Week 11

Aaaaaaand...we're back!

Given reader feedback, I'll be adding in a few physical prompts with each list and I'll try not to make them too generic. HOWEVER, do remember that your character's actions should still stem from conflict and/or desire. Actions just for actions sake make for rather boring and undramatic reading. 😐

So, if you use a physical prompt, be sure to ask yourself  -- What's the the inner conflict or emotion that's driving this action?

A character could suddenly start folding laundry in the middle of a conversation because they want to avoid a painful topic, confrontation, or truth. That's the conflict driving the action.

Or they could just be folding laundry, but the other characters better bring some conflict into that scene, pronto, or else your readers will fall asleep! :-)

Anyhow, let's see what we have to work with today.

If you're stuck in a scene, why don't you have a character:

1. Violate someone's trust by spilling their secret to another character by accident

2. Come to a conclusion and briefly explain their theory or their thinking to another character

3. Review information, and because of what they discover, chart a different course

4. Attempt to do too many things at the same time

5. Touch another character in a way to bring them comfort

6. Stare another character down until that other character confesses to a wrong

7. Find something that they, or everyone else, thought was lost

8. Escape into a fantasy to avoid a difficult situation

9. Do something the hard way just to prove a point

10. Pursue a reckless course of action to feed an addiction or obsession
