- Chapter 16 -

"I—I need to use the bathroom. I'll be right back," I told Jerry. Why did Harmony have to be everywhere?

"No problem, man. I'll see you later then."

The bathroom was a surprisingly long walk away. I didn't actually have to go, so I just stood outside for a little bit. The place looked strangely familiar. The trees on the side, the sand on the ground, the brick bathrooms on the other side...why did I feel like I've been here before?

"Look, Liam. You just stay right here, next to the bathroom, and I'll be back in minutes."

"Daddy—wait!"

"I'll be right back, son. I won't be gone for long. Just don't follow me."

"O-Okay."

When my dad returned, there was a little girl about my age with him. She looked scared, and she was crying. "Let go of me!" she said.

My dad threw her to the ground and tied her hands together. "No." His voice was icy, and his eyes showed no kind of fatherly affection that I was used to seeing.

"Please!" she screamed. I covered my ears. I almost felt sorry for her. What was my dad doing? He pressed a cloth to her mouth. Her eyes widened. Her screams were muffled. Within a minute or two, she had slumped to the ground.

"Let's go." My dad said. His voice was gruff.

"But Daddy—"

"Go. NOW!" he said. He picked the girl up and together we ran to the van. We drove off faster than I thought a car could possibly go.

I shuddered. That was probably the last time my dad had seemed anything less than a monster. And it was all Harmony's fault.
