Part 7: Everybody's a Suspect!

Riley house: Front porch

At the Riley house, Sidney and Tatum casually talk to each other but whatever's on mind, trying to prevent the topic being about Billy or anything else related to last night.

It varies from Randy, to hobbies, to favorite movies, until there's then just silence, not of suspense, but a peaceful silence. That is until Tatum brings up a theoretical question about a certain someone.

"What if Cotton Weary is telling the truth?" Tatum theorizes out of the blue. "Maybe... He was having an affair with your mom..."

"I mean, your dad was always out of town on business." She then brings up, letting her mind speak. "Maybe... maybe your mom was just a very unhappy woman."

Sidney looks into nowhere for a couple minutes, considering it herself before replying. "If...If there were having an affair, then how come Cotton couldn't prove it in court?" She questions.

Tatum shrugs. "Well, you can't prove a rumor, that's why, it's a rumor." She notes.

"Right, a rumor created by that little tabloid twit, Gale Weathers." Sidney bitterly remarks, saying the name with venom.

"It goes further back Sid...." Tatum hesitantly mentions. "There's been talk about other men."

"And you believe it?" Sidney prods. Tatum grows weary under Sidney's gaze, now worried that she's poked a bear.

"Well... I mean you can only hear Richard Gere gerbil story so many times before... you have to start believing it." Tatum admits with a sigh.

The discussion makes Sidney stand up and look into the street just so she doesn't start getting emotional again. She argues, but part of her has wondered too if maybe Cotton might have been framed for her mother's death. If so, she played into the killer's hands.

The look of Sidney causes Tatum to sigh with a hint of regret. "Oh, I'm sorry..." Tatum softly walks up next to her. "Look, maybe... maybe you should talk to Y/N about it. " She then suggests.

Sidney turns to her with a curious look. "He's went through a similar experience that you did, and it's been at least three years in his case." She mentions, comparing the two scenes. "It could help talking to someone who knows what you're going through."

Sidney thinks about it for a moment, then nods. "Thanks, Tatum." She says, hinting a smile on her face, Tatum nods with a similar look. Sidney then looks back into the street, thinking about the news this morning.

She still remembers that face Cotton wore as he was taken into the police car, it was ultimately bitter, angry at an unfair world, an unjustifiable punishment. "You know, if I was wrong about Cotton Weary then... the killer's still out there."

"Don't go there Sid, you're starting to sound like a Wes Carpenter flick or something." Tatum shuts the conversation down right there. "Don't freak yourself out, okay? We've got a long night ahead of us."

She puts a relaxing hand on Sidney's shoulder. "Let's boogie." She beckons inside so they can both change into something else.

In the background, Ghostface emerges from a tree, leaving the premises....

Today is busier than usual. Y/N and Randy put up DVDs while the good old Frankenstein plays in the background. Meanwhile, Billy Loomis and Stu Macher amble around the horror section of the store.

Luckily for Y/N, they get to wear black as they do whatever their job demands, weather it's sound depressed, put up DVDs or sound depressed. Y/N's stuck with the second option, and usually is able to put up a masquerade of someone who's always willing to help if you ask for something.

While moving his cart to the next area, he lets his mind trail, thinking about the possible future once this move is said and done. Though, of course, that's saying this will be the only one, our friendly director wants to make a trilogy out of this.

"Excuse me?" Y/N hears a teenage girl his age address him. The second his face turns to her, he notices her eyes slightly enlarge. "Y/N?"

Y/N takes a moment, but then quickly realizes who it is. "Angelina?" He queries.

"That's right!" The girl identifies. The two are slightly surprised they recognized each other so quickly, since they only know each other in English class. "I forgot you worked here."

"Yeah well, you forget a thousand things everyday." Y/N shrugs as he continues lining the shelf. He then realizes he should probably make small talk. "Still hoping to get into acting?"

"Yeah, I've been trying to pressure my mom to inviting me to Hollywood, but I guess that takes time." Angelia shares and Y/N nods, semi-distracted. "That reminds me, where's the movie with that badass guy with the chainsaw."

"Evil Dead, want the chainsaw, look for the sequel." Y/N instructs, having finished the current shelf. "Horror/Supernatural section." He points to a section behind her.

Angelina thanks him and walks off while Y/N moves on to the next section, where he finds his friend Randy next to as he almost runs into a guy while pretending his cart is a motorcycle.

"Man, look at this place, it's completely packed." Y/N whistles as he gazes around the store. There's at least one person at every shelf, which makes it less quiet than it used to be.

"We had a run in at the mass murder section." Randy playfully states as he gets back to his job. And he's not wrong, when tragedy strikes, everyone wants a distraction or escape.

"No kidding."

Stu abruptly butts in, playfully scream as he purposefully smacks the DVDs out of Randy's hands. "You're such a dork." Randy groans while Stu laughs at his expense, guess Billy is rubbing off on him.

"You guys coming to my fiesta?" Stu asks as if he didn't invite Y/N already, mostly extending the invitation towards Randy.

"Yeah, I'm off early." Randy confirms after picking his stack back up, to which Y/N smiles. "Curfew, you know?"

"Cool..."

Another teenage girl turns to Randy. "What's that... werewolf movie with E.T's mom in it?"

"The Howling, horror, straight ahead." Randy points to the shelfs behind her, to which the girl nods. Randy's eyes follow her there for a moment, then does a double check when he sees who else's over there. "Aw, now that's in poor taste."

"What?" Stu questions as the three of them turn to see Billy Loomis chatting it up with a couple girls at the place Randy just pointed to a second ago.

"If you were the only suspect in a senseless bloodbath, would you standing in the horror section?" Randy queries, glancing at you-know-who.

"Ah, our boy is learning about foreshadowing..." Y/N exclaims in a faked, excited tone, to which Stu scoffs.

"If you want to spot your killer, that's one of the things you have to know." Randy proudly states, and Y/N chuckles at him.

"Come on, it was just a misunderstanding." Stu argues, reminding Randy of the fact that the police themselves released Loomis. "He didn't do anything."

"You're such a little lapdog. He's got killer printed all over his forehead." Randy remarks, claiming his main suspect.

"Even after that call in the Riley house?" Y/N brings up, seemingly disagreeing also.

"Yeah, why'd the cops let him go, smart guy?" Stu debates with Randy, leaning onto the shelfs.

"Because obviously they don't watch enough movies." Randy states, passionate about the subject. "This is standard horror movie stuff, Prom Night revisited man."

"Yeah? Why would he want to kill his own girlfriend?" Stu questions, the idea of a two-and-a-half-year couple coming to blows with knifes sounding silly.

"There's always some stupid, bullshit reason to kill your girlfriend." Randy states as a matter of fact. Y/N nods at this, although Stu doesn't look convinced. "That's the beauty of it all simplicity. Besides, if it gets too complicated, you lose your target audience."

"Well, what's his reason?"

"Maybe Sidney wouldn't have sex with him?" Randy theorizes, shrugging as he tries to hide smile on his face as he thinks of the name.

"Hehe, what? Is she saving herself up for you?" Stu skeptically jeers as he leans further on the shelfs, waiting for a funny response.

"Maybe." Randy replies with a hint of dreaming hope. He glances at Billy for a moment before stepping closer to the two. "Now that Billy tried to mutilate her, you guys think Sid would go out with me?"

"..........."

".............."

".........."

"HA!" Stu blurts out with a alien-like laugh, pointing at the horror fan as he tries to control himself. "No, I don't at all, no." Stu then voices seriously. "The only other person I can see jumping Sidney's bones is Y/N, in the unlikely chance that they do break up."

"Honored." Y/N comments.

"You know who I think it is?" Stu leans in, his voice getting low. "Yo, I think it's her father. I mean, why can't they find her pops, man?"

"Nah, nah, nah, that's too obvious." Y/N shakes his head, he decides to throw a theory around for fun. "I think it's actually Dewey."

"The deputy?" Stu giggles, slightly entertained. "Where'd you get that from?"

"Well, I heard from Tatum that he was patrolling around solo during the night of Casey's murder." Y/N tells the two, with that detective-like tone. "And he was literally the first one to respond to Sidney's call. That's not ringing any red bells?"

"No, it isn't. Because he was at Tatum's house during the call, remember?" Randy rebuttals. "He's just that fun little suspect the movie's gonna play around with.

"Oh yeah? And why exactly is Neil Prescott off the hook?" Y/N then questions. "Haven't you seen the Prowler? Him being gone for a while doesn't count him out as a suspect."

"That's because he's probably dead!" Randy guesses, to which Y/N raises a brow.  "His body will come popping out in the last real somewhere! Eyes gouged out, fingers cut off, teeth knocked out!" Randy loudly exclaims, causing Stu to shush him as he and Y/N nervously looks around. "See the police are always off track with this shit. If they watched Prom Night, they save time. There's a formula to it, a very simple formula! EVERYBODY'S A SUSPECT!"

Awkward silence. Everyone stares causing the three to be covered with slight embarrassment. Y/N sighs as he covers his face with his hands while Stu gestures to some people nearby that he's just high right now. (He's not.)

"I'm telling you guys, the dad's a red herring, it's Billy." Randy says before walking off, accidently bumping into the very man of topic.

"How do we know you're not the killer?" Billy questions as he grabs Randy's shirt and forces him to look him in his face. "Huh?"

"H-Hi, Billy..." Randy nervously blurts out. Stu walks behind him and puts his arms on his shoulders, while Y/N stands to his side with his arms crossed, leaving Randy with no place to escape.

"Maybe you're horror-freaked mind lost it's reality button." Billy censures, clearly not appreciating the accusations very much. "You ever think of that?"

"You're absolutely right, I'm the first to admit it." Randy says in surrender. "If this were a scary movie, I'd be the prime suspect."

"What would be your motive?" Stu queries as he creepily plays with Randy's ear lobe, something even Y/N's weirded out by.

"It's the Millennium." Randy notes as he shrugs Stu's hands off him. "Motives are incidental." He states.

"Millennium." Billy quotes, faking an impressed look. "Hmm.... Millennium, I like that." He chuckles as he forcefully grabs Randy's nose like a bully in a 80's flick.

Y/N chuckles at the two. "Okay, I think that's enough." He advises as he calmly puts a hand on Billy's shoulder, pulling him away. "I think he got the message-"

"Billy?"

Everyone turns to face the familiar face of Sidney Prescott, there's a slight pause as most of them are surprised to see her here. "Guys, what is this?" She then says after a minute of silence. Billy blinks, then realizes what Sidney just walked into.

"Nothing." Billy shrugs, he seems slightly embarrassed, but recovers quickly to a casual smile. "We were just messing around."

"Y-Yeah, totally." Randy stutters, not very convincing. Sidney glances between Bill and Randy, while Stu awkwardly looks anywhere but her, like a five-year-old who knows they're in trouble. Sidney looks her boyfriend dead in the eye with a slight glare, who stares back as he slightly moves his lips.

Eventually, Sidney lets out a disappointed sigh as she steps towards Y/N. "Hey, Y/N, can we..." She hesitates for a moment, catching the L/N's ear. "Can I borrow you for a minute?"

Y/N glances at the others before shrugging. "Uh, okay." He nods and the two walk to a nearby shelf while everyone gets back to their own devices.

Billy watches two go with a slight-piercing stare, then he guesses that's his cue to leave. He sighs before walking out the video store. "Millennium..." Stu mumbles as they both watch him leave, breaking the ice. "Good word, my man."

Randy turns to him, pointing at Billy. "You're telling me that's not a killer?"

Meanwhile, Sidney and Y/N walk to where the employee had left off before the confrontation earlier. "So, what's up?" He inquires as he gets back to his job.

"Yeah Y/N... Listen, I don't want to get overly personal, but...." Sidney glances around for a moment, biting her cheek as she tries to find the correct words. "When are you free tonight?"

"Well, I get off early thanks to the curfew." Y/N answers, trying to be patient when he notices the nervous look on Sidney's face. "Why?"

"I....." Sidney pauses again. "I wanted to talk about what happened... to your mother." She finally lets it out.

Y/N pauses and looks down for a moment, the painful thoughts coming back. Sidney expects for him to glare at her, angry for bringing it up. But instead, he just breathes and looks at her with a neutral expression. "I see...." He simply replies.

Sidney can only nod. Y/N thinks about it for a couple minutes. "Well, I think I can free up some time before Stu's party if that's what you want." Y/N suggests. "I mean, if you want gloomy talk, then we better be sure to party hardy after." He finishes with a smirk, getting his charisma back.

Sidney chuckles at him. "Sure." She agrees with a nod. She then turns around to leave, Y/N's gaze fallowing her out with a thoughtful smirk.

"Interesting..."

With the curfew now in effect, all the stores close up for the limited day. Signs are flipped, parents get their kids, and all cars filled with families head back to their home. The only exceptions to this are a couple grocery stores that are still open.

Deputy Dewey's car drives through the quiet street, making it's way next to the Woodsboro's police station, where one of these grocery stores are nearby. Everyone steps out and sees town's current state, watching the last of the parked cars kick into driving. "Sure is quiet." Dewey comments.

"Man, look at this place. It's The Town that Dreaded Sundown." Sidney references as they examine the town that you suspect could be abandoned.

"Yeah, I saw that movie." Dewey brings up, attempting casual talk. "It's about a killer in Texas, huh?"

"Hey Sid, just think. If they make a movie about you, who's gonna play you?" Tatum playfully wonders.

"Oh, I shudder to think." Sidney groans. What kind of actress could capture the mess that's called her life?

"I see you as a Meg Ryan, myself." Dewey names with a complimenting smile, entertaining the thought.

"Thanks Dewey, but with my luck, I guess Tori Spelling." Sidney says rhetorically. With that thought out of the way, her and Tatum head out, down the sidewalk while Dewey protectively watches them.

"I'm just gonna be a few minutes!" Dewey lets them know, gesturing towards the station. "You girls don't go too far!"

"Is Billy gonna be there tonight?" Sidney wonders as they walk inside the grocery store. The name makes Tatum scoff.

"He better not be, I told Stu to keep his mouth shut." Tatum mentions, speaking about Loomis as if he was a viper. "I think we can live without the endorphin rush for one night."

Sidney takes the cart, leaving the more experienced Tatum to grab the to-go party food, the most important factor of any event. "Billy's right, you know." Sidney asserts. "Whenever he touches me, I just can't relax."

"So you have a few intimacy issues as a result of your mother's untimely death. It's no big deal, Sid." Tatum enforces. "You'll thaw it out."

"Yeah, but he has been so patient with me." Sidney brings up as she opens the freezer with ice-cream. "You know, with all the sex stuff. How many guys would put up with a girl who's sexually anorexic?"

"Billy and his penis don't deserve you, all right?" Tatum states as they move on. Sidney mentally sighs, Billy's betrayed stare almost piercing her brain.

Tatum might be right, but Billy's not responsible for everything, right?
