(Earlier that day)
Alex glanced at the clock, waiting for Science to end. It wasn't that she thought this class was boring.....She just didn't like it. Plus, Doctor Banner was off on some S.H.I.E.L.D mission or something, which left them alone with Doctor Richards, and his wife/fiancé Susan
"Alex!! Pay attention!!"
"Sorry. I wanted to know what time it was." Alex's partner rolled his eyes. Alex knew for a fact he'd rather be paired with anyone else—she didn't even bother learning his name. But, at least the feeling was mutual.
Kind of a lose-lose situation.
"Just hold this steady." He said. Frowning, Alex held the beaker steady while he did the actual science.
'There was a reason I was put in the smart class!!' Alex thought bitterly to herself.
"Alright class, we are running out of time, so if you would please stop what you are doing and clean up." Susan said. She didn't mind substituting, but personally she'd rather be back at the Baxter Building, where she didn't have to worry about what time she was allowed to have lunch.
Alex's partner, took the beaker, and shooed Alex away.
"You clean up while I finish this." He said. Alex gave him an annoyed look and started cleaning up.
"Jerk." She mumbled.
"What was that?" He asked, dimly aware of what she said.
"Nothing!" He snorted and continued working while Alex cleaned up their area. Which was not fun for her.
"Alright class, tomorrow we will be continuing our research, once again on chemicals, matter, and the different reactions to the different mixes." Doctor Richards said.
"Class dismissed." Susan said. Standing up, Alex quickly walked out, heading for Study Hall. Through she wasn't excited for study hall, simply because she had to pass the gymnasium on the way (which was Hank's class now), she was excited because it meant she could sit next to golden boy and find out whether or not he was wearing green or gold.
Someone tapped her shoulder and Alex quickly spun around, hoping it wasn't some jerky bully. Instead, it was Doctor Richards's hand, beckoning her in. Sighing, she followed back in the classroom.
"Ah!! Ms. McCoy."
"Doctor Richards." Susan gave Alex a nice smile. It wasn't Reed's idea to invite her back in, but rather hers.
"Alex, we wanted to see how you were doing?" Alex tore her eyes away from Reed, who was busy bringing down materials, and looked back at Susan.
"I beg your pardon?" She asked.
"Well, from what I remember, last year you were just in Science, not Advanced Science." Alex nodded, frowning slightly. What was this about?
While Susan talked with Alex, Reed was busy getting ready. He had a....uh......colleague coming during his free period (right now), and he needed to make sure the mutagen was stable.
Yes, mutagen. Donatello had asked the genius if he could help make a retro-mutagen, only this time one that did not require April O'Neil's DNA.
"I just wanted to see how you were-- Hank!!" Alex jumped, hoping it wasn't her brother. Thankfully, it wasn't.
Instead, it was Doctor Hank Pym, also known as Ant Man.
Hank Pym wasn't happy to learn that there was a school for heroes that he wasn't invited to teach at, but Tony Stark was. However, after some long persuasiveness of Janet, he ended up coming to help anyway.
"Hello Susan. Reed." Reed stretched his hand out to shake Hank's.
"Hank. Glad you could come." Pym nodded, glancing at the girl in the room.
"I'm Alex." She said.
"Hank." He said, before turning back to Reed.
"So what exactly is mutagen?" He asked, walking over to the other side of the table.
Alex's eyes widened. From what she picked up from Hank, Sam Wilson, and Donnie's conversation, mutagen was bad.
"Mutagen? Isn't that bad?" She asked. Reed nodding, thinking Susan asked the question, and not Alex.
"Yes, it is. And unfortunately a little unstable. The consequences could be deadly, or life saving. If I could figure out how to transform this into some sort of cure then--."
"Perhaps we should figure this stuff out before we start worrying about what we could do with it." Hank said. Reed nodded, unscrewing the cap.
"Right. Now from what I can gather--."
"Susan, can I go?" Alex asked. She had a feeling some of the smartest people of the twenty-first century didn't want her there. Susan nodded, smiling.
"Of course." Reed blinked, realizing Alex was there.
"Oh. Alex. Was there something you needed?" He asked, walking around the table towards her. Alex shook her head, taking her backpack off the floor.
"No sir. Susan just wished to speak with me." Now, accidents happen. But what happened next might not considered an accident by some.
A tiny fly started it all.
The fly flew by Susan, buzzing in her ear. Susan swatted it away.....or tried to anyway. The fly continued to buzz, causing her to knock the mutagen.
Luckily Hank was paying attention.
Shrinking down, he caught the container, and Reed moved Alex, some only some of the mutagen and a bracelet landed on the floor.
"That was a close call." Hank said. Reed nodded and started talking about how horrible it could have been.
Alex, however, was not listening.
Looking down at the bracelet, Alex thought about how she got the thing. It was a birthday present from Hank. Her Hank, not Ant-Man Hank anyway. She remember that he wouldn't talk to her for two weeks before her birthday, and she wasn't allowed in the lab until it was done.
Reaching down, Alex reached out for the bracelet, forgetting about the 'don't touch ' rule Donnie mention once.
Or was it Hank who said that?
Alex grabbed the mutagen covered bracelet just before Reed, Susan, and Hank could warn her.
It wasn't much, but it was enough to the interfere with the x-gene and enough to cause Alex to black out.
Not knowing when she woke up, she wasn't going to be the same.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hank McCoy stared down at his sister. She was breathing, but she wasn't moving.
"Hank, she'll be okay." Susan said, trying to comfort the blue fuzzy mutant. Hank growled slightly but didn't say anything. In his head, this was all their fault. If they didn't have the mutagen out and were paying attention, then Alex wouldn't be in the mess that she was.
Speaking of Alex....
The plant-controlling mutant had gone through some physical changes that Hank hoped he could cure her off.
Alex was now covered in light green fur, with red bangs, but black hair, which confused Hank. Along with that she had a lion tail, cat ears and matching green humming bird wings.
Alex MCoy shifted uncomfortably on the bed, trying to adjust herself. Something was digging into her back, and it was starting to get annoying.
"Alex!! Wake up!!" Alex opened her now ruby red eyes.
"Hank?" Hank grabbed his sisters hands.
"I promise, I'll fix you." Alex frowned.
"What?"
"I promise."
"Promise what Hank?!" Hank swallowed, realizing that Alex had yet to realize her uh.....predicament.
"In the lab....there was an accident. The mutagen....Ant-Man....what exactly do you remember?" Alex blinked. The bracelet......the lab.......she remember.
Alex glanced down at her hands. The green fur....her eyes widened.
"H-H-Hank." Hank quickly hugged his sister.
"Don't worry. Donnie, Sam and I can fix this." Alex nodded, unwanted tears in her eyes. She was going to be fine.....everything would be okay....
She only wondered what Lloyd would do.
