~ Chapter 17 ~
The place seemed so familiar. I wondered why.
"So you want anything to eat? Or drink?" Jerry asked.
"No thank you," I said. I was comfortable just walking around, really. It was nice to have Jerry around to block out any thoughts about the court I had seen yesterday.
"You know, Liam said he was going to the bathroom. It's been a while, he's not back yet. I'll go check on him."
"LIAM'S HERE?"
"Yeah. Look, I know you don't seem to like each other very much, but really, he's a nice guy. You guys would be great friends."
"Sure." My voice was dripping with sarcasm.
"Hi, my name is Liam," the boy said. He looked about my age.
"I'm Harmony," I managed to squeak out. My hands were still tied together. For a moment, we just stared at each other.
"You won't be here for long," he assured me. "As long as your parents pay."
"Pay what?"
The boy's eyes widened. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that." He clamped his hand over his mouth. "Oh, no."
So, my parents were supposed to pay...a ransom? Or what? Why was I even here?
There was shouting outside. I could almost hear my dad's voice. More shouting. Then a scream of agony I saw a woman fall to the ground, blood splattering everywhere. The boy next to me gasped. He ran towards the woman.
The boy—Liam—looked at the dead woman. "NO!" he screamed. "MOM!!!" he buried his face in the woman's chest, tears streaming from his eyes, "Mom!"
The next thing I knew, I saw policemen cuffing the hands of both of my parents. I was violently thrown into a basement by the man who had kidnapped me.
Too much hurt connected to the incident.
Too much pain when I think of Liam.
"You guys would be great friends."
My response: it's impossible
