Chapter 11

Maxis Johnson was currently sitting outside her family's house, having left the hospital about thirty minutes ago, after receiving John's text message and the photograph that had been attached.

Parking her car, Maxis took the keys out of the ignition and set them aside. She got out of her car, leaving her gun in the car, seeing as that her and John were here just for investigative purposes.

Slowly making her way up the walkway, Maxis took a deep breath as she neared the door. This was the first time that she had set foot in this house, at least since the night of Tyler's murder.

Pushing the door open, Maxis stepped inside and called out for her detective friend, John. Having not gotten a response from him, she headed towards the bathroom, where Tyler's body had been found, as she assumed that maybe John was in there and somehow didn't hear her.

Making her way to the bathroom, Maxis was greeted by a closed door. Opening the door, she saw that John wasn't anywhere to be found in the bathroom, which confused her.

Taking a few moments to look around the room, Maxis couldn't help but sense that something was a miss. She ended up pulling her phone out and looking at the picture that John had sent earlier.

Looking between the picture of the bathroom and the actual bathroom, Maxis immediately recognized what the issue was. The Ghostface mask that was in the picture was no longer on the floor.

"Alright, John!" Maxis huffed out in annoyance, "If this is your idea of a silly prank, it's not very funny!" She added, still sounding annoyed.

When she didn't get a response, Maxis began to look around the first floor of the house for John. Having not found him, she called out again, "It's not funny anymore, John!" She said, believing that John was pranking her. Not too long after calling out this time, Maxis heard a noise come from upstairs.

Turning her attention towards the staircase, Maxis began to climb up the steps. Upon reaching the top of the stairs, Maxis looked around the second floor's hallway.

Her attention was quickly drawn to the only room that had their door closed. That room belonged to her brother, Kyle. As she approached the door, she having found it odd that John was in her brother's room.

Maxis opened the door to Kyle's room. It took her a few seconds until she finally saw John. He had been seated at Kyle's desk, which was in the corner of the room, with his back towards her.

"John? What are you doing in my brother's room?" Maxis asked as she stood in the doorway.

Much like before, John didn't respond. The silent treatment was starting to get old to her. Maxis now entered the room, determined to get John's attention.

"Hey..." Maxis began to say as she walked over to the desk.

John still didn't respond to her, so Maxis grabbed a hold of the chair that John was seated in and spun it towards her. It was at that moment that she found out why John hadn't said anything. He was dead!

Maxis' eyes widened in horror and she let out a horrified gasp as she looked at John's dead body, having seen the multiple stab wounds in his abdomen and his mutilated neck.

"What the fuck?!" She finally muttered out in horror.

It didn't take long before Maxis was running out of Kyle's room and back down the steps. She was going to go to her car, so that way she could make a call to the station and report what she had just seen.

However, Maxis' plan came to a screeching halt when she got to the front door because she bumped into someone. Maxis glanced up and saw an awfully familiar person that sported a pair of 3-D style sunglasses on their face.

"Jaren?" Maxis muttered as she stared at the taller person that was blocking her path.

"Did you like the little exhibit I created for you?" He asked as he looked down at her, while his lips curled into a smirk.

"Y... You did this?" Maxis asked, referring to all of the murders and attacks that have occurred recently.

Jaren nodded, his smirk remaining plastered on his face, "You bet I did."

There was a moment where Maxis considered trying to run past Jaren and to her car, however she decided against it, as she saw that he was holding the gun that she left in her car. So, she opted to use her next plan, which involved trying to run away from Jaren and head back upstairs, because she kept a different pistol in her nightstand.

Maxis braced herself and quickly backed away from Jaren before heading towards the staircase. She was soon brought to another screeching halt, however, because a bullet went whizzing past her face.

"Next time, I won't miss~" Jaren's voice could be heard coming from her left.

Slowly turning around, Maxis faced Jaren with a glare She watched as he began motioning with her gun.

"Let's take a walk." Jaren said, pointing the gun in the direction of the nearby kitchen.

Left with no other choice, Maxis would make her way towards the kitchen with Jaren behind her. Soon after they entered the kitchen, Maxis was cornered against the kitchen counter and Jaren stopped beside the pantry closet door.

"Don't look so angry, Maxis." Jaren said with a smirk still on his face.

Maxis continued to glare at Jaren, as she asked him, "So, Jaren, what's the plan? You kill me in my own home and then what?"

"Well, once I'm done with you, i plan on finishing off Shannon and her cousin, Brian." Jaren said.

Maxis nodded but remained rather unimpressed by this plan of Jaren's, "And then what? Because right now your plan sounds like shit." She said before adding, "Do you even have a motive or is this all bullshit?"

Jaren chuckled and smirked, "Of course i have a motive." He said, "Remember Scotty and Marcel?" He added.

"Yes, I remember Marcel and Scotty, I'm not stupid." Maxis stated, although she didn't quite understand why those two were being brought up.

Jaren noded, "They were my best friends..." He said as a pained expression. Over took hos face, "You and that fucking red headed bitch took them away from me!" He was now shouting as the memories of the Scotty and Marcel's flooded his mind.

"You did all of this just to avenge some stupid guys who tried to me and Shannon?!" Maxis asked, "You killed and attacked my oldest brother and my friends just to get your stupid fucking revenge?!?"

Jaren's pain soon turned into a chuckle, "Not all by myself." He said, watching Maxis' face fill with light confusion, "even though it feels like I did all the work, there was a second person and they were a big help."

Maxis watched as Jaren stood there smugly. It's like he was waiting for something to happen or someone to show up. She also watched as the smugness on Jaren's face turned to confusion and slight annoyance.

"I said, there was a second person and they were a big help!" Jaren repeated, louder than the first time.

At that moment, the pantry door that Jaren was standing beside flew open and someone wearing a Ghostface costume jumped out from there. Ghostface immediately plunged the blade of their knife into Jaren's chest.

After being startled by the sudden entrance of Ghostface, Maxis was shocked by what appeared to be a sudden betrayal, as she watched this Ghostface stab Jaren in the chest. She wasn't the only one shocked, however, as Jaren was also in a state of disbelief as his Ghostface partner just stabbed him.

"You stupid motherfucker..." Jaren gritted his teeth through the pain and tried to raise the gun up to shoot them.

Ghostface easily knocked the gun out of Jaren's hand while also twisting their knife, which was still buried inside his chest. Jaren would let out a pained yelp as the blade continued to be twisted and then was pulled out. Ghostface didn't stop there though as they began to stab Jaren's side/abdomen multiple times. After Jaren was dead, Ghostface let the body fall to the ground, with a thud and also letting the body fall on top of the gun that had been knocked ouy of Jaren's hand moments before.

Maxis remained frozen in the kitchen. She was trying to comprehend what she had just witnessed. She wouldn't get that much more time to do so, however, because she watched as Ghostface quickly whipped their head over in her direction.

"Oh fuck..." Maxis sputtered out and ran towards the kitchen doorway.

Letting her legs lead the way, Maxis ran up the stairs and was heading to her bedroom to get the gun that she wanted to earlier. She threw open her door and raced to the nightstand. She muttered curses under her breath as she fumbled with her keychain, since it was a drawer with a lock on it.

As Maxis frantically searched for the correct key, she heard the sound of Ghostface dragging their knife along the railing of the staircase and hallway. That sound was getting louder as they got closer to her room. After a few seconds, Maxis found the correct key and opened the nightstand drawer. Retrieving her pistol, she quickly turned around and fired a shot.

The bullet pierced through the forehead of the white, plastic, ghost-like mask and Ghostface was soon down on the ground. Heaving a couple of heavy and deep breaths, Maxis slowly approached the body. She kept her gun raised and kicked their knife away before grabbing a hold of the chin/mouth of the Ghostface mask and lifting it off of the person's face. Maxis felt her heart shatter when the identity of this Ghostface was revealed.

It was her brother, Kyle...
