Multiverse Expansion Theory
Multiverse Expansion Theory
As you must know by now, the universe is expanding at an accelerating rate. The current theory for this phenomenon is that dark energy is causing it. Dark energy is the name given to an undiscovered new type of energy that is negative and part of the space-time continuum. The problem with this theory is that there is no proof that dark energy exists.
String theory is called upon to save the day, but strings are only theoretical without proof. The other more interesting idea is called the multiverse expansion theory.
Some astronomers believe that the only explanation for the rapid expansion of our universe is that we are part of a multiverse, an infinite number of universes. There are two flavors of this idea, but the one that involves bubble universes is the best for this theory.
The reason that scientists believe this is because of the detection of gravity waves from the origin of our universe. They call these primordial gravity waves. This is an idea that's part of the theory that bubble universes formed during the rapid expansion phase of the universe right after the Big Bang.
The Bubble Universe theory says that an infinite number of universes formed during this rapid expansion period, but these other universes have different physical constants than ours. Only a tiny difference in a physical constant would make a completely different universe, one that we probably couldn't live in. An example of this would be the speed of light. Any change in the properties of electromagnetic waves would change everything.
One piece of evidence for the existence of multiple universes is that when they collide they leave a cold mark on the cosmic background infrared radiation image. However, there are some astronomers that don't think this interpretation is valid. One explanation for the cold mark is that the infrared light passed through a void. That puts the cosmic background proof in question, but it doesn't prove that multiple universes don't exist.
If the multiverse interpretation is the case then these bubble universes may be the source of the gravity that's causing our universe to expand, not dark energy.
There is a lot of controversy surrounding this idea, but if true it would explain the rapid expansion of our universe both right after the Big Bang and the current accelerating expansion we're observing.
What this means is that bubble universes near ours are causing gravitational instability. Could it mean that we will collide with another universe and become absorbed? Or could it mean that we are already pulled into another universe and don't realize it.
There are many questions that need answers.
