I looked up. It was Liam.

"Hey," I choked. I must look like a total idiot.

Liam sat down, "Um, I was bored so I came here."

"Yeah."

"Were you... crying?"

I looked down to try and cover my tear-stained face.

Liam looked at me, "You liked him."

"Who? What-"

"Jerry. And now you're jealous."

"What? No! I don't get jealous!"

"Yeah, and I don't attend Alvin High."

I never thought I'd confess this to Liam of all people but, "Okay, I'm maybe a little jealous."

"Yeah, date night! He just met her! He's known you-"

Anger surged through me, "It's your fault. You told him I wasn't worth it."

"I never-"

"But you made him hate me." I accused.

"He doesn't hate you."

"Yeah? Then why does he keep ignoring me?"

Liam sighed. "It was his own decision."

"What?"

"He chose to listen to me. We've been best friends since kindergarten. Don't even think about coming in between us."

"But-"

"Look, you're not good enough for him!"

"Hey, Liam? Just because you lost everything doesn't mean you get to make me lose everything too! Why do you even hate me so much!?"

Liam looked at me.

"I'm sorry." I said quickly, "You just are afraid of losing Jerry."

"I AM GOING TO LOSE HIM! It's just a matter of when..."

"Wait, what?"

Liam sighed.

This wasn't going to be good news.

There were tears in his eyes. "He has stage 4 cancer and the doctor says he only has 3 months left. Or less."

I was silent. But I had to say something. "I'm sorry," I whispered, "He's still going on dates and stuff though?"

What am I doing?!

"Yeah. He's gonna have some disappointed girlfriends."

"That's really sad when you think about it..."

"He doesn't know."

"What?"

"That he only has 3 months. He doesn't know that his life is limited and that this will all end soon."

I said nothing.

"Can we switch the topic? Sorry, I'm still adjusting and-"
