Chapter 9
1963...
George and Paul had met a girl named Jane Asher and immediately started to try to win her over. She was an actress with long strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes so it was no wonder that they would fight over her.
The competition was hard for George, especially because of how shy and quiet he was. He would do discrete things like leaving chocolates by her door or writing love notes for her in different places. Paul, on the other hand, would take her out to fancy restaurants (as they had become famous with their band, the Beatles), sing to her, get her fine jewelry, and take her shopping. In the end George was no match for Paul and was again sad, lonely, and jealous.
George thought that life was treating him terrible and that he'd never find someone to love and have them love back. He convinced himself that he was a nobody and that he didn't matter. He put on a fake attitude of happiness and fooled everyone.
Everybody had someone but him. John had his girlfriend Cynthia that he met in college, Ringo and Maureen were very serious now and might get engaged soon, and Paul had Jane.
"You don't need them," George thought to himself, "they make you fuss over them and you start to become real sappy."
"Who am I kidding, I'd love to have someone to buy things for, someone to be mine, but I'm afraid that's not going to happen.." his mind trailed.
He learned to accept it because he had to. It was hopeless.
