~ Chapter 9 ~
It's impossible.
I thought I would never see my parents again.
I thought I'd never see Liam again either but I guess I did.
An officer led me to a room. Both my parents were behind a glass wall.
Part of me wanted to shatter the wall and hug them.
The other part of me wanted to add an iron wall over it.
My real mom looked at me. Her face was a mixture of pain and sadness. My dad's face was expressionless.
The officer stood at the door, "You guys have only 10 minutes so say whatever you need to say now."
Dad spoke, "Hello Harms."
I look at him, "Hi, uh, dad."
"You've grown," Mom said.
"I guess I have." I looked down.
For a few minutes there was complete silence.
The silence hurt. But I was afraid words would hurt more.
"Honey, is there anything you want to say to us?" mom finally said.
A thought wedged its way through my mind, "Why didn't you save me?"
Mom whispered, "We tried honey. I'm sorry."
"But you didn't try hard enough."
"No, we didn't," Dad said, "I wish we had."
I looked down, trying to avoid the pain on both of their faces. "Maybe it was just impossible."
