pettigrew stammered, he drew the same bloody dagger he had used on his own hand, to cut a long gash down Harry's arm. He scrambled in his robes for a phial, and caught a dribble of Harry's blood in it, which he then poured into the cauldron.
It seemed that Pettigrew's job was done, and he slumped to the ground and curled up in a ball and cried on the floor beside the cauldron.
Several moments passed with only the noise of Pettigrew crying and the cauldron bubbling, and then Fred seemed to lose patience.
"Callie what's happening?" he demanded.
"I have no id-" Calliope started, but her words were cut off when she was dragged towards the place that Voldemort had abandoned her body by an unseen and unknown force. Before she knew it, she was pushing herself up and looking around, for the first time in months in a fully solid body. A surge of steam billowed out of the cauldron, prompting Calliope to tightly grab the wand that was stowed in her robes and scrambled away from the cauldron.
As the vapour cleared, a figure emerged from the cauldron.
"Robe me," a high, cold voice said. Pettigrew scrambled to pick up some black robes from beside the cauldron and one-handedly pulled them over Voldemort's head. He had done it, he had a body again.
Voldemort regarded Harry for quite some time before he turned on Fred and Cedric. He drew a long white coloured wand from inside his robes and pointed it at them. he shifted it to point at Fred and then to point at Cedric.
"You should feel honoured boy, you will be the first spare to die for Lord Voldemort's rebirth," Voldemort said, sounding bored, "Avada Kedavra." A jet of green light hit Cedric square in the chest, and Calliope felt as though she had been stabbed with a thousand daggers all at once.
The pain that followed Cedric's death was overwhelming, it coursed through her veins and engulfed her entire being, why was it so overwhelming? No other death that she had experienced had caused her so much pain, she couldn't comprehend anything, no words, no sound, no feelings other than pain.
Fred looked on, still bound to the corpse of Cedric Diggory, he could do nothing but look at Calliope as she sobbed on the floor. Fred could almost feel the pain radiating off of her, and he could only imagine that the reason was that she was in such close proximity to death.
Fred struggled against his bonds and didn't register anything of the exchange between Harry, Voldemort and Pettigrew, because all that he wanted to do was make Calliope's pain go away, to hold her close to him and protect her from the world.
Death Eaters appeared all over the graveyard, this was the first thing that Fred noticed other than Calliope. Voldemort began to address the Death Eaters, as he paced around the circle that they had formed, but Fred didn't hear what they were saying, as his world was consumed by Calliope's whimpers. She had stopped writhing now, and simply lay on the floor with her eyes screwed shut, that was when Fred noticed the wand clutched in her hand.
She had a wand. That wand could be their saviour. Whilst the Death Eaters and Voldemort's attention was entirely on Harry, Fred whispered to Calliope.
"Callie, I know it hurts, but you have to get up," he whispered, "you have to get us out of here."
With her body still aching, Calliope half crawled and dragged herself towards Fred, she placed her wand in his hand, and he tapped the chains that bound him, "Alohamora," the chains sprung apart. Cedric fell onto the floor, it seemed that the chains had been the only thing holding him in a sitting position.
A beautiful mix of colours drew Fred and Calliope's attention, as a golden light emerged from Harry's wand. He and Voldemort had been locked in a duel, and now a golden light engulfed both Harry and Voldemort. The Death Eaters seemed frantic. They had no idea what they should do without their master barking orders at them. After merely a few moments the golden light exploded, and several humanlike figures made out of the light surged towards Voldemort.
Harry wasted no time and ran straight to Cedric's body.
"Grab on!" Harry yelled, Fred, grabbed onto Harry's shoulder, and held to Calliope tightly as Harry yelled, "Accio portkey!" And the world turned upside down.
The world turned upside down! The world turned upside down! My inner Hamilton nerd is showing.
