Otto settled into his new life in Narnia with surprising contentment. As time went on he began to realise that there wasn't much he actually missed about England and the 1940s. Not including the Pevensie siblings. Not having Peter or Edmund at his side made him ache at the loss of their friendship and their easy presence. He missed Lucy's cheerful personality and Susan's kind smiles. He didn't regret his choice. Even when he missed them, when long nights of nightmares had him curling up feeling like a unwanted outsider. He would be greeted by Caspian and his new friends in the morning and those feelings would vanish.

Narnia seemed to grow on him more as the months went by. The palace servants all organised the castle, running it like a well oiled machine. The telmarines all seemed to accept Otto as their king as easily as the Narnian's did. He was glad to discover that they were a simple yet loving culture. A history of greedy kings leading to most of the tension between them and the narnians. But with Caspian and Otto bringing about change, the telmarine people relaxed and integrated the narnians into their lives. Both previously separated societies quickly blending together.

Caspian. Otto was unsure where he and his fellow king stood after the kiss. It had happened over two months ago and yet they hadn't seemed to have talked things over. More kissed had happened. Stolen moments between council meetings or before and after meals. Their busy lives making it harder for them to steal any more time together, much to both their annoyance. Were they dating? Was it more? Otto didn't know. The shared role of them both being kings, and the lack of any courting rituals happening  was confusing him. Caspian had taken on the brunt of the kingly duties and was extremely busy with reorganising the kingdom. Otto had been spending his time in lessons with Dr Cornelius, Caspian's old tutor, learning about the history of narnia. The man was kind and nurturing, for which Otto was glad. He rapidly realised how much he had to learn. Everything from Telmarine culture to manners within court, the lands around narnia and their allies and enemies, to the magic of the world. It was a lot but Otto dived in with a panicked eagerness. However, despite his enjoyment, he still wished he and Caspian had more time.

Sometimes the narnian council members helped. They would appear during his lessons to offer advice. Caspian had demoted all the previous council. His new councillors were a mix of narnian and human. Representatives of the main narnian species and a few chosen human associates. Trumpkin was the new leader of the dwarves. Him and others such as Glenstorm, Trufflehunter (a badger with interesting threats) and a few others all held places on the council. Reepicheep had been stated as captain of the royal guard, a position which he took very seriously. Caspian and Otto held a council meeting once a week to deal with any kingdom issues. It was tiring but Otto found a satisfaction from the work which he didn't get from school.

One day, the day of the week he got off from lessons, he was awoken by a knock in the door. He blinked in the sunlight. The summer still clinging on in early autumn. Marie had obviously been in earlier to open the curtains. He had requested her as his only maid when he had been moved to the royal quarters. The motherly woman quickly growing on him. With a yawn, Otto rose from bed and pulled on the clothes from the day before. They weren't too dirty, so they'll do.

The knock came again as he was messing with the laces of his shirt. A month had him finally learning how to dress himself but he was still slow. He stumbled to the door and opened it with a creak. Caspian stood on the other side. He lit up at the sight of Otto, face splitting with a blinding grin. He was dressed in casual clothes. Dark trousers with a off white shirt overlaid with a dark brown tunic. Half of his long dark hair had been tied back with a leather cord. Stray strands falling round his high cheekbones.

"Caspian", Otto blinked at him slowly, eyes still crusty with sleep. He rubbed them self consciously then made an effort to tame his bed head. He had shaved down the back and sides of his hair once it got too annoying. But the top still grew long and dark. The sun adding gold highlights to the ends.

Caspian's gaze turned soft as Otto yawned. "Did I wake you?" He asked. "Sorry".

"It's fine", Otto waved a hand. "I slept in. What are you doing here? No meetings? Or paperwork?"

"Urgh paperwork", Caspian groaned, accent thick in the early morning. Otto giggled as the king's grin quickly returned.

"No. Today I'm free. So I'm here to ask you on a date".

"A date?" Otto repeated in surprise. "Oh. Um yes! I'd love to! Just give me a second to finish getting ready". He turned back into his room, leaving the door open. Caspian followed behind him and watched as Otto finished lacing up his shirt. He pulled on a dark green tunic over top and washed his face in a bowl of water before slipping on his boots. The whole time a bubbling feeling of excitement and pleasure was curled in his gut. His first date. The thought made him feel warm.

"There", he held out his hands. "Kingly? Royal enough?"

"Very", Caspian nodded. "You look dashing. Just give your hair a comb and we'll go".

"So, where are we going?" He asked once his bed head had been tamed. Caspian intertwined their fingers together as Otto swung their clasped hands.

"I thought we'd pick something up from the bakery then go for a ride in the forest", Caspian offered. Otto smiled, feeling warm and content. He brushed a kiss against Caspian's cheek. The sight causing several passing servants to giggle and whisper to each other. Caspian smiled, the both of them unashamed. Otto relished in the freedom of being able to touch the other man freely. No worry that a simple kiss on the cheek would get him arrested anymore.

"Apple tarts?" Otto asked hopefully. He had a fondness for the fruit.

"Of course". Caspian squeezed his hand.

"So what happened to all our meetings?" They walked out into the sunshine of the main courtyard. The guards at the gates saluting them both as they passed through. Otto and Caspian both nodded at them in greeting.

"I have left them to Cornelius and Glenstorm. Neither minded, in fact they both insisted on the two of us having the day off".

Otto beamed and swung their joined hands. As the pair of kings passed through into the city, various citizens paused to bow as they passed. Several children pointing with excited faces. It wasn't unusual to see one king around. Both of them taking time to visit the city. Capons often went in the mornings before breakfast to visit the shop keepers as they set up. He was the earlier riser out of the two of them. While Otto would visit during the mid afternoons when the city was bustling. Both of them nodded and waved at friendly faces they recognised as they passed.

Otto while loved watching Caspian interact with their people, (Their. The fact that they both ruled made him warm), he was impatient for space. He tried not to let the impatience show though. It was embarrassing to admit that he wanted Caspian's attention on him for a few hours. He wasn't used to feeling so clingy. But he guessed that it was the months of stolen moments that fuelled it.

The pair stopped at the bakery on the city centre for the pastries. It was a comfortable shop run by two middle aged women, a married couple. Both greeted Caspian like old friends and pulled him into enthusiastic hugs before doing the same to Otto. They talked for a minute as the women shoved bags full of food into their arms. Mrs and Mrs Varglas commenting on their weight and castle life. Otto laughed as they managed to pay and escape with promises to visit them both soon. Caspian having to practically drag out and away from the fresh scent of sweetly baked goods.

"How long have you been awake?" Otto laughed as they continued through the city. "You must have planed this".

"Only a hour or two before you", Caspian replied. He tucked the food into a bag on his hip and waved over at a guard patrolling the city square. The guard was on horse back and carefully trotted over. "Can we just borrow your horse?" Caspian asked.

The guard, who looked as young as them, was goggling at them with wide eyes. "Of course your majesties", he stuttered. He swung off the saddle and saluted. Caspian grinned in triumph and hopped into the saddle.

"Thank you", Otto said to the guard. The boy blushed and saluted again. "Why are you steering?" He objected as he climbed up behind Caspian. He wound his arms securely wound his waist, Caspian's long dark hair tickling his nose.

"I got on first", Caspian retorted with a chuckle. "You can steer on the way back. I'm the one who knows where we're going".

Otto huffed into Caspian's shoulder. The king laughed as the horse set off in a trot down the street. Hooves clicking against the cobbles. People waved as they passed, avoiding the horse easily. Otto grinned and waved back, basking in the friendly warmth of the city. Soon the horse broke out from the streets and the cobbles turned into dirt roads as grass street chefs out around them. In the distance, Otto could see the forest. The trees welcoming and familiar.

Caspian laughed as he kicked the horse into a gallop. The pair of them thundering through the trees, sun glinting down at them.
