Chapter #2

"What!" said Scorchkit, a small yelp escaping his jaws.

Ambersplash's eyes glazed over in fear as she looked to Scorchkit, short breathes coming out as she gazed at him with panic flaring in her eyes.

"Scorchkit, take the herbs to my den and stay there, this is nothing you need to be involved in"

Scorchkit obeyed and quickly ran to the medicine den where he dropped the herbs and started putting them into the dirt shelves at random. 'Ambersplash can organize them later' he thought.  He stayed in the medicine den like Ambersplash had asked, but couldn't help but hear the yelling of the elder Warriors.

'A little eavesdrop wouldn't do anything, it couldn't hurt anyone' thought Scorchkit, putting his ears near the cave entrance.

"Owlstar we must do something!" yelled Violetsong frantically,"The two of them can't take on a full grown fox by themselves. Warriors yowled in agreement while Rabbitheart tried to quite them all.

"Calm down Violetsong," said Rabbitheart soothingly, his words calming, "They are both very resourceful warriors, and can fight for just a while longer. But Violetsong is right Owlstar, they can not fight a fox alone, we must send backup to drive the fox out of our territory to prevent any further problems." Finished Rabbitheart firmly, turning to look at Owlstar.

'I am so proud to be his kin, he's such a strong Warrior!' Scorchkit then puffed his chest out a little in pride.

Owlstar stepped up to speak to the crowd of warriors gathered in the clearing, all staring at their leader with worry. But even under preasure, Owlstar did not seem rattled. She planted her feet and dug her paws into the soft earth.
"I want you to send Hazelfur, Brackennose, Harepaw, Mapleshine, Nightwhisper, Violetsong and Redpelt on a battle patrol to help Splashmoon and Pinewhisker." Said Owlstar,"Rabbitheart, I want you and Mistpaw to lead the patrol to the fox."

The muscular deputy nodded to his leader firmly and gestured for the small silver apprentice to follow as the patrol dashed out of camp.

'I've got to watch this battle!' thought Scorchkit, his feet already moving towards the camp entrance.

"And just where do you think your going?"

Scorchkit head swerved behind him to see the figure whom had caught him.

Rainkit stepped forward, leaning in closer to her brother. "I asked you a question Scorchkit. Where. Are. You. GOING!"

Scorchkit shuffled his paws nervously. "No where important." He replied.

"Oh, so you won't have any problem telling me where you were planning to go then, will you?" Said Rainkit with a smirk.

"Look! I don't anserw to you mouse - brain! And if you were that intrested in where I was going, you would be following me instead of wasting time talking!"

With that last retort, Scorchkit took of after the patrol, Rainkit being a close second. The patrol moved very fast through the thick undergrowth as it followed the scent trail of the fox. Soon a bright orange figure came in to view, paws flashing with fury as Splashmoon struggled to use her last bits of strength to keep herself alive. Scorchkit watched as the patrol separated into two and split into the bushes, staying as silent as a mouse. All suddenly became quiet until an earsplitting shtiek split the air, interuppting the silence of the air.

"ThunderClan! Attack!!" Yelled Rabbitheart, running into battle, his patrol closely behind.

The patrol ran at the fox, attacking from different angles which each strike. Paws flashed, fur flew, teeth shimmered, claws slashed as the battle raged on. Blood shimmered as the sunlight glinted on the fresh crimson liquid splattered all over the quiet meadow. Scorchkit had then realized that in the patrol's abcence, more foxes had arrived to the battle, as more cats departed from the first one to another.

Rabbitheart's paws flashed as he gripped a fox's scruff and bit down hard, calling of at first shriek. The fox howled in pain as Rabbitheart raked his paws across the fox's chest in the process of falling. In the opposite corner, Splashmoon and Mistpaw fought symmetrically slashing their paws at a fox, Scorchkit admired the strong bond between mentor and apprentice. While Scorchkit focused in on Mistpaw and Splashmoon, a howl sounded from the other side of the battlefield. The moment he glanced over a large fox bowled over Pinewhisker, pinning him to the ground in a spasm of fury, while Rabbitheart scattered away, not bothering to look behind him or help Pinewhisker. Though Pinewhisker pushed of the young cub with ease, Scorchkit found this series of events quite odd.

'That's odd,' thought Scorchkit, 'I wonder what Rabbitheart's so afraid of?'

Only moents later, though seeming strong, ThunderClan was losing. The Clan was losing strength, blood, and hope. Almost half the clan was injured, and Ambersplash was going to be busy for moons.

"ThunderClan! Attack!"

Owlstar and the Patrol ran in, separating to different sections of the battlefield. Scorchkit watched as the leader slashed the fox on the muzzle, causing it to howl in pain.

"Take that you idiotic piece of fox-dung! And don't come back!"

Though old, the leader moved with such grace and speed, he could see why she was such a strong leader. Suddenly, the ThunderClan leader tripped over a root, causing her to fall right under the fox.

"Oh no! Owlsta-!" Yelped Rainkit, standing up from her stalking spot. Paws quickly covered her mouth as Rainkit struggled to speak, her muffled voice coming out as misunderstood yelps.

"Shut up you ignorant furball! Do you want us to be caught?" said Scorchkit, removing his paws from Rainkit's mouth.

"By us I do hope you mean you, I was only following you, which automatically erases me from the picture." Finished Rainkit with a smirk.

Scorchkit stood stunned by his sister's response, expecting at least the slightest bit of sympathy for wanting to see an epic battle.

"Just watch the battle, mousebrain."

The fox was about to perform the killing bite on Owlstar before Harepaw jumped on to the fox's back, biting down as hard as he could, then clamping his paws down on the fox's eyes and pulling back in a long, painful scrape. The fox howled in pain, taking its focus off of Owlstar, and slashing around blindly as blood poured into his eyes. Scorchkit looked over at Pinewhisker who was glaring at the fox who had attacked Owlstar. He made a angry face a clenched his teeth as he said something that sounded somewhat like "dang it!".

The warriors entered the camp, blood battered, scar ridden, and not a single cat had a spot on their bodies not drenched in fox blood. Scorchkit's mind was running faster than a Warrior running at full speed. Why would Pinewhisker be dissapointed that the fox missed Owlstar? Why did Rabbitheart run away from Pinewhisker? Scorchkit decided to ponder over his thoughts later and get some rest after enduring the unseen trudge back home.
