Chapter 8: Titans

I slid the shirt over my head behind the small changing screen, very aware of Levi's presence only a few feet away. My cheeks were still burning, and I was glad that he couldn't see me. I knew that he would think that I was childish.

I turned to the mirror provided in the changing spot, and looked at the white shirt and darker colored skirt that now adorned my figure. I sat down on the small chair and looked down, seeing a pair of boots. The clothing had been all laid out, and for a second, I wondered if Levi had laid them out. My cheeks got brighter. I pulled the boots on and walked out into the middle of the room.

Levi was standing by the door, talking with a woman with brown hair. It took me a second, but then I recognized Hanji. The woman caught sigh of me, and instantly pushed past Levi and ran to me. I stumbled back, a little surprised, until she grabbed my hand and squeezed.

"I've been waiting until you woke up! It seemed like forever because I have so many experiments in mind!" she said, and I shot a worried glance at Levi. The shorter man walked to Hanji, and laid a hand on her shoulder.

The woman was much taller than him; the two of them still at least a few inches taller than me though. "Hanji. Please." He said, and the woman turned to him, her eyes flashing.

"I will not apologize for science." She said, her voice dark.

A few hours later, the entirety of the Survey Corps had packed up, and we began to make our way out of the richer part of the second wall. I hadn't known that we would be moving, and I wasn't in my gear, and everyone else was. But I was soon informed that I would be riding in a group of people, and that we weren't going far.

I rode over to my group, seeing familiar faces for once. Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Krista, Ymir, and—I grimaced—Jean. A smiled at them, and they rode over, clapping me on the back, and saying that they were glad that I wasn't dead. I smiled at them, feeling a little bit of happiness course through me.

"Listen up, Brats." A voice said, and I turned, seeing Levi ride up. He looked over everyone, his eyes resting on mine, and softening a little. "I'm entrusting you with (Y/n). Don't screw up, or there'll be hell to pay."

Everyone complied, Jean sounding angry at his position, and we moved out. The ride was short, and amazingly enough, we encountered no titans. I felt as if the silence was a blessing after everything that had happened, I was hoping that it would stay like that for a little while. Knowing my luck, it wouldn't.

We reached our HQ, just outside the second wall. It was nicer than all of the other HQs I had seen, and there was a protective wall running a large radius around it. We led all of our horses into the stables, and I smiled as I walked away from the animal, its eyes almost looking sad as I left.

We were informed of our sleeping arrangements, and I was slightly pleased that I was with a few friends. The three that had been the first to approach me (Eren, Mikasa, and Armin).

We began to head off towards the big building where all of the sleeping quarters would be so we could all drop our stuff, but I was stopped by a voice calling my name.

"(Y/n)!" The Commander's voice yelled, and everyone turned as I looked back, a little startled.

"I got your bag." Eren said, and he pulled it from my shoulder, slinging it next to his gear and bag. "Go! Before his eyebrows fall off in frustration!" Eren said, and I tried not to laugh at I made my way through the rest of the Survey Corps.

I looked up at the Commander, trying not to stare at his eyebrows, and saluted, feeling underdressed around all of the other people in gear and such. "Sir." I said.

He nodded. "You'll now go with Hanji and Levi, and also—" he said, raising his voice. "Eren!"

I looked back, and heard Mikasa grabbing the two bags from Eren as he not-so-quietly yelled something about Erwin's eyebrows. I glanced up at the Commander, and saw his giant caterpillars—eyebrows, twitching.

Eren came over, looking at the commander. "Sir?" he said.

"I want you to accompany (Y/n)." Erwin said, and then walked away, yelling some orders that sounded official at some other soldiers.

Eren grinned at me, and looped his arm into mine. "Let's go, (Y/n)!" he said, dragging me off towards a big field. Levi followed, watching Eren, and Hanji ran in front, jumping and screeching about all of her experiments. I was a little nervous.

When we made it to the middle of the big field, I heard a rumble, and I looked back, seeing that we were outside of the gate, and were at the mercy of the titans it any decided to come.

"Is this safe?" I asked.

The three looked at me, Hanji pulling a bunch of things out of her bag. She dropped all of them, and grinned. "We're out here so you don't hurt anyone!"

I gulped.

"So when you "turn", let's call it, you have to have a clear objective in mind." Eren said. "And can be something simple, like picking up a spoon, or something like that. And you have to hurt yourself in some way."

I nodded, trying to understand. "Okay."

"SOOO!" Hanji said. I jumped along with Eren, Levi seeming used to Hanji's loud behavior. "I've decided that the first thing that we'll work on is you "turning"!" she said.

"Obviously..." Eren said, coughing to hide it.

"But since I don't have an objective, how am I going to do it?" I asked.

Hanji pulled a spoon from her bag, and Eren slapped a hand to his face. "No, Hanji." He said. The brunette walked out into the field, and I watched as he raised his hand to his mouth, and bit into it. I flinched as I saw red even from here.

"But, what's his objective?" I asked.

"He must have something." Hanji said, watching.

There was a sudden crack of lighting, and I jumped as I watched Eren's body changing, and disappearing completely in the shroud of lighting. When the dust cleared, I saw the giant, fifteen meter class titan.

I flinched a little, still not used to sight of it. It turned, and began walking to us. "He's not going to hurt us, is he?"

Hanji grinned a little, as if she knew something that we didn't. "Well, there's always a chance that he will." She said.

I opened my mouth to reply, but one of Eren's giant hands reached out and snatched Levi right from the ground. I looked up, seeing the titan holding him in his grasp. I watched as Eren turned and began to run, nearly crushing Levi in his grasp.

"He's out of control!" Hanji said, and pulled her blades from their sheaths. She looked down at them hesitating. She put them away, and looked to me. "It'll be faster if you just transform." She said.

I gaped at her. "But I don't know how too—"

She threw a small knife at me. "Well then! Figure it out!" she said.

I looked down at the blade in my hand, and then up to Eren, who was running farther and farther off with Levi. I raise the blade and slashed it down into my palm, spraying blood into the air.

The next thing I knew, a pain was tearing through my body, and I could feel something hot growing around my body, and raising me into the air. I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to block out the terrible sound of flesh burning or something.

With a flash, the pain was out of my head. I opened my eyes, and suddenly saw that I was much higher up than I thought. I looked at my hands, and saw that they looked like flesh that was growing skin as I watched.

I felt something prick my shoulder, and I looked over, seeing someone on my enormous shoulder. I saw short, black hair, and realized that it was Levi. He was okay?

"Look's like we got you to transform." He said. I was confused, but I couldn't form words with my lips. A very small smile played on his lips, and I realized what he had done. "Well, we had to give you some kind of motive." He said.
