Wormholes

Wormholes

I've written quite a bit about this subject, but it's very important to understanding how the universe actually works.

As it turns out, most scientists are concerned about Schwarzschild wormholes, which are also known as Einstein-Rosen bridges. The reason this type of wormhole is popular is because it uses a vacuum solution to Einstein's field equations to describe a passageway through widely separated locations in space. If you look at a diagram of a Schwarzschild wormhole, it resembles a space around a black hole, which would require a singularity. However, the singularity would not constrict movement through it. This is why some astronomers believe that a black hole is a passage between two distant locations in space or a passage to another universe. Basically, this solution to Einstein's field equations require a black hole connection to a white hole, which is the opposite of a black hole, and which some cosmologists say that it's a singularity similar to the one that formed the Big Bang.

Unfortunately, this type of wormhole is considered to be unstable and if any type of material tries to go through it, the wormhole would collapse. Ouch!

What's needed for faster than light travel would be a traversable wormhole. This is also known a Lorentzian traversable wormhole, and it would allow passage in both directions (you would be able to return from where you came) from one part of the universe to another. This type of wormhole would allow time travel with the stipulation that you could not travel back in time any sooner than when the wormhole was created. This would mean that you could travel to a distant location quickly and then return to the same time you left.

The question is: how might such a wormhole be created? This is a really interesting question. Think about what a wormhole is. It's space distorted as badly as if it were near a black hole, which takes an unimaginable amount of gravity to form. The intense gravity is needed to distort space and literally bend the crap out of it. That's not going to be easy.
One theory proposes that you need some sort of exotic matter, essentially negative matter, which is only theoretical. That's going to take time to not only understand exotic matter but also to create it in sufficient amount to form a wormhole.

Some have proposed that the exotic matter isn't necessary. However, most of these solutions require negative mass cosmic strings to produce them. These could have been produced at the time of the Big Bang and could still exist. However, some scientists believe that these wormholes are incredibly small.
So, maybe the only way to create a wormhole is to find a way to create exotic matter, matter that has negative effect and can push the sides of the wormhole open. Don't know what kind of stuff would do that. Sounds interesting!

Thanks for reading.
