chapter v.
Mindy had called everyone over to her and Chad's house and nobody knew why. Wes had woken me up from my nap, after I had finally fallen asleep due to hours of nightmares keeping me awake, only to tell me we had to go back out again. I curled up on their couch, leaning my head on Wes' shoulder as Mindy played with my hair and pulled a blanket over us. "This better be good as I was rudely awoken from my nap for whatever this is." I groaned as I yawned and wiped my eyes, Amber rolling her eyes rudely at me.
"Sam, you told me to call everyone here, so here they all are, minus Tara for obvious reasons." Mindy explained, gesturing to all of us sat beside her on the couch as Sam, Richie and my dad walked in together.
"Dad? What on earth are you doing here?" I asked, running my hand over my face in exhaustion. When his eyes met mine he averted them, looking shocked at the bags under my eyes and withdrawn and anxious appearance.
Mrs Meeks-Martin entered the room with a tray of snacks in her hands and a huge smile plastered on her face. "Oooh, suspects. My brother would be so proud." She paused for a moment looking up at Randy's picture on the wall. "Hey Lexi, Dewey! You look-" She cut off there, clearly not knowing what to say so she nodded her head instead.
Moments later Chad and Mindy sent their mom away and started whatever conversation brought them all together in the Meeks-Martin household. "I told Mindy to call everyone here, because I have something to tell you all." Sam began before beginning to explain her biggest secret to her and her theories about who the killer could be.
My eyes were wide at the mention of the man who killed my aunt, tried to kill both of my parents and attacked my godmother, being my best friend's older sisters biological dad. The man who ruined my family's lives' daughter was sat infront of me, right now, and it was scary as fuck.
"So let me get this straight." Chad began, looking between Sam and Dewey and the rest of us, seemingly just as confused as I was. "You're the daughter of Billy Loomis, and what- that one of us is the killer?" He stated, looking at the brunette for confirmation who simply nodded with a sad smile on her face.
"The killer told me they knew my secret. He attacked Tara to lure me back here." Sam told us, holding her gaze upon me before breaking it and gesturing around the room.
"Then why immediately go and kill that douche-nozzle that stalked Liv and I?" Fear crept into my voice as I asked the question everyone was thinking. "He is connected though. I googled him. His mom is Leslie Macher. Stu Macher's sister." Everyone's heads snapped up as they took in what I had just revealed, Liv the only one looking confused.
Her pink hair rested on her shoulders as she held her haid on one side looking puzzled. "Who is Stu Macher?" She asked, causing Mindy and I to scoff harshly, not believing that she didn't know one of the original ghostfaces.
"Billy Loomis' accomplice. Real looney tune. It was at his house where they tried to kill everyone." I explained as everyone focused their attention on me.
"What about deputy Dewey here? Maybe he's the killer." Wes argued, I inhaled sharply as I moved his hand out of my hair and onto his lap. How could he suggest that my father was doing this after all he had been through, we had been through. "No offense." He added once he noticed my cold stare.
Dewey lifted his head slightly. "None taken, but what's my motive?" He questioned, leaning forward slightly and resting his head on his hands.
"You got stabbed a billion times. Divorced your famous wife. Had to give up your job. Raise a teenager alone. And crawled into a bottle." My boyfriend replied, digging himself into a deeper hole with me as my glare focused on his face, my dad's smile crumpled as he leaned back in defeat.
My dad sighed out a small surprised laugh as he pushed his hand through his messy hair. "Maybe you're the killer." He accused his smile falling from his face, replaced by a hurt expression. "Because that cut deep." I struggled to surpress my laugh from his bad joke but failed and ended up shaking slightly from my laughter.
"So the first four attacks are all on people related or connected to previous serial killers." I wrote down in my notebook as Mindy and I simultaneously snapped our heads up in realisation as it sunk in. "Oh my god, they're making a requel!" Mindy nodded in agreement as everyone looked at us in confusion as she slowly helped me to my feet as we stood infront of the group.
Chad raised his hand, slightly mouthing the word to himself. "A what?" He asked, still clearly confused which caused Mindy and I to burst out laughing.
"Or a legacyquel, fans are torn on the terminology." Mindy further explained as Chad rolled his eyes, still not seeming to get it.
"For god's sake horror twins. Please speak English." Chad snapped causing Mindy to nod her head as I chucked my notebook to Wes to keep writing my notes.
"Do you remember the stab movie that came out last year?" I asked as Mindy nodded her head, seeing what I was getting at.
Liv smiled and nodded her head. "Oh yeah! The one the knives out guy directed, right?" She started, causing me to smile at her and send her a thumbs up. "I actually really liked that one." Mindy sighed as I huffed, stab 8 was our least favourite and the first stab was my favourite.
"Of course you did. You have terrible taste." Mindy snapped, rubbing her temple as she started to think along the lines. "The point is, the hard core stab fans hated it. Go on 4chan and Dreadit, all they're talking about is how Stab 8 pissed on their childhoods. How they crammed in social commentary just to elevate it. How the main character is a Mary Sue." I counted off the points on my fingers, remembering our many discussions over this matter.
Richie raised his hand, but I already knew what he was going to say. "Before you ask Mr weirdo new guy, you don't want to know what a Mary Sue is." He looked even further confused with my statement but let it slide.
"What's wrong with elevated horror? I mean, Jordan Peele fucking rules." Amber supplied, reminding me that she was still there, she had been sat quietly in a corner, unlike the normally annoying Amber Freeman.
Mindy and I nodded in agreement at her statement, both loving Jordan Peele. "Obviously, but that's not stab. Keep up Amber." Kristian snapped at the girl before returning to writing his notes.
"Real stab movies are meta slasher whodunnits, full stop." I stated, remembering when I first watched Stab at Mindy and Chad's house when I was twelve. "To some people, the original is their favourite thing in the world. The movie that made them love horror." I raised my hand, indicating that the stab franchise was what had gotten me into horror, that, and my family's fucked up history.
"That mom or dad showed them when they were ten that bonded them together. And god help anyone who fucks with that special memory. Who makes a movie they think disrespects it. It sounds like our killer is attempting to write their own version of stab 8, but doing it as a requel." Everyone looked at me as I spoke, Wes still writing my notes for me.
I noticed the still confused look on everyones faces and furthered the explanation that Mindy failed to offer. "See, you can't just reboot a franchise from scratch anymore. The fans won't stand for it. Black Christmas, Child's Play, Flatliners... That shit doesn't work." Mindy interrupted me, cutting me off mid flow, to which I sent a glare her way.
"But you can't just do a straight sequel, either. You got to build something new. But not too new, or the internet goes fucking nuts. It has to be part of an ongoing story line, even if the story shouldn't have been ongoing in the first place. New main characters yes, but supported by and related to legacy characters. Not quite a reboot, not quite a sequel." Mindy concurred as I continued with our point, our ideas bouncing off of each other at this point.
"Like the new halloween, saw, terminator, jurassic park, ghostbusters. Fuck, even star wars! It always, always goes back to the fucking original!" A smile was plastered on both of our faces as everyone else was confused as to why we were so excited about this, when there was a masked murderer set out to kill us all.
"Are you telling me that I'm caught in the middle of fan-fucking-fiction?" Sam snapped, not looking impressed with the situation, which was understandable. Mindy shook her head as she started to interrupt again.
"Not just in the middle Sam. You're the star." She supplied causing Sam to sigh and run a hand over her tired and overwhelmed face. "So, not to put too fine of a point on it... but, according to requel rules. Going by the pattern, who ever it is has to be connected to someone that came before." Mindy told everyone, all eyes in the room going from me, to the twins and then to my dad.
"Jesus, my mom was a character in one of them." Wes looked shocked as I tried not to smirk as Mindy shook her head at him.
"No one cares about the shitty, inferior sequels, Wes. You're safe." He sighed in relief but still didn't look too sure. "However, with Randy as our uncle, you and me are probably screwed." Mindy said to her brother before refocusing her attention completely on me. "Sweet, sweet Lexi. My best friend. You're probably certain to die. I mean, you're related to four legacy characters. Your mom and dad are two of the original survivors, your godmother is the original final girl and your aunt was killed by Sam's dad." Wes' hand reached forward instinctively and squeezed my hand in reassurement.
"Or you're the killer. And this whole elaborate dialogue is just to cover your tracks." Richie countered, his eyes darkening as he looked at me, causing a swirling feeling to occur in my stomach.
"I think it's pretty obvious, who the killer is at this point." I stated, my eyes on Richie, but Mindy interrupted.
"You." She said pointing towards Sam causing her to scoff and walk out.
"Well that went fucking fantastic." I smiled sarcastically as I sat back down, resting my head on Wes' shoulders.
