30.

Jungkook was digging in the drawer looking for a pair of scissors. A castle this big with over forty rooms you'd think they'd have a pair.

"Jungkook."  Vernon said.

He quickly turned around startled. "Oh. Uhh...hi Vernon." He tried to sound as friendly as he could, but he was scared.

"I can help you look for whatever it is you're looking for."

"Ummm...no it's fine really. I, uh, better get going. I have some stuff to do."

Vernon blocked the entrance from the door. Jungkook started getting even more nervous. Any interaction with an immortal made him scared. Especially with  Vernon noting their history.

After Taehyung told him that Vernon lost his empathy it made him twenty times as creeped out with him as before.

If he wasn't empathic, that simply meant he didn't give a fuck. What kept him a little calm was the fact that he was Jimin's friend and Jimin was married to the king. Therefore he was sort of protected. He at least told himself that not to go into complete panic mode.

"Looking for these?" He grinned holding a pair of scissors.

Jungkook gulped, "Yes."

Vernon handed them to him. Jungkook took them with a shaky hand. The immortal quickly noticed his trembling and fast heartbeat.

"Don't be afraid. I'm not going to hurt you. I've told you I don't want Taehyung as my enemy."

"Why're you so afraid of him? Is your ability truly that worthless compared to him?" He asked. In reality, he didn't know how he had the courage to ask that out loud. But he truly was just curious.

Vernon chuckled, "I suppose yes. I have the ability to see everyone's past and future life."

"How so?"

"Do you know of the multiverse?"

"N—no."

"Our universe is part of hundreds of billions of galaxies and it is not the only one. There's so many out there you have no idea."

Jungkook suddenly felt mocked, why was he teaching him about science? And what did this have to do with his ability?

"I don't follow, what does this have to do with you seeing everyone's past and future life? Isn't that valuable?"

"Ehh. In a sense. Did I forget to mention that I can only see your love life? It's pretty worthless once I say it that way. Basically, I can see all of your soulmates from all of your past lives. Want to know something funny? For you, it's always one person. That happens to be Taehyung. He's always there, like a friend, a lover , sometimes even an enemy but mainly as your lover."

Jungkook's face turned a bright pink. Vernon could be just lying about it all, but what would be the point in that? Why would he say that? Could he just be playing with him?

"It gets better. I can actually show you. Do you want me to?" He asked, stretching out his hand.

Jungkook's body went into flight or fight mode and he dropped the scissors on the floor running out of the kitchen.

He ran as fast as he could trying to process what Vernon had just told him. If that was true, that meant that Taehyung was his soulmate in this lifetime too. That idea didn't make any sense. Or did it?

He kept running until he made it to his room. He quickly locked the door and attempted to stabilize his breathing.

All he wanted was a  fucking pair of scissors to cut a perfect bow for Jimin's present. Instead he was now stuck on that irrational idea of Taehyung being his soulmate.

It looked like Jimin wouldn't have a bow for his Christmas present.

Nayeon stepped back admiring her creation. Jimin stared at himself in the mirror. He turned a certain way, flashing his neck a little.

She noticed the red mark and quickly looked away. The king had asked her to make a suit for this human and although she wasn't sure who he was, she had a pretty good idea.

Jimin then noticed it and pulled up his collar, "It's a gorgeous suit." He mumbled trying to get her focus off the mark.

"Do you like it sir?"

"Of course." He admired. The fabric was silky smooth, the suit was all black aside from the vest which was grey. The long coat and the embroidery around the wrists was exceptional.

Jimin felt like a real life prince.

"I'm really glad that you liked it sir."

"Thank you for this. It's phenomenal." He said in amazement. He would've never been able to afford this with his previous job.

This lavish lifestyle that Yoongi provided for him was a dream come true. Once Nayeon saw that he was satisfied with his outfit, she excused herself.

Jimin was left in the room overthinking everything that would happen later that night. It honestly felt like time flew because the night of the dinner had finally arrived.

The trees and grass were covered with snow and the garden looked less colorful considering most flowers didn't survive the harsh cold winter.

It felt like it had just been yesterday when he had arrived there in late August. Jimin thought about everything that had happened up until that point and how everything had gone out of order.

First, he married Yoongi without ever knowing him. Second, he had his first kiss with him way after their wedding. Technically it had been breath to breath resuscitation but Jimin still counted it as a kiss. Third, he was absolutely and madly falling in love with his husband who only saw him as a blood bag.

The word love started circling in his mind making his face turn bright red. Thinking about loving Yoongi made him sick. Not just emotionally, but physically too.

Every time it came to mind he'd end up throwing up or with a heavy nosebleed. Knowing that his feelings for him were growing was driving him insane. He had thought of every possibility when it came to marrying him.

Every single one of them except one. Falling in love. That changed everything and it made nothing else matter. It deepened his desire to turn immortal even more. Eighty years with Yoongi suddenly didn't seem enough for him.

An eternity was more like it. Maybe he was being a little impulsive considering he'd never fallen in love before. Of course he was scared and didn't really know what he felt, but this strange sensation had to mean something, right?

Wanting to touch him, wanting to hear his voice, and wanting to be near him all the time had to mean something, right?

A brief flashback from the previous night rushed to his mind instantly. Yoongi had slowly been preparing him for this dinner. He claimed it was an important task to please all the guests.

"Greet everyone with a smile." Yoongi instructed.

"What if I don't want to smile?" He asked as he kept throwing a pair of clean socks in the air while catching them.

He was laying in bed while Yoongi sat on the couch trying to keep him focused. "You're going to have to force one. A lot is on the line at this dinner. It's a tradition that involves important people."

"Why does it matter though? You're the king. You don't have to care what they think." He murmured already bored at this conversation. As the days got  closer to this dinner Yoongi was more persistent with his dinner advice.

When he threw the rolled pair of socks and reached up to grab it, Yoongi's hand caught them midair. He looked down at Jimin who grinned cheekily.

"Want to play?"

"I don't want to play. I want you to listen to me. Can you do that?" He asked in a commanding tone. His face was serious and his voice was slightly deeper.

"Of course your majesty." He grinned oddly excited at this tone.

"What are you supposed to do?"

"Smile and be nice, but what if I don't like them though?"

Yoongi kneeled on the bed beside him. Jimin turned his face towards him and that's when Yoongi pressed his nose on his. Jimin ridiculously blushed at his action, but didn't oppose being so close.

"Unfortunately, as the king's husband you have to be nice to everyone. Even if you don't like them."

"Okay then. So as the king's husband are we going to hold hands?"

Yoongi kept staring deep into his eyes. Feeling his warmth coming from his breath and flushed cheeks. He hated to admit it, but he liked it. He enjoyed being this close to Jimin and it honestly felt so natural.

"I suppose we will."

"What if we have to kiss?"

Yoongi kept quiet for a minute, silently observing Jimin for any signs of regret. But there were none. He meant it, truly meant it.

"Then I suppose we would have to kiss."

"We've never even kissed. Nerveless in public."

"We've kissed once." He reminded him with a teasing smile.

Jimin rolled his eyes, "You resuscitated  me. That does not count."

Yoongi's smirk widened, "Ahh. So you do admit that it wasn't a kiss then?"

"Of course it wasn't. I'm offended that you agreed with me."

Yoongi kept smiling until a flustered Jimin spoke up again, "Why don't we practice? You know? So we're not as awkward when doing it in public."

"I can't kiss you." He admitted suddenly pulling away.

Jimin was suddenly embarrassed for bringing it up. It was hard being rejected from the man he was head over heels for.

"Forget it. I wasn't being serious." He laughed making a joke of it, but it was so painfully obvious that he was hurt. He turned his face away from Yoongi afraid that he'd see the tears that had built up in his eyes.

It was ridiculous to be so emotional over something so insignificant. But was it really so insignificant since it was pulling on Jimin's heart strings?

"You didn't even let me explain why I said that."

"You don't need to. I already know why because I'm human and I will get attached. Blah blah blah."

"That's part of it." Yoongi admitted calmly.

Jimin felt himself get angry. "I knew it!" He screamed sitting up. He was no longer hurt, he was angry. Yoongi treated him like a child. Like he wasn't capable of making his own decisions and that wasn't the case.

Yoongi stood in front of him now. He pressed his cold hand against Jimin's neck sending shivers down his spine.

Finally, Jimin looked at him, unable to resist the urge. Yoongi was quiet and enigmatic like usual, but he kept his hand pressed against his skin.

"You are bound to get attached. That's what humans do. When they feel safe and comfortable around others, they get used to it. They crave attention from that person."

"Okay I get it. You don't have to remind me of my stupid human feelings."

Yoongi smiled, "Sometimes I wish I were human and had stupid human feelings."

"Yeah?" Jimin asked, suddenly intrigued.

"Oh yeah."

"What's the other part then?" Jimin wondered. Yoongi had clarified that this wasn't the only reason he was not kissing him so of course he was curious.

"If I ever were to kiss you I wouldn't want it to be for resuscitation purposes or to practice for some business dinner. It would have to be genuine and intimate. Isn't that what humans want?"

Jimin's stomach started flopping and his heart raced so fast he was sure it was booming in Yoongi's eardrums.

"Yeah. I guess that's what humans want."

A soft knock on the door startled Jimin and he quickly recomposed himself. His face was still bright red from thinking of that moment.

They were so close. So fucking close. The tension was driving him mad. Sometimes he felt like Yoongi wanted him, but other times he sent mixed signals. It was all too confusing for him.

"Coming!" He screamed as he ran to the door.

Jungkook was standing behind the closed door nervously tapping his fingers against the small box. Ever since the talk with Vernon his stomach had been unsteady.

However, as soon as Jimin opened the door the unsteadiness vanished. He hugged his best friend and felt at ease once again.

"Merry Christmas Kook!" Jimin beamed, letting him in.

"Merry Christmas!"

Jimin grabbed his hand and pulled him to the table by the window. Jungkook looked around the room yet again astonished at its size and beauty. He'd only been in the king's room a few times, twice to be exact but it was always surreal.

"I go first." Jimin said, sliding him a wrapped present that looked like a jar.

Jungkook excitedly reached to get it. This was a tradition of theirs among many others. Growing up in the orphanage, they didn't have money to get themselves presents. So most of the time they made their own gifts. When they got out and started working, they were tight on money so their gifts continued to be economic but meaningful.

As Jungkook slowly peeled the wrapping paper Jimin smiled. He was always super careful to not damage it too much. Jungkook was a sentimental holder when it came to gifts.

Once he discovered it was a candle he opened it up to smell it. The sweet cinnamon and apple scent made its way up his nose and to his brain.

He smiled gracefully. During Christmas, the orphanage always had cinnamon and apple scents. Even though their memories there were bittersweet, it had been their home their entire life. Therefore, this candle was home packed in a jar.

"Smells just like it." Jungkook said, taking another whiff.

"It really does."

"I am never going to light it." He admitted.

"Kook, the point of a candle is to light them up." Jimin laughed.

He smiled, "I know, but not this one. I will have it for the rest of my life."

Jimin reached over to hold his hand. "We will always have each other. Forever."

"Forever." Jungkook said. He then reached to get his box. "Since I already have your hand right here, I hope you don't mind me opening up your gift." He murmured, taking out a braided yellow bracelet.

Jimin's eyes widened in admiration. It was the perfect yellow shade. His favorite of course. Jungkook tied it around his wrist.

"I love it!"

"The material is supposed to be strong. I hope it is and doesn't break anytime soon."

"I'll take really good care of it."

"Good."

"Hey, I didn't even tell you but you look really nice in that suit." Jimin complimented him.

"Ahh. Thank you. I can say the same about you. Are you truly sure the king doesn't mind me attending this dinner?"

"Of course not. You're my best friend. You're my only family. He can't deny you to be there."

"Yeah but...I don't know what if it's weird?"

"It won't be weird. Don't worry. Well, actually it will be really fucking weird. At least we will have each other though."

"That's comforting. Is uhh...is Taehyung going to be there?"

Jimin shrugged, "I'm assuming so. He's one of Yoongi's main employees. Why?"

"No reason." He blushed.

Jimin cheekily smiled, "Ahh! Someone has a crush!"

"Shhh! They can hear everything!" He whispered.

"Oh please. Everyone is so busy preparing for tonight that they don't have time to snoop."

Jungkook bit his lip, "Fine. I guess you're right."

"About the crush?" He asked surprised.

"No! About the snooping thing."

"Why're you being so weird if you don't like him then?"

"It's just that...it's stupid."

"I'm all about stupid. Tell me." Jimin encouraged.

Jungkook debated whether he should tell him or not. Talking about it would only make him think about it more, then again it's not like he could stop.

"Do you know of Veron's ability?"

"Vernon? What does he have to do with this? But no, I do not."

"He has the ability to see all of your past lifetimes."

"Oh really?"

"And he told me that in all of my past lives Taehyung is in them too. As my lover, as my friend, sometimes even as my enemy. But he said that the majority of the time he's my lover."

"He can see all that?" Jimin asked, intrigued.

Jungkook nodded, "Yes, but that's not all. He told me he could show me."

"Show you? Well what did you say? Did you let him?"

"Of course not. I don't want to see that."

Jimin stayed silent letting that sink in. If Vernon could see that with Jungkook, technically he could do the same for him. Couldn't he?
