Chapter thirty two

Later on in the week the slytherins held quidditch tryouts, Draco of course had already been promised the seeker spot because Lucius had bought the whole team brand new brooms. Cassiopeia strode up to the pitch holding her own broom that she'd bought herself and huddled with the other students that were also trying out. Most of them were older and obviously had heard about Cassie's outburst on the first night back so none of them would look directly at her.

"Cassiopeia Black!" Flint shouted waving her over.

The girl walked over with her head held high smiling at Draco who was standing with the rest of the team behind Marcus Flint, the slytherin captain.

"Okay your up, ready?" He nodded signalling for the team to get in position.

"Of course" Cassie shrugged mounting her broom and picking up a beaters bat.

She shot up into the sky to meet the other players, a whistle blew from below them and the 'game' started. Cassie weaved around players and the minute she spotted a bludger heading straight for someone on her team she dove infront of them holding up her bat and knocking the bludger back in the direction it came, it smacked right in the chest of the person who had send it there way and she smiled proudly.

When Cassie was on a broom it was like being in an alternate universe, she was calm and agile and not at all clumsy like she was on her feet. She blocked every single bludger that threatened to knock any of her team down. When it was near the end of her try out she knocked one final bludger right in the path of a mid flight quaffle and it went right through the goal. Everyone burst into cheers making the girl grin ear to ear.

Landing back on the pitch softly she winked over to the other students that were about to try out for the one open beater position, then walked over to Flint who actually had a smile on his face.

"You've got moves, Black" he patted her on the back a few times.

"Well your not wrong" she laughed.

"Come on Flint, you know we're not getting better than that" an older boy who was a chaser on the team said with a grin.

"Got to give everyone a fair chance I can't play favourites" Flint nudged Cassie.

"Well done Cass" Draco came up beside her pulling her into a hug.

"Thanks" she smiled.

"You'll know by next week if you have the position" Flint said as he walked over to pick the next person out of the try out group.

"See you later" Draco waved to his auntie as she walked of the pitch.

By the time Cassie had changed and gotten a quick shower Pansy, Neville, Blaise and Theo were waiting outside all with massive grins on their faces. Pansy engulfed her with a hug and spun her around.

"You did amazing!" Pansy exclaimed.

"Thank you" Cassie grinned.

"Cass you looked great up their" Blaise said, he decided to wait another year to try out for the team because he claimed there was a better chance of getting a spot due to the fact a few of the team were graduating this year.

"Come on I'm starving" Cassie linked her arms between Pansy and Neville and pulled them towards the castle.

Cassiopeia had a smile on her face as she stepped through the floo in Dumbledores office, she had missed Emmeline more than she had expected too. The woman was waiting in her living room with tea and sandwich's, she stood and gave the younger witch a hug.

"I thought we could take it easy for your first session back, ta da" she wiggled her fingers in the direction of the sandwiches.

"They look delicious" Cassie smiled.

Once they'd gotten comfortable and poured their tea Emmeline turned to Cassie, "so how have you been?"

"Okay I suppose" she shrugged, "take it Dumbledore told you about my erm... episode, the first night back" she bit the inside of her cheek.

Emmeline let out a stream of air from her nose clasping her hands around her mug, "he did, but Cassie you shouldn't blame yourself" she looked right into the girls eyes.

"How can I not. I put a boy in the hospital wing for merlins sake"

"Your one of a kind love, every precaution the ministry have taken with you, well it has its risks. They knew that right from the start, you are not to blame" Emmeline reassured her.

"It's happened before" Cassie admitted quietly.

"Your episodes?" The elder asked.

Cassie shook her head no, "the vapour that came out of my cuff, it's not the first time it's happened" she held her wrist up.

"What do you mean?" Emmeline was confused.

"At the end of term, before we broke up for summer. When voldemort was attacking Harry, I was in Snape's office and well it started I don't know, leaking." She tried to explain, "I blacked out before anything happened though"

Emmeline nodded staring off in thought, after a few seconds she stood up and started ruffling through a stack of books, pulling out a large leather bound book with a bronze clasped lock she set it down on the table.

"I've read somewhere, I think it was back when Dumbledore was in his prime" she chuckled, "about a boy with an unusual power, he learned how to control it using his wand to direct it. Maybe we could try that"

"Will the ministry allow it, I mean they already think I'm dangerous"

"What the ministry don't know won't hurt them, and a girl with your gifts needs to know how to use them before someone tries to take them from you" she took hold of the girls hand, "and trust me when a man sees a woman with the possibility of becoming more powerful than they are, they'll do everything they can to destroy it"

Cassie agreed and smiled up at the woman, Emmeline had a way of going about things that put Cassie at ease which was a rare thing for her. But in the short time Cassie had been on the planet so far she had seen almost nothing other than corrupt men that only want to see her for what they thought she was, a child, a weapon, a murderer, a little girl.

The dark lord was supposed to be different, he had made Cassie believe that he cared for her and wanted her to succeed. But he had left her, left her to rot at the dispense of her father, and even now when she believed, truly believed that he was still alive he hadn't come for her. He had been more preoccupied with Harry Potter.

When Cassie left back through the floo Emmeline said she would find anything she could on trying to control obscurial power and how to do it with a wand. Dumbledore chatted to her for a few minutes before bidding her Goodnight and she wondered off in the direction of the slytherin common room.

As she made her way through the dungeons she could hear chatter coming from near the kitchens.

"I'm telling you now, the way in is definitely not to punch the pair" a slow but soft voice that Cassie recognised said.

"I'm sure that's what I heard him say" a louder voice said.

When Cassie peered round the corner she was met by Blaise's step sister Rowan and the girl she'd helped on the first night, Luna. The older girl snuck up behind them and waited a few seconds as Rowan was contemplating putting her fist through the portrait.

"If filch catches you going around the castle punching out the portraits, he'll have you strung up infront of the school" she said quietly making Rowan yelp and jump back as Luna just turned and smiled.

"Oh Godric! You scared me Cassie" Rowan said with a hand over her heart.

"Hello Cassie" the blonde grinned.

"What are you two doing down here it's almost curfew?" Cassie asked.

"We missed dinner, I overheard some fifth years talking about getting into the kitchens and I thought we could grab something before bed" Rowan explained.

"Well you definitely don't punch the pear" cassie chuckled, "you tickle it, like this" the girl reached out her hand and tickled the pear and the door swung open.

"Thank you so much" Rowan called as she walked through the portrait hole.

"It was lovely to see you again" Luna said before following after Rowan.

Cassie laughed to herself as she finally reached her common room.

Marcus Flint jogged over to her where she was sitting on the couch with a cup of tea the next morning, she was helping Blaise's step brother Dominic with his charms homework. The girl smiled up at the older boy, "alright Flint"

"Welcome to the team Black" he winked and handed her the house coloured quidditch uniform.

"I got the spot" she held the uniform to her chest.

"Of course you did, there was no point in anyone else trying out" he half laughed.

"Thanks Flint"

"Practice first thing tomorrow, get the team all synced up before the season starts" he said holding a thumbs up to her as he walked back to his friends.

Cassie smiled to herself before putting down the uniform and picking back up her cup of tea and turning to the younger boy besides her who was actually smiling for once.

"What position do you play?" Dominic asked her.

"Beater. Do you play?" She asked.

The boy nodded, "My dad's been teaching me and Rowan since we could walk. Good thing about that is I'm versatile, I'm decent in all positions but if I was to try out for the team I'd probably go for chaser" he smiled.

"Blaise is trying out for chaser next year, if you both get on the team we'd have a Zabini brothers duo" Cassie laughed.

Blaise must have over heard his name because he walked over to them and sat on the arm of the couch.

"Dom will you stop bugging my friends" Blaise rolled his eyes.

"Only my friends call me that" the younger Zabini snapped and started packing away his stuff, "you can call me it" he said to Cassie smiling before walking away.

Cassie smacked Blaise over the back of the head and then pushed him off the arm of the couch, "why'd you have to be such a prat, we were bonding" Cassie said moving over on the couch.

Blaise sat where she was previously sitting and put his head in her lap, "he needs to get his own friends" Blaise looke up at her.

"Just stop being a big baby, he's a good kid and he can be friends with whoever he wants" she sighed but her frown started to turn into a smile, "I got the beater spot by the way"

Blaise grabbed hold of her head and pulled it down forcefully so her could peck her forehead, "knew you would, now can I have a nap in peace" he smiled charmingly.

Cassie laughed and picked up a book from the table opening it so she couldn't see Blaise, "Mhm, go on" she said beginning to read.

—————————————————————

When the next morning rolled around Cassiopeia seriously debated her love for quidditch as her nephew shook her awake. She peeled open her eyes and gave him a death glare.

"See, I was under the impression that no longer sharing a room with you, would mean that you can't wake me up at the crack of dorm!" She whisper shouted.

"I have an actual reason, this time. Quidditch practice." He grinned.

"Mhm." She waved her hand at him, "wait in the common room for me, I need to change."

Draco hurried out the room and Pansy groaned in her sleep pulling the duvet over her head further, rolling over into the spot Cassie had just got out of. Quickly the girl put on her quidditch uniform and brushed her teeth, when she got to the common room the whole team was waiting on her.

As the slytherin quidditch team walked onto the pitch the majority of them looked up in disgust at the Gryffindor team who were training. Cassie looked over to the stands and gave a little wave to Hermione who was half asleep next to Ron. Then four red and gold clad boys flew towards them making Cassie roll her eyes at the sight of Harry Potter. She watched the interaction from where her and Draco stood at the back of the team.

"Flint!" Wood, the Gryffindor captain bellowed at the Slytherin Captain. "This is our practice time! We got up specially! You can clear off now!"

Marcus Flint was larger and much more intimidating than Oliver Wood. Flint smirked cunningly as he replied, "Plenty of room for all of us, Wood."

The rest of the Gryffindor team had come over, too. Cassiopeia frowned at the fact she was the only girl on her team, who stood shoulder to shoulder, facing the Gryffindors besides her and Draco who were quite a bit shorter than them.

"But I booked the field!" said Wood, spitting with rage. "I booked it!"

"Ah," said Flint. "But I've got a specially signed note here from Professor Snape." He handed wood the note who read it out loud.

'I, Professor S. Snape, give the Slytherin team permission to practice today on the Quidditch field owing to the need to train their new Seeker and beater.'

"You've got new players? Where?" Wood raised a brow as he scanned the team.

The wall of slytherin's parted and Cassie and Draco stepped forward, Cassie's lips turned in to a line as she nodded trying not to smile while Draco just swayed feelings far too cocky. Harry narrowed his eyes at Draco while the rest of them stared between the two second years.

"Aren't you the girl that put that kid in the hospital wing on the first night?" One of the Weasley twins asked cocking his head to the side.

Cassie looked at him and nodded with a shrug, Draco stepped in front of her protectively.

The other twin spoke then, "and your Lucius Malfoy's son, right?"

"Funny you should mention Draco's father," said Flint as the whole Slytherin team smiled still more broadly, but Cassie just rolled her eyes again. "Let me show you the generous gift he's made to the Slytherin team."

All six of the boys held out their broomsticks. Six highly polished, brand-new handles and six sets of fine gold lettering spelling the words Nimbus Two Thousand and One gleamed under the Gryffindors' noses in the early morning sun.

"Very latest model. Only came out last month." Flint boasted. "I believe it outstrips the old Two Thousand series by a considerable amount. As for the old Cleansweeps" he smiled nastily at Fred and George, who were both clutching Cleansweep Fives, Cassie frowned at her captain angrily, though he didn't notice." sweeps the board with them." He finished.

None of the Gryffindor team could think of anything to say for a moment. Cassie turned to Draco was smirking so broadly his cold eyes were reduced to slits, she scoffed under her breath and took a step away from him.

"Oh, look," said Flint. "A field invasion."

His words making Cassie look over to where Ron and Hermione were crossing the grass to see what was going on.

"What's happening?" Ron asked Harry. "Why aren't you playing? And what's he doing here?"
He was looking at Draco, taking in his Slytherin Quidditch robes. He went to look at Cassie too but his cheeks flushed and he turned back to his friend.

"I'm the new Slytherin Seeker, Weasley," said Draco smugly. "Everyone's just been admiring the brooms my father's bought our team."

Ron gaped, open-mouthed, at the seven superb broomsticks in front of him.

"Good, aren't they?" said Draco smoothly. "But perhaps the Gryffindor team will be able to raise some gold and get new brooms, too. You could raffle off those Cleansweep Fives, I expect a museum would bid for them." His words clearly meant to appease his teammates, they only made Cassie want to hit him.

The Slytherin team bar Cassie howled with laughter.

"At least no one on the Gryffindor team had to buy their way in," Hermione's voice rang sharply. "They got in on pure talent."

Cassie who had the same broom cleared her throat and stepped forward, "Just to be clear, I bought my own broom actually. I'd never let that blonde prick pay for my things." She smiled and Draco nudged her side, "sorry, it's true though." She said quietly to her nephew.

"No one asked your opinion, you filthy little Mudblood," Draco spat at Hermione and Cassie's jaw dropped, she turned to him and smacked him right in the nose with her broomstick handle.

There was an instant uproar at his words. Flint had to pick Cassie up by the waist to stop her beating up her nephew, he carefully avoided the seeping black vapour on her cuffed wrist. Another Slytherin team member, Miles Bletchley had dived in front of Draco to stop Fred and George jumping on him.

One of the Gryffindor girls, Alicia shrieked, "How dare you!"

Ron plunged his hand into his robes, pulled out his wand, yelling, "You'll pay for that one, Malfoy!" and pointed it furiously under Bletchley's arm at Draco's face.

A loud bang echoed around the stadium and a jet of green light shot out of the wrong end of Ron's wand, hitting him in the stomach and sending him reeling backward onto the grass. Flint almost dropped a kicking and screaming Cassie, but adjusted his grip quickly.

"Ron! Ron! Are you all right?" squealed Hermione, making Cassie Calm down a little but Flint wouldn't let her go.

Ron opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. Instead he burped, almost vomiting and several slugs dribbled out of his mouth onto his lap. That finally made Flint put Cassie down because he was laughing so hard. The whole Slytherin team, bar Cassie who was glaring angrily, were paralyzed with laughter, even Draco who's nose was pouring blood.

The Gryffindor's were seeing to Ron, who was still throwing up slugs. Hermione and Harry picked him up just as Cassie had stormed away, clutching on to her wrist. Her feet couldn't carry her fast enough, so she mounted her broom and flew towards the castle. Not caring she flew it down to the dungeons, ignoring Filtch who was chasing after her.

She stormed into the Common room and passed a very tired looking group of her friends, heading straight to the bathroom. The group of Slytherin second years all looked to one another, all of there heads landing on Theo.

"You calm her down the best mate, go on." Blaise said patting Theo's back.

He agreed so he got up and followed after her, using alohamora on the bathroom door to see Cassie sat under the shower. Usually her episodes came when she was upset, but this was pure fury.

"Cass, what happened?" He asked her softly crouching down beside her, avoiding the icy water.

"Draco's a bigger prat than his fucking father!" She practically growled.

"What's he done now?"

"Just- just keep him the fuck away from me, or he'll have more than a bloody nose." She spat.

"Hey." He held his hands up in defence, "don't be mean to me, I'm on your side. Okay? Always."

"Sorry... I'm just so- so angry!" She slammed her head backwards and the shower tiles behind her cracked.

"Don't do that!" Theo plunged into the water, shivering as he slotted himself behind her. "Muffliato." He waved his wand, "go on, let it out." He rested his arms around her for support.

Cassiopeia inhaled a deep breath, then she screamed. An ear piercing scream that made Theo flinch a little, he made her repeat the process a few times before he felt her body start to relax.

"Better?" He peaked his head over her shoulder.

"Much. Thank you Theo." She said as she turned her head and rested it on his.

"No problem. Now, let's get out of here before I catch pneumonia." He chuckled standing himself up and then pulling her up too.

Cassie took Theo's wand from him and waved it at both off them, blasting them with warm air so they were dry instantly.

Cassiopeia Black vowed in that moment that she'd never speak to her Nephew again, for as long as she lived. He was a product of his father and it was disgusting in her eyes, that he was willing to ruin his relationship with her, just to impress the team.
