Chapter 2: Memories

Hey~ I don't have much to say, but I'm glad people are reading this x Reader!

Love, Writer-chan <3

I looked up at the shorter man carrying me, my face pink with a blush. "C-captain..." I whispered.

He glanced down at me with a stone hard expression. "Yes?" he said, his voice flat.

I flinched at his coldness, feeling as if I had done something wrong. "You... you don't have to carry me..." I said quietly.

He made another "tch" noise, and I flinched again. "You're badly hurt, and I don't want any of the soldiers under my responsibility to get injured seriously." He said.

"But I got hurt before I came." I said.

He glanced down at me, and eyebrow lifting. I shrank under his gaze and he looked up, his face going back to normal, or... if expressionless was normal for a person. "And you got hurt because of bad commands from captains." He said.

It was my turn to have a stone cold expression as I looked up at him. "No." I said. He looked down at me, his face twitching. "No. My squad wasn't wiped out because of bad commands, it's because we were all devoured by the titans at a time when we least expected it." I said flatly, the memory of my squads faces flashing into my mind. "Now if you'll put me down." I said.

He stopped, looking ahead at the hallway of doors where we all slept. "Fine." He said. He set me carefully on my feet, and I tried to stand on my own, feeling pain rip through me. My face turned white as all the blood drained to my feet to make my stomach roil.

He sighed as I teetered on my feet. He was taller than me by a few inches, and it really bothered me. He could look down on me, just like everyone had throughout my life, all of the people from the underground cities looked down upon, literally.

"(y/n). Don't be stubborn." He said. I glared at him with dagger eyes, and tried to take a step forward. He sighed as I stopped and closed my eyes for a second, leaning against the wall for balance. "For the Wall's sake..." whispered, rolling his eye. He reached his hands out and picked me up again, surprising me.

"Levi!" I said, hitting his chest weakly. "Put... put me down!" I said.

He shook his head, walking briskly to my room. I had no idea why he knew where it was, and it was a little disconcerting. He kicked the door open as I said words that made his lips twitch with annoyance. At least he was showing emotion.

He set me down on my bed, my head on the pillow. He turned and began to walk to the door, going to get the medic.

I sat up quickly. "I could've walked just fine on my own, jerk!" I said, feeling hot in my chest. He spun around, glaring at me. He walked forward and gripped my shoulders, pushing me down onto the bed. My cheeks turned red as he stared down at me with his deep grey eyes. I hadn't noticed before how beautiful and dark they were.

"Get some rest." He said, his face a mere inch from mine.

I was powerless under his tight grip, and to be honest, I was a little scared. "Cap... captain." I said, tears forming in my eyes. He straightened, turning around so I could only see his back. For a moment, I noticed that his ears were pink. I found myself blushing again, and I mentally kicked myself.

"I'll go get the medic." He said, walking to the door. He closed it, and I stared up at the sealing. My cheeks were still pink as I thought about Levi. There was no way I was crushing on him. No way.

After a few minutes, in which I had laid there in pain, my eyes closed, my door opened again, and the blonde medic walked in with Levi. I opened my eyes to meet her disapproving one's, and went to sit up.

"Don't." she said, glaring at me as she set a box of medical things down on a table next to my bed. She came forward and helped me sit up, my legs dangling off the edge of the bed. I was so short, they didn't even reach the ground.

She helped me take my jacket off. She started unbuttoning my shirt and my cheeks turned hot and so did Levi's. He turned quickly and walked out of the door. "Tell me if you need anything." He said, slamming the door shut.

"Such an unpleasant man." She whispered, pulling my bloodstained shirt off of my shoulders. She clucked her tongue as she looked over my bandages, the useless things wet with blood. "I have no idea why you had the urge to go to training today, much less get out of bed." She said, pulling the last of the linens from my chest and back.

I didn't look down at the wounds as she inspected them. I knew that the deep lines were held closed with stitches and covered in bruises. A titan had attacked me, and it had nearly killed me, but I remember someone killing it before it could break all of my ribs and crush my lungs.

I couldn't remember who the person had been, and I wish I did because I wanted to thank them. I owed them my life. But when I asked the medics who had brought me in, they had said nothing.

The titan had gripped me, almost breaking my arms and legs, and then it had bitten my side, making me almost incapable of surviving. I could still remember the feeling of my ribs sapping into shards.

The medic had finished, and she looked at the bruises on my arms from the titan's hands. She sighed. "You'll just have to heal over time." She said.

I nodded, feeling light-headed. "Okay." I said.

"But now you need to rest." She said. "And if I were you, I wouldn't move much for a while. Your ribs could heal wrong." She said, her voice stern.

I nodded, my face a little pale, and I leaned back into m y pillows with her help after she slipped a shirt over my chest. My head was starting to pound with a headache, and I knew that it had been a bad idea to even get out of bed. I closed my eyes for a moment, my eyebrows knitting together with pain.

If the titan's were to attack now, I wouldn't have a chance; I would die instantly. With the shape I was in, I doubted anyone would even help me, easier just to leave me as titan chow.

Tears pricked in my eyes as I laid there, still. "I'm leaving now." The medic said, and I heard the door click behind her. I reached my hand up as I heard her talking with the captain. I tried to wipe away my bitter tears as I remembered my squad mates and their dead bodies. They would never forgive me.

My eyes flickered open as I heard the door creak and someone walk inside. I looked up at the captain, my bruised arm covering part of my red puffy eyes. My nose was probably pink from crying as well. Embarrassing.

Levi sat next to my bed, looking down at me. I couldn't tell if there was disgust or worry in his eyes, and I sighed and turned my head to the other side to look at the wall.

"How are you?" He asked, his voice flat.

I didn't answer. "Leave?" I asked a minute later, my rasping voice faint. I wanted to be alone, away from the stupid captain, my stupid comrades, and my stupid life. A jolt of pain racked my body, and I curled in on myself, holding my hands to my burning chest and ribs. It didn't help.

"Do you want me to get the medic again?" he asked.

"No." I said, looking at the wall. I turned my head slightly to look at him. "And why the hell do you worry about me so much?" my coarse voice asked.

He sighed, emotion flickering across his face. "Because you remind me of this girl I knew a while ago." He said. So the captain had had a lover? Interesting.

"What happened to her?" I asked.

Darkness flicked over his eyes. "She died. Eaten by a titan." He said. I didn't say that I was sorry, or that it would get better, because I knew what that was like.

I turned and looked back at the wall, wanting the captain to leave before he could see me cry. "The only way I didn't die was because someone saved me." I said. My shoulders trembled. The person was probably dead by now. I would never get to thank them.

Levi walked to the door, and I heard it creak open. "(y/n)..." he said.

"Yes, captain?" I said.

He was silent for a moment, and I thought he had left. "I was the one who saved you." He said, his voice holding the faintest emotion.

I turned my head around just in time to see the door close. My eyes were wide, and I felt my hands trembling. Why were my fingers shaking like that? Levi, he had been the one that had saved me.

I felt tears brim over my in my eyes and spill down my cheeks. "Why couldn't you have just left me?" I asked the dark wooden door. I closed my eyes, wishing that I was dead, then maybe I wouldn't be haunted with the screams of my family and my squad mates.

"Why?" I asked, seeing his image in my mind. "Why?"
