Epilogue
I never thought I will feel this happy in this lifetime. I remembered how I doubted his love towards me.
What we have was something I never expected to happen.
Its as if I am in a different world. A world where happy endings exist.
After our mom's tragic death to leukemia and Dad remarried, I barely believe in ever afters.
I also was a witness to Amira's painful heartache as she raised Dwight on her own for almost six years now. Eric, still, cannot man up and talk to her about it. He's just giving the money to me and even if I persuade him to talk to my sister, he is still a coward to do so. According to him, he is still finding ways to brought it up to his parents.
Such an asshole.
I was also there when Amaris had her heartache with my fiance's older brother. I saw how she let it all out to us and vent her emotions.
That's why being this happy is still surreal to me. It's like, do I really deserve this?
I stared at the engagement ring which he gave more than six months ago. I can't help but to feel a rush of excitement and glee remembering how he presented it to me.
He was flushed with nervousness and I was more than astonished at his unexpected proposal. He made the move after he dropped me off at our house.
It was a puzzle that needed to be solved. At the back of the portrait was a riddle. I literally was confused with it until the next day, Amira handed a bouquet of red roses to me with a note stating another riddle.
Amaris also popped on my messenger and asked me a puzzling question.
As I was a curious cat, I decided to put them all together when he asked me to meet up at one of our favorite hang-outs near our office.
Yup. Jacob works around the company where I was at. Only five buildings away from mine.
When I got there, I didn't expect that he would drop the bomb at me. As we sat down, we began enjoying the food.
Then came dessert. For a moment, I couldn't comprehend what was going on but when the singer automatically sang our favorite song, You're Still The One by Shania Twain, the waiter came in with a cake where the words were written.
It was Jacob who blurt out the question I have been longing to hear, "I know this is too early but I couldn't wait seeing your face first thing in the morning and be the one whom I will come home to every night. Before I totally chickened out, let me ask you this: Will you marry me, Amara?"
I was speechless and tears of joy were flowing down my cheeks. I nodded and stuttered a 'yes'. He happily wore the ring into my left finger and kissed me ever so passionately.
The restaurant's crew and people who were there greeted us and I couldn't help but blush both in embarrassment and with joy.
We ate and from there, everything was so perfect. We became inseparable.
We decided to have a long engagement and get married after two years. He revealed to me that his dad wanted him to take over their business in America and he asked me to come with him.
He wanted to support me but I wanted to the same to. We agreed to finish our contract at our companies first before we get to migrate in America and start in their company.
I also had the chance to meet his parents. I was glad that they are supportive of him and of us.
His mom, Tita Jessa, was the best. She was such a cool mom and his dad was the greatest. He has such a great sense of humor which is far from his intimidating aura.
Their family is a breath of fresh air. Unlike me, Jacob only has one sibling. His older brother.
Now that we have finished the contract, I can't wait until we boarded our flight to Massachusetts and start a new life there.
I smiled when Jacob appeared in front of me. He was at the restroom earlier and on his hand is a coffee from one of the famous Cafes in the world.
Being Jacob, he pecked me on the cheek and sat beside me.
"Are you happy, Amara?" He asked and held my hand with his free hand.
"Yes, I am." I said and sipped on my coffee.
"I love you." He said and my heart fluttered.
"I love you too." I answered back.
"Passengers of Voyager Airlines 8GZ, boarding gates are now open. Please prepare you boarding tickets and passport to be presented at Gate 7." Announcement boomed at the speakers declaring our flight.
Together, we finished our coffee, threw it in the trash bin and started grabbing our hand carry bags.
Indeed, my love story wasn't ideal at the beginning.
My innocence was scorned when people judged me back in the days when we were friends. People concluded and I was affected.
But in the end, it made me realize one thing: people will always have something to say at you, it's up to you if you will be affected with it or you will use it to better yourself.
At this very moment, I know the truth and what my heart wants.
That is: a future with him and with people who really matters.
