The Forest

Look, I promise I am not stupid. My friend is just a adventurous dummy sometimes. Anyway, we were walking to my house when he got the horrible idea.

My feet walked over the fallen leaves, making crunches, as Jack talked about his day. He was talking about math when it switched to a story he heard about the woods near the back of my house past the black gate.

"The kid went missing! Missing Zane! How cool is that?!" He asked, obviously wanting to go.

I sighed quietly, "Jack, I don't think it's cool to the kids parents." He stated. Jack frowned, the tip of his ears turning red.

"I didn't mean it like that.." He mumbled, trailing off. I look away as I searched my pocket for my keys. My parents are never home till really late. Not that I mind, they work hard for me.

"I am just saying, it doesn't seem smart to go to the forest because of some stupid story you heard. Besides, what if it isn't even real?"

Jack looked at me as I unlocked the door and entered, setting my bag down. "Have you seen the kid in awhile?" Jack said, knowing I haven't because I have brought it up.

"Fine! We can go." I said, groaning as I finally gave in. Jack lit up, looking like a kid in a candy store. I went upstairs and went into my slightly dark room, grabbing better shoes for the forest and putting my bag away. I got ready and went back downstairs to find Jack eating a apple.

"Come on, I already don't want to go." I said as I grabbed his arm and started to take him to the backyard. I let go and started to walk, opening the back gate and walking through.

Jack wasn't that far behind as I walked closer to the entrance of the forest. Leaves crunched under my feet, making the silence break.

"Where are we going?" I asked as Jack shrugged. I threw my head back and let out a groan. We were walking in a random direction than. I heard a groan and looked at Jack, but realized it was too low and to my right. Jack is to my left. "D-did you hear that?" I asked as my voice cracked, trying to hold back fear. I was NOT about to admit I was scared.

Jack rolled his eyes, but I could tell he was scared too. "Don't be ridiculous." He said, still walking as I slowed down. It was getting dark and I looked behind me, face draining of color as I felt myself being watched. I rushed closer to Jack.

"H-how long are we going to be here?" I asked, no longer trying to hide my fear. This is how people in horror movies die! Jack sighed and stopped walking, turning to me.

"Calm down, there is nothing!" He exclaimed, a bit loudly. I looked around before freezing, feeling my shoulders drop.

"Where are we?" I asked, voice almost a whisper.

"I thought you knew?!" Jack yelled a bit, getting frustrated as he pulled out his phone. "Dead." He muttered, clicking his tongue.

I pulled my own out and turned it on. 11:56 is what my phone read, but I had no service. "You have got to be kidding me. No service." I said, Jack taking my phone out of his hands.

"I will find service, stay here." He said as I sat on a tree trunk. I nodded, fidgeting and playing with my hands.

I heard the leaves crunch, knowing that he was leaving. I played with my hands and started to think.

The whole reason we are here is because of the story about the missing kid. Ian or something. Anyway, he was last seen in the forest but the police only found his cell phone and a video on it of his face and reactions. He seemed to have been attacked so they marked it down as homicide or wild animal. Either way, they think he could still be alive so he is considered just missing for now.

I look up when I realize Jack had been gone for awhile. I sat straighter, looking around the dark forest. "Jack?" I called, feeling myself being watched as I got up and started to walk in the direction I think Jack went.

I heard a growl behind me, spinning around faster then I think I could but saw nothing. I turned back around and pushed past trees and bushes. I didn't have Jack to help me feel somewhat safe. I started to smell a metalish kind of smell, like blood. I walked past a tree and felt my stomach turn, having to hunch over as I let out my lunch and possibly breakfast. Jack defiantly wasn't a option now. I walked over and grabbed my cell phone but found it was dead. I felt myself try to breath but heard leaves crunch behind me. Before I could turn everything went black as pain went through the back of my head.

Question!

1.) Is this school appropriate?

2.) Is the grammar and writing good?

3.) Was the story entertaining/scary?

4.) Was it good?

5.) If anything, what should I change?

6.) If anything, what should I add?
