cluases (independent, dependent)
Clauses*
Ok so independent clause.
The cat ran.
Dependent clause.
Before the cat ran
So you can't have a dependent clause sentence. It is dependent so it depends on more of a sentence.
An independent sentence can be one sentence in itself.
In order to have a sentence , you need an independent clause, I believe.
So,
Before the cat ran, the cat drunk water.
Before the cat ran is a dependent clause.
The cat drunk water is an independent clause.
So, that's a complex sentence bc it has an independent clause and a dependent clause.
For a compound sentence, you'd have 2 independent phrases.
The cat ran, so the cat drunk water.
These need fanboys (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) or a semicolon (;) to be separated
The cat drunk water; she ran.
A sentence to be independent needs a subject and a verb.
A subject is what or who it is about.
The cat is the subject.
Ran is the verb.
The cat ran.
The dog fed.
The human danced.
The trees swung.
I got food.
I is the subject, got is the verb.
Food is not the subject, food is something else but I forgot what it's called so I'll do another chapter on that bc it's confusing...
I is what got food. Food didn't get I.
If I said
Food got me
Then food is the subject
I have cake.
I is the subject
Have is the verb.
Does all this make sense?
So now a run on sentence is one with like 2 independent clauses...
The cat drunk water, the cat ran.
It should be
The cat drunk water; the cat ran.
Or you can use fanboys.
The cat drunk water and the cat ran.
Etc...
The cat ran; therefore, the cat drunk water.
That's another thing, I'll do another chapter on those if someone comments for a chapter on run on sentences bc ik they're a big problem in writing...
Also, just wanna say, I'm not making this book super formal. I'm not careful on my Grammer unless it's an example. I say "bc" and other stuff and I don't say "because", but like, that's how I type. I only write formal if needed, lol....
So yeah
