Gravity
Gravity
I've written many essays on gravity, which is considered the weakest of the four fundamental forces. Einstein made gravity the property of mass, because mass causes space-time to distort or bend. However, no one can describe how mass bends space other than mathematically.
The main problem is that this definition of gravity doesn't fit with quantum gravity concepts. There are many ideas to get around this, but the one I will discuss is a variant called Superfluid Vacuum Theory. SVT could be considered a quantum gravity concept.
SVT does away with the idea that gravity is due to a particle. Instead, it defines gravity as a property of vacuum, which is considered a background of space itself, and it likens it to a superfluid like a Boss-Einstein condensate.
A Boss-Einstein condensate is a new state of matter in which dilute gas bosons are cooled down to near absolute zero. At this low temperature, the bosons act strange and are able to do strange things. One property is the ability to slow light down to a fraction of the speed of light. Thus, a Boss-Einstein condensate is a very dense but still fluid substance, thus the reason it's called a superfluid.
Curved space-time is caused by the fluid nature of the vacuum condensate. In other words, mass causes the vacuum condensate to be excited by quantum exchanges and makes it bend. This is what causes the effect of gravity. As you can see, this theory actually creates a method for mass to actually bend space because the vacuum condensate that space is made of is fluid.
What about the Higgs boson? The Higgs boson is the electroweak particle that supposedly carries the mass force to all other weak bosons. STV theory says that mass is passed to the weak bosons by interaction with the superfulid vacuum condensate. It's similar to how a gap is generated in a semiconductor. The Higgs boson is a product of the gravity generation process not the cause of it.
Since a superfluid vacuum condensate can behave differently under different conditions, this would explain the fluid nature of gravity and how it actually varies from place to place. In some cases it's very dense and is the reason for the actions that we attribute to dark matter. In other cases it's diluted and this results in the actions that we attribute to dark energy. This would be the case if the phenomenon could be expressed as a logarithmic version of the Schrodinger equation. This would allow for the possibility of grater than light speed travel.
The main thing is that the STV theory does away with an actual particle as an explanation of gravity. Gravity is due to a superfluid property of space itself. The good part of this is that it does away with dark mass and energy. These are seen as just variants of the fluid nature of gravity.
