With our first representative for YARomance's School Council, we have the chance to talk with KrystalM. She has stories featured as Editor's Picks and also ONC 2020 Shortlister! Her stories are mainly focused on science fiction themes, horror and paranormal themes with friendship and love.

For the first Book Of The Month, we choose Paper Bag - an on going YA dystopian setting story with the main stress on friendship and the romance twist! 

About the author: Hullo, I go by as Krystal on Wattpad and I have been writing for quite a while - mostly into dystopian science fiction and horror/paranormal

About the Book of the month - Paper Bag:

There is one rule the entire world follows after the Great Nature Apocalypse and that is that every person needs to wear a Paper Bag over their heads. This is to ensure the polluted air that is found to turn humans into frogs once the air hits their faces is prevented, and the material used to make paper bags is the only thing stopping that effect.

But one man, Haru, always thought that that rule is stupid and had no basis, only a tale of caution told from one generation to the next. Deciding to prove that was the case, he walks out into the outside world out of the comfort of the underground bunker and took off his Paper Bag. What he finds out through this elicits a strange journey with his three other close friends (and a nuisance) in finding the origin of this 'fact', specifically, who started this entire rule.

1. What makes you start writing on Wattpad? What is the thing you love the most about writing on Wattpad? 

I saw other people write and it seemed like fun to share your work, so I decided to do it as well! I think it's the friends I made along the way, is what I like the most about writing on Wattpad. 

2. Your book is about YA dystopian setting with people has to wear paper bag on their head, why did you choose to write it like that? What is your inspiration for this new and creative world building?

Oh, well, that's a funny story. I was talking to my friends and one of my friend sent a SIM picture of their sims wearing a paper bag. I thought "hey, it would be funny if you live in a world where you have to wear paper bags over your heads or you'd get turned into a frog" and voila... that's where this came from and my friends had been fuelling these silly ideas in the story ever since!

3. What theme or side of romance that you enjoy writing and exploring the most? Why?

Well, I like a lot of cute tropes like enemies to lover and friends to lovers - but when it comes to writing them, I am very fond of tragic couples. Ultimately, they never end up together and tragically gets separated! 

4. Beside writing stories, what hobbies do you have?

I game, quite a lot haha Currently into Genshin Impact and Cookie Run Kingdom!

 5. What is your writing plan for the upcoming years?

I'm planning on writing my horror/paranormal, and steampunk! So far, that's about it!
