I'm in a small town in Idaho.

I still remember the look on Grady and Edaline's faces when they found out I was going to be banished.

Their expression when the Council told them...

Well, let's say it was as if the Council told them I was dead.

Edaline started crying, and Grady looked shocked.

I couldn't look them in the eye.

The reason I was banished in the first place was because Gisela was trying to recruit me, and Dex overheard them.

I swear, I was just about to Inflict on her, but now all my friends and my parents think I betrayed them.

Dex was standing in my doorway. "Traitor!" He spat.

"P-please, y-you know m-me." I stuttered.

But Dex just kept yelling at me. "Liar!"

I kept shaking my head. "Dex..."

What Dex said next was like a knife to the heart.

"I thought you were my friend."

I recoiled like he slapped me.

I was about to deny it once more, but Dex raised a crystal and glittered away.

Gisela, who was watching the exchange, smirked. "I'm your only option."

She wrote down something on a piece of paper and placed it on my desk. "Just in case."

Then she disappeared like Dex had.

I couldn't stop her; I was on my knees, choking down sobs.

My life had disappeared in front of my own eyes.

I took the knife I've always kept in my secret compartment underneath the desk and I hold it.

I press it to my skin. 

I could just kill myself, right now.

The thought hits me like a speeding train.

I press harder.

I watch as a drop of blood appears, and I notice how I barely felt anything.

That's how I knew that I was truly numb inside.

Sorry that it was a depressing chapter!!
