I got to 4512 right before Enzo, who got here right before Makai, who got here right before Maren. Already, SolarisPsychos.com had the scoop on the battle between Reyna and Kellin. This confirms that the killer is the one uploading the information. But how did that monster manage to turn them against each other?
The very odd trio of Kellin, Reyna, and Adriano, come out of the house. According to the blog, Kellin was the attacker and Reyna was the defender. I see it in the way Kellin can't even look at Reyna without shame, and how Reyna is the one with bruises who cradles her left arm.
She sees me and smiles. "Ozzy, hey."
"Hey, what's going on with your arm?"
"I might need another ride to the hospital. God, I hate that place," she sighs, shaking her head.
"Me too, little sister," Makai butts in, coming around and slinging an arm around Rey's shoulders. "And yes, Ozzy, I do mean little sister quite literally."
I look to Reyna for a response. "Yeah, it's true. And it's also a really long story."
Maren approaches, panic in her eyes. "What happened?" she inquires, hair a mess and eyes sleepy.
I open the blog and hand her my phone. "Feast your eyes."
"Good God..." she whispers as she reads, seafoam eyes trailing up and down the screen.
I don't know how nobody else has realized it, but Maren's actually pretty cool...and pretty.
Handing me my phone, she asks her best friend if she's okay.
With her good arm, Reyna waves off our concerns. "I'm fine. But I do think I fractured my arm or something." Reyna's grey eyes fall on Enzo, who talks to Adriano and Kellin. A mix of relief and scepticism flood her expression. "Be right back..."
Enzo breaks apart from Kellin and Rio when I notice he's wearing the outfit he wore during the lockdown. Reyna apologizes for not letting him talk earlier, whatever that means, and she thanks him for showing up. They get all lovey-dovey and he says he'd have to be dead not to be with her, blah, blah, blah.
"They're almost too perfect together," Maren mutters beside me as Makai departs to reunite with his PIP – partner in partying.
"No kidding. Why don't they just get married already, right?" I joke, watching Maren'sface light up with laughter.
"So I guess you're a part of the group now?" she asks, sizing me up with playful ambitions. Shrugging, I look around. "Yeah, I guess so." "Good," Mare approves. We watch as Reyna explains the scenario to Enzo. She holds his sides and absentmindedly rubs her thumb along with his shirt, where she finds something she didn't expect: a hole.
"What's this?" she asks, curious and eager to talk about something else.
"Huh?" he looks down and his eyes widen with shock. "Oh! Um..."
"It almost looks like a bullet went through," she suspiciously explains.
"Work," is his dull response.
"Oh, my God. Are you okay?" Reyna inquires. Using her light, she lifts his shirt up a bit to examine his wound. Oddly enough, it's healed.
"Yeah, it was just some crack house whore trying to 'raise weeds, not suspicion.' It was no a big deal," he says with a shrug.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
Enzo shrugs with ease. "Your mom just died and I was fine." Reyna sighs and looks up at him, eyes hopeful for something. "Reyna," he soothes, cupping the side of her face and skimming her cheek with his thumb. "It's nothing. You're hurt and stressed out. But we're both fine. We're all fine," he assures all of us. "Come on, I'll take you to the hospital."
"You know he's...um..." Maren tries to finish her sentence without being rude.
"A literal psychopath? Yeah, I read it on that blog under the character profiles, but I didn't need that to tell me this guy's crazy," I explain, remembering when I first met him.
"He's off, for sure," she agrees, watching as he and Reyna embrace each other, almost frozen in a bubble of calm in the midst of frenzied chaos. "But I do have to admit, he's different with her."
"You think he actually likes her?" I dubiously question.
"I really, really, really want to say no," Maren reluctantly states. "But yeah. I think he really does like her. And I think she really likes him."
"Then why does she look so untrusting?" I ask, nodding at the couple. They've parted and Enzo looks up to nod at Makai, who grudgingly grins at Enzo. I guess Makai is grateful that his sister has found someone to confide in, even if it is the man who tortured him. But while Enzo looks away from his more-than-a-girlfriend, she looks up at him with massive amounts of cynicism. There's something about him that she doesn't understand.
"That seems to be the question," Maren thoughtfully acknowledges. "But at least tonight is over." A Triple-A vehicle rolls up and parks behind Kellin's dark blue car. "It could've gone a lot worse."
"A whole lot worse," I agree.
