My chest aches with the thought of breaking the news to Clark. I've never cheated on anybody before and my stomach was churning with guilt. Hands shook with every footstep in the hall and my eyes stayed trained on the door, waiting for his knock.

Clark had promised me that he'd be over as soon as he could, given the late hour I had called, I expected him to be late, but not to arrive two hours after.

When Clark answered his phone, I had to stop myself from telling him right then and there. Now, as I waited for him, my heart beat loudly in my chest, and I tried to watch TV to calm my nerves, but what I saw did precisely the opposite.

Somebody had found my address, and the paparazzi had taken video of Superman arriving on my balcony. They even had the footage of him leaving hours later and as the same nasal sounding woman from 'E! News' began to speak about it. There was a knock on my door.

Startled, I muted and pressed last on my remote, and a movie popped onscreen. I shook out my hands and walked over, plastering a smile on, I swung the door open, my fingers still clenched tightly around the remote.

"Hey, Annie," Clark smiled brightly at me.

"Hey," I stepped aside and let him in.

"Sorry, I'm arriving later than I had said-,"

"It's ok," I cut him off without meaning to, "Um, do you want anything to drink? Water?"

Clark studied me for a moment. His eyebrow quirked up, "Annie, why did you call me so late? Is everything alright?"

"I'm so sorry! I know we've been on a few dates, and I've always liked you, I have!" I blurted, and by the look on Clark's face, he was confused.

"Annie, what are you talking about?" He asked taking a few steps towards me.

"No," I held out my hand to stop him,"I-I cheated on you,"

The tv flipped back to the segment on 'E!News' and Clark's blue eyes watched it. His jaw was tight and I couldn't look at him anymore.

"I slept with Superman,"

It came out so loud that it echoed in the quiet room. I oddly felt lighter and stared down at my sock-clad feet. The air was thick with anticipation while I waited to hear what he had to say. Hesitantly, I brought my eyes up to meet his, but they were different.

"Clark, I'm so sorry,"

Where a scowl should have been was only raised eyebrows as he laughed taken entirely aback I stared at him, anger bubbling up. I went to chastise him for laughing at me, but something baffling happened and I was lost for words.

Clark had taken his glasses off and his eyes shined brighter. His usually slumped shoulders and poor posture straightened, and his chin was held higher. In an instant Clark was Superman.

"What the fuck?!"

"Annie, calm down. You didn't cheat on me," He spoke walking towards me. Even his walk was different.

"Wait. Wait. You're Superman? Superman is Clark Kent?" I balked as he stood in front of me his hulking figure almost intimidating in his clothes, I wasn't used to seeing Superman in such casual clothing.

"Yes,"

I leaned forward and studied his face.

"I don't understand, you look different, but you don't?"

Clark put his glasses back on and his eyes dulled, and so did the sharpness of his facial features.

"Your glasses?"

"They were made to dull the brightness of my eyes and soften my features, I am Clark Kent, and I am Superman. To help hide my identity I took on the persona of Clark, that is the nerd, awkward, clumsy guy everyone's so used to, to the next level. I had to make it the last possible identity anyone would associate me with," Clark explained.

I nodded, "So Superman flirting with me was you?"

"Yes,"

"And I thought I cheated on you with him, but it was you?"

"That is correct," He gave me a puzzled look, "How are you still confused about this?"

"I'm not that confused, I don't think....just shocked. Wait, does this mean I can't go to the Benefit with you?"

Clark smiled and sat down on the couch patting the cushion next to him. I obliged, my mind was overflowing with questions and I could tell he was ready to answer them.

He had explained so much in hours and I knew all I needed to know about Clark. He arrived in a spaceship after his home world was destroyed. Zod and his people who attacked Metropolis two years ago had come from the phantom zone and wanted to cultivate our world into Krypton. I never knew much about why they had attacked and I was glad we had Clark to stop them because we all would have surely died.

He explained that he and Lois had broken up because she became too reliant on Superman to save her. Clark said it became more of a job than a relationship.

He explained as much as he could about his home world and how the Earths sun gives him his powers. That part confused me a bit, but as I yawned, he decided it was time to go to bed. Clark had stayed with me, my body wrapped snuggly in his arms, and I had felt a calming flourish flit in my chest, and I knew that falling in love with him wasn't going to be hard, sharing him with the rest of the world would be.

Clark sat on the couch flipping through channels while I made coffee.

"Wait, do you have like freeze breath?"

"I'm not Frozone from 'The Incredibles', Annie," He responded throwing an amused look over his shoulder at me.

"Wow, that was very snarky," I chuckled handing him a mug, "be careful, it's hot..." Clark had already taken a swig of the freshly brewed coffee and raised an eyebrow, "Never mind,"

"So, I really can't go to the Benefit?" I had asked last night but never got my answer.

"No, it's best not to come as my date. You've been linked to Superman, and if you show up as Clark Kent's date then people might put two and two together,"

I listened to him speak and studied his face. It was beyond breathtaking, and a thought struck me.

"I'm surprised nobody else has. You'd think a pair of glasses wouldn't be so transformative," I picked up his glasses and placed them on my face.

My head immediately felt light, and a piercing ringing exploded behind my eyes, Clark tore them off my face, and I had squeezed my eyes shut in discomfort.

"Are you ok?" Clark asked.

"Holy hell, what was that?" My palm pressed to my temple above my eyebrow, and I opened my eyes slowly.

"Like I said these glasses are meant to distort my image, they've been enchanted,"

"Enchanted? Like Magic? Magic is real?"

"If I'm real how can magic not be real?"

"Fair point, so to anyone who puts your glasses on it's like they're so thick and heavily medicated and that helps with not figuring out who you are. It's just one more small detail to your cover,"

My eyes had adjusted, and I felt better after I sipped on my coffee. After a moment I turned to Clark who was smiling at me.

"What?"

He leaned in and captured my lips in a quick kiss. My eyes fluttered open when he pulled away, and he still had the same look on his face. It was an emotion I couldn't yet place.

"I'm just glad I decided to sit down at your table at the coffee shop. I always thought you were beautiful,"

"You're making me blush," I purred.

"Hmm," he leaned close, his voice low as his lips grazed my cheek, "That's not all I can make you do,"

Clark had left about twenty minutes ago, and while my brain still hadn't processed the fact that Clark Kent and Superman were the same people, the rest of the world had no problem labeling me like Superman's girlfriend.

I flipped through channels trying to catch 'Ellen' before it went off, but even the hilarious comedian with stellar dance moves was talking about it. Annoyed with all the press and the emails and the dozen of voicemails and missed calls from media personnel- I decided a jog was a great way to clear my head.

With my running shoes laced, my phone secured on my arm band around a light sweater over leggings, I prepared for my workout. Placing my earbuds in I opened my door relieved to find no paparazzi- I'd have to thank my door man- but as I stepped out my foot slipped on a piece of paper by my door.

It was a simple envelope with my name written across the front in beautiful handwriting. Inside, was the last thing I had expected.

It was a formal invite to the Benefit held at Mr. Luthor's house tonight. I was an "honored guest," and I couldn't help, but wonder what other special treatment my new found "fame" would get me.
