Reyna Copulas

Once Kellin and Grayson got out, Maren and Ozzy knocked on my window. Annoyed, I roll it down halfway. Maren looks totally freaked out and Ozzy looks 100% guilty. "I'm sorry about everything," Mare apologizes.

"Aren't we all?" I bite, bitterness filling my tone. I sigh and clear the negativity. "I'm sorry, too, okay? We can worry about this stupid stuff later. We've been friends since we were kids and I should've taken into consideration how I was treating you."

"Reyna, you don't need to apologize for anything," Maren states, chewing on her thumbnail because she's nervous.

 "Well, I did."

"I'm sorry, too," Ozzy chimes in. "I don't know you awfully well but I feel just as bad." Shrugging, I smile. "Guys don't worry about it. Go make sure Kellin doesn't get Grayson is in too much trouble while I get my act together."

Maren grins, happy that I've gotten over what she and her boyfriend did for the most part. "Alright. And if we don't make it out –"

 "Stop," I demand.

"- I'll see you on the other side," Maren finishes anyways. "We aren't related through blood but we're still sisters. Don't forget that."

"How could I ever?" I question. "Thanks for sticking with me through all of these years."

"Back at you."

And with a nod from Ozzy and a wave from Maren, they vanish into a crowd of people who also enter Adriano's house.

Now, I'm finally alone.

Collecting my thoughts was total bullshit, by the way. I just don't like parties. I never did and I don't think I ever will – not after all this crap that's happened. In a window of At Adriano's house, I see a couple making out. Instead, of being some random people I've never met, it's Oz and Mare. Quaintly, I laugh to myself and remember the last time I was in this scenario.

"Ew, more make out couples," I grouch, snatching a potato chip. "Do they like to slobber all over their skin? They're like animals."

But now I smile. The weirdest things have changed throughout all this killing stuff, but I never thought they would even change my opinion on this. Now, I'm happy for the make-out couple who slobber over themselves. We don't know when our life clock expires, so it's important to live life every second you have one. You have to forgive your friends when you don't want to, trust people in your life you normally wouldn't, and accept things about yourself that you would've usually repressed.

I reach under my chair until my hand closes around something metallic, cool, and smooth. I pull it out and tap it in my hand. "I know what you can do," I say to the object. "Let's hope if the time comes to it, you can do it again."

And with that, I get out and put the crowbar underneath my car. It's out of sight to anyone not looking for it, but easily reachable from the outside. That way, I don't have to open the door and do all this complicated stuff if I'm in a hurry – which I hope I won't be.

Behind me, a black car rolls in and parks next to my vehicle: Enzo.

And to my surprise, Makai gets out of the passenger seat. Those two driving together is something I never thought I'd see.

I'm about to greet them when all three of our phones go off simultaneously. Instantly, I dive into my pocket. Makai searches for his phone in Enzo's car because I guess he dropped it on the seat. Enzo groans and checks out the message.

Unknown: Welcome to the party, final gals and girls. You've reached the end– you deserve a reward. How about you enjoy yourself at the party? I promise I won't do anything...for a little while.

"Oh, my God," Enzo sighs, grabbing at his hair in frustration and tugging it straight. "I thought all of this was terrible already...but now they've started a group chat? I thought it couldn't get any worse..."

Makai laughs at Enzo's usual angst. I don't know what happened between the two while I was with Kellin, but I'm glad it took place. There's definitely still tension between the two, but now it isn't stifling and volatile. "Seriously. If they did this earlier I would've broken down way faster."

"I'd make a funny joke to go along..." I pitch in. "...but that's not my forte."

Makai and Enzo laugh. My brother slaps my shoulder. "That was a good one."

"Yeah, you're catching up," Enzo congratulates my unintentional witticism. "Now let me give you a rundown on what we've got. I'm carrying my knife, my gun is in the car, and Makai has Mase."

"Mase?" I dubiously inquire him.

"What? It's portable, concealable, and classy," he defends.

"Alright, well Grayson has a hidden gun, Maren and Ozzy have a knife, and Kellin has a pocketknife," I dish out. "Oh, I'm keeping my crowbar right under the car."

"Wow," Makai says in a deep exhale. "This is real. It's happening."

"Well, not yet..." Enzo counters. "Not technically."

"We ready to go in?" I inquire. Makai's eyes widen and he looks to the ground. Enzoraises a brow and his bottom lip lowers quizzically. "You know what? I don't know why I asked. Let's go."

"Wait, no plan?" Enzo asks, stopping Makai and me when we start to walk in.

"Um, don't die?" I suggest.

"Okay, here's what's going to happen," Enzo starts. "Everyone who is already inside and you, Makai, will enjoy the party and have a good time..."

"Why not you two?" Makai wonders why he's the odd man out.

"Reyna doesn't like parties, and I don't like people, so we'll scope the place out. Sound good?"

Makai shrugs, and I can tell he's trying to act like he's not excited to get inside. "I mean...if I have to go party, I will. You know – take one for the team."

"How noble," I joke. "And Makai..."

"Yeah?" he asks.

I hug him tightly, cherishing the feel of my last family member. "Thanks for being my brother."

"Believe me, if I could reverse it, I would," he grumbles and laughs. But then he gets serious. "I love you. I think I always knew we were connected somehow."

"Love you, too," I whisper, emotions stirring up inside me. What if this is the last time I hold my brother? What if I lose the last member of my family tonight?

We break apart and Makai puts a hand on one of Enzo's broad shoulders. "Take care of her...kid."

"You don't have to worry about that, buddy," he assures. "Have a drink or ten for me."

"Don't have to tell me twice," Makai laughs as he enters the house.

"Reyna," Enzo very seriously calls to attention. "Remember what you said about me staying with you after all this? No matter what happens?"

Cotton fills my mouth – is he backing out of the promise? Will he abandon me after tonight?

"Yeah?" I barely manage, worried about how attached to him I've become.

"I need you to make me the same promise. No matter what happens after tonight, you'll stay with me."

"Of course," I brush off with nervous laughter.

"No, I'm serious," he gravely continues. His voice is urgent, and his almost-glowing amber eyes ignite with intensity. "Promise me."

I place a hand on the side of his face. "I promise."

Those two words should've made all of his qualms go away, yet he stays stiff and nervous. He's almost scared. And if Enzo is scared, then we're all doomed. But I act like I don't notice his discomfort for his sake. Whatever he's worried about can't be that bad, can it?

"So shall we?" I inquire.

"We shall," he decides. "After you."

I take a gulp and stare at the house: two stories, clouded with smoke from drugs, full of neon solo cups, moving with dancing boys and girls, vibrating with heavy music, and flashing my eyes with multiple coloured lights. This isn't too different from Destiny Prior'sparty. In fact, it's very much alike.

But instead of a party marking the beginning of a killing spree, this one marks the end. The end of, not just the deaths, but the killers themselves.

 I'm ready.
