Sixteen

Days have passed and me and Amaris have been spending quality time with Amira. We don't want to be some paranoid sisters just because she had a breakdown at the mall few days ago so we were trying hard to appear and act natural as we can be.

Luckily, Amira has been slowly recuperating from her recent dilemma. According to her, she will start to accept the fact that she is going to be a mom soon.

With her attitude, I believe that she can surpass it all. It was a relief to hear that from her.

Amira also apologized to me with the way she acted when she found out about me and Jacob. She was jealous of the relationship we had that he wanted us to be public.

Wanted. Past tense.

I just smiled at her and then I told her the truth that me and Jacob are never going to get back together. She was forlorn and blamed herself but I reassured her that it isn't her fault. That it was also my choice.

Amira wasn't convinced but she stared at me with her quizzical look.

Looking at her, I couldn't help remembering our childhood days. Back when we weren't thinking of everything else and just enjoying ourselves playing around, caring about nothing else.

"Hoy, kayo. Ano yang sinesenti nyo dyan? Halika na at nagugutom na ako." Amaris said when she went to Amira's room.

"Yes, Mom!" Amira called out and we giggled. She stood up and held my hand before looking at me. "Let's go?"

I nodded and we headed downstairs to have our lunch. When we got there, the savory aroma of beefsteak immediately reached our nostrils.

"Saraaap! Amoy pa lang! Mukhang mapapadami kain ko nito ha!" Amira squealed and clapped her hands before she sat down on her usual place beside mine.

I helped her place rice on her plate and she grinned at me. I could feel Amaris' stares at us so I met her eyes.

"Tara na, sis. Kain na tayo." I said and she nodded. She, too, sat down and get her own rice and serving of steak.

During lunch time, Amira was so full of life. She was blabbering about her plans for her child which we occasionally engaged ourselves is. Obviously, she's excited to see her little one and so are we.

When we were finished, I volunteered to clear and wash the dishes while Amira returned to her room. She complained about not being able to take a bath first before eating because she feels icky already.

As I washed the plates, I heard Amaris' phone rang. I noticed that it was placed on top of the table.

It kept ringing and I was about to get it to give it to her when Amaris came into the dining area with a sheepish smile on her face. She immediately got ahold of her cellphone and left off to the living room to answer the call.

Shrugging, I continued washing the glasses and utensils. I know I shouldn't be meddling into Amaris' business but my instincts tell me that she is hiding something else from us.

"– What the! Stop it, Zelstra!" I heard Amaris' muffled laughter which stopped me in my tracks.

Zelstra? Is it the same Jacob Zelstra that I know?

I could feel a wave of emotions came to my system. Anger, sadness, frustration and eagerness all came running back to me. Most especially, pain.

I didn't notice that I was silently crying when I felt my cheeks got wet.

What's going on?

Amaris and Jacob?

Kailan pa?

Kailan pa nila ako niloloko?
