15. Devil's Victorious Ways!
"That's it!" Dylan's conquering tone of voice mixed with contempt only added fuel to Aaron's already seething rage.
Hearing the host's voice through the large speakers, the color drained from Aaron's face. At first, he looked dour when the victor was finally announced, silent exasperation and dissatisfaction clearly visible from his red face. Then, the next moment, his eyes turned icy.
Finally, he turned, at last, to face a victorious Dylan who stood there carrying a permanent simper on his face. Aaron was already there, his eyes narrowed, rigid, cold and hard, staring at his enemy and competitor, Dylan. Scarlett's fierce stares directed his way either as he smirked all over again. Aaron did not just lose the race, but also the project and that is what makes him livid. Truthfully, her system was not much affected, as she was not into the project as much as Aaron was, yet, she was disenchanted on his behalf. In addition, the fact that the challenger was none other than Dylan makes it quite hard to accept the fact.
Aaron could not stop cursing under his breath. Noticing his rage, Dylan stopped by his side. His eyes twitched and his lips did not beat the enjoyment and pleasure he felt now. Inclining a little more to Aaron's side, he provoked, "Buddy, not every time the luck is in your favor and it's completely okay." he tapped onto his shoulder only to get another brutal glare from him. Faking a short exasperated sigh, he stepped away, the tease his eyes carried was so perceptible to ignore making Aaron glared at him viciously.
Before he could return his fire, Aaron's phone rang incessantly, resulting in him backing away this time. Giving him his last angry stare, he walked away. It was different, witnessing him outraged to this extent. He was reputed to be the most composed and collected person among all the people that they had interactions with. However, it was before Dylan's reappearance. Now, the scene happens to be conflicting. He is often spotted infuriated and he simply gets under the persuasion of his temper when he is around the sardonic devil.
Giving him his last deadly glare, Aaron walked out of their sight. "I can't believe you chose him," Dylan exclaimed as his gaze focused on Scarlett, his eyes showing soft mockery, "I mean look at his actions. If I was him, I wouldn't leave my beautiful, sexy fiancée with her ex-lover," he shrugged as he planted a sly smile on his lips.
"He has total faith in me," Scarlett scoffed at him and her temper returned the moment he passed an amused look her way, "It's something you wouldn't understand, Dylan. It's pure." She added caustically as he stared at her.
"I don't think it's a coincidence. You are surely here to ruin our good time," Scarlett mocked, folding her arms as she stared at him cross-eyed and then added, "As always." Her words only pleased him while his expressions pissed her off.
"Of course," he replied within the next second as he took a step forward, suddenly leaving her alerted, "I'm trying to be there everywhere you are, baby girl," he grinned maliciously as he further continued, "I don't care about that shitty fiancé of yours." He shrugged, maintaining eye contact, the malice smile not leaving his lips anytime.
"Oh come on, Angel, stop looking at me like you're fuming or irate," he added carefree when she unrelentingly glared, "I can't handle those now. It's high time that you finally express those longing stares, like old times." He completed pompously smiling big and wide.
"In your dreams," Scarlett rolled her eyes. Shaking her head, she turned but soon she felt him grabbing her arm hastily, causing her to look at him.
"You have no idea what I dream of, baby." He suddenly went to whisper as he stepped closer than necessary, his eyes intense as his voice sensual, instantly leaving her alarmed.
Pushing him away, Scarlett glared at him only to receive an annoying chuckle from him. Dylan took a step forward as he whispered, only for her to hear, "I'm confident you still remember how I can love you, Angel," his arm slowly curling back as he continued, "Like a real man. You wouldn't want to leave or get away from me then." He ribbed, his eyes showing the desire, the same kind that has started to haunt her existence since last night. What was the exposure, Scarlett could never know anytime?
Dylan's touch, his closeness excites her entire system nerves and his sensuous voice only makes her heartbeat race. His kisses made it hard for her to stop the ridiculous thoughts that have already clouded her brain. They continuously screamed his name, wanting more from him. Scarlett had no control over her emotions, when he was around and when he was extremely close, her skin desperately craved for his touch.
"He didn't leave me," Scarlett snapped, ignoring the unwanted sensations, "He is busy taking an important call, unlike you, who always manages to snag by interfering like this." She completed it with a derisive smile backing away from him.
He chuckled in amazement.
"Ah...important call, I wonder what it would be," he remarked, his tone turned mordant, "Anyway, thinking about you and being around you is wholly my business." He added smiling as he smoothly managed to touch her, running his hand over her hair.
However, she jerked his hand away, "Don't you dare..." he did not let her finish as he cut her off.
"As I said, enough of this coldness already," he added in a complaining manner. Before Scarlett could react, his hand reached hers tenderly making the blood rush to her cheeks and her stomach started doing flip-flops.
Progressively bringing up their entangled hands in front of his lips, he pressed his lips to her knuckles, kissing them lingeringly, his eyes gazing and studying her expressions.
"I'd love to come over to your place tonight, like the other day; I love that tiny robe on you." He murmured the last part against her skin, making her thoughts go haywire. Only to worsen the task, he continued, "I would love to remove that, not that you'd refuse." He whispered presumptuously, tracing his finger on her neckline.
Scarlett jerked away, widening her eyes at his shamelessness and perverted remarks.
"You think that I'd let you enter again?" She demanded, glaring at him.
"What makes you think that I would ask your permission," his eyes held soft laughter as he stared at me amazed, "As I said, you wouldn't refuse. You just cannot resist me, I can see it in your eyes clearly, Angel. Your love for me is just the same." He completed confidently, stroking her cheek with his thumb.
Scarlett could not help but stare at him in disbelief. Her eyes went wide for his arrogance.
"It was a game for you, not me." She murmured but possibly heard it as she noticed his displeased expression, which he'd masked again, like an expert he was from the start, keeping his emotions to himself. He looked hurt for a moment but soon, he found him smiling, "Angel, stop staring I said. It is difficult to hold myself. I want to hold you tight in my arms and kiss you like the other night, but we have an audience here." He said, his eyes holding teasing laughter.
Scenes from last night came back rushing one by one at the back of her mind, making her feel goosebumps. She sighed audibly and noticed his smirk.
"You are an arrogant person." Scarlett declared coldly only to make him laugh richly.
"Do wait for me, we will soon meet, Angel." He added as she rolled her eyes. He remarks the same and dishearteningly, he does show up wherever I go.
"Not again," she mumbled under her breath as she searched for Aaron. Dylan's words about him leaving her with him echoed in her mind and they forced Scarlett to think about his words more.
If she thinks, it is always business for him first, then Scarlett would not precisely be wrong. The foremost priority for Aaron has always been the firm's actions first. She does not remember him taking a leave.
Getting back to her senses, she instantly shook her head, brushing away every negative thought that was about to approach. Scarlett cannot let the devil's words affect her brain. Clearly, he was trying to break off her smooth relationship with Aaron.
Scarlett glanced around in search of him and found Aaron staring at an empty bench as his face glowered. His eyes held wrath making her frown deeply.
"You look incensed. What is wrong?" She questioned. He took a glimpse at her way as he smiled bitterly.
"I meant apart from Dylan and his aggravating statements, what leaves you annoyed?" She queried, facing him.
"We lost that VT firm," he paused, his eyes turning into slits, "To Dylan." He completed gritting his teeth. The way his name rolled out from his tongue expressed pure antagonism. Scarlett's eyes turned wide as she stared at him in shock.
Involuntarily, she forced herself to reminisce about Dylan informing her about the papers for what he'd sneaked in, the other night.
He would be mad. The statement from him made her perplexed but now she'd fully grasped the meaning behind it. Dylan was going to crack it and therefore, he reflected like a total confident and arrogant person. Unquestionably, he bought the firm beforehand, studying the papers.
A quick wave of guilt surpassed her system. If it were not for Scarlett, then the VT firm would probably be ours, and not Dylan's. Only if she'd passed him to the police yesterday, he would have ended up in prison. He would not be seen winning the deals that were hypothetically meant for her firm. The thought made her grit angrily as her fists clenched.
She was brought out of her trance by hearing Aaron's angry voice."How did it even happen? I want you to find out about this traitor, make it quick or you will be fired." He growled at an employee over the cell phone as he crossly hung up.
A sudden terror rose within her body as she unintentionally fiddled with her fingers. Scarlett definitely does not want to let him know about Dylan's intrusion the other night at her mansion and taking away the papers. Was there any more possibility of her turning more naive? She questioned her own ability to sense and feel. Dylan was playing all along, to get those documents. He chose to divert her attention and Scarlett being as exposed as ever, reacted readily to his seduction. In addition, reacting to his touches and kisses, she only gained up his assurance yet to another level. She was reluctantly so filled up by his thoughts that she did not realize him taking away the papers with him.
Firstly, she had no idea how such important documents ever reached her study. Scarlett started to curse herself all over again. Aaron would certainly be so displeased and disappointed by her incapability after knowing all that backstory and that fact irked her deeply. He would undoubtedly recognize the effect Dylan has on her. What would she say if he queries about the devil's interference – why Scarlett did not take immediate action against him? She could not even answer herself. How will she answer those arising questions to Aaron?
"Scarlett," she turned in exigency and inelegantly upon hearing Aaron's voice. Her posture made it clear about her bothered state as he gave her a look containing suspicion. However, he ignored it as he scratched his forehead.
"Yes?" I asked, trying to sound as normal as possible.
"Sorry, I wasn't thinking straight, I really lost it this time. I couldn't believe the fact that I lost to that wretch," he paused as his eyes again warped in displeasure and anger, "I would find out by hook or crook, you don't worry about it." He completed it. Scarlett smiled back at him weakly.
Scarlett definitely realizes that she had involved herself in deep trouble.
Flashback:
"We're late," Scarlett elbowed Dylan, giving him a pointed stare as he groaned, "All because of you." She added, averting her eyes everywhere, where everyone already danced with their dates and partners.
"Not my fault, babe," Dylan started to say leaning to her ear, "You look ravishing and I could not stop myself from looking at you all the time." He completed, his eyes not hiding the mischievousness as Scarlett glared at him. She managed not to flatter herself by his words this time.
"Pretty cheesy, huh, I'm not falling for that anymore." She flipped her hair with attitude.
However, the statement caused her lover to give her an offended stare and that gave a reason for her to giggle. Witnessing her content, brought an unconscious smile on his face. He was totally infatuated and whipped by her.
Dylan continued staring at her as she smiled. He could not believe how he ever managed to stay away from her. She was something, she made him feel, she made him smile and she eventually made him feel the butterflies. To him, she was ace.
"You already fell for it, babe." He smirked winking, making Scarlett roll her eyes.
"Let's go dance," he dragged his girlfriend to the dance floor. They moved along with the music. His hand rested at the small of her back whereas she had his arms encircled around his neck. They both were so connected, emotionally. Together, they danced to the music as she hugged him. A real smile added up to her lips the moment she felt his increasing heartbeat.
Occasionally, he pecked her lips as the smile refused to let go of her face. Being with Dylan was her favorite pastime. With him, time really flies. Scarlett wanted the moments to stop whenever they were together.
The lone strands of her hair that danced around her face really preoccupied him. He wanted to hold her always like the way he did at this moment. He experienced the sudden urge to kiss her leaving her breathless. Brushing away the hair locks, he stroked his innocent Angel's cheek with most compassion. In return, she pecked his thumb, which was on her lips for a mere second making him smile in fulfillment. They were officially in love with each other.
The lovebirds were so engrossed in their own little world of love, that they did not realize their friend, Leah, was under the influence of impairments and nuisance.
It was only a while later when eventually, Scarlett's gaze fell on her friend accidentally. She was gaping, her eyes dark in ferocity as she continued staring at Aaron, who was quite busy, unsurprisingly, hitting and smooching in one corner, uninterrupted.
Scarlett visibly cringed, both at her friend's condition and Aaron's playerish ways.
"Why do these girls fall for his charms even after knowing about his ways?" She muttered rolling her eyes.
"Can't blame them, my best friend is one of them too." She thought to herself.
"Dylan, darling, I need to go." She abruptly backs away, breaking their moment, only to cause him to groan. He then followed her gaze, which permanently landed at her friend. She had a deep frown on her forehead.
"Leah, where's Mason? You were with him right?" Scarlett questioned realizing his absence around her.
"I shoved him away," she replied, her gaze murdering the girl whom Aaron had been dancing quite close than required. She further seethed, "He is such a pain in the ass. He's so nauseating." She completed her grip on the clutch that she carried tightened as she continued shooting daggers at the lusting pair that danced visibly far in a particular corner of the dance floor.
Scarlett happens to notice the change in her actions. Her friend hardly opened her eyes. She was completely drunk.
Scarlett's gaze traveled beside her, and there on the table laid a few empty glasses
"How much she drank!" She exclaimed in bewilderment. She wondered where Mason was and why did he ever leave her alone by herself, she had gulped down glass after glass until she was extremely tipsy.
Sighing, she moved to her right, blocking her friend to look at Aaron.
"It's high time," Scarlett warned, her voice coming out slightly harsh, "Either you confess or you give up. Because he's a player." This time, she suggested truthfully.
Leah pouted at her sadly and soon started to sob hysterically. Scarlett could not see her misery. All this while, it was her, who encouraged her to man up and express her attachment for him but, she realized that he is just not the person to involve one's emotions with. Especially Leah.
Leah was her best friend and she certainly cannot give her counterfeit hopes saying he would like her back. It is something that is never going to happen because as the sight in front of them recommended, Aaron just cannot bond to one girl.
Scarlett gazed at Aaron and he was into his business again. Kissing like there is no tomorrow as his life was totally dependent on it.
Averting her eyes from him to Leah in front of her, she settled beside her, "He's a jerk, douche, brainless and a bastard." Leah vented out her disappointment by calling him names.
The next moment, unpredictably, she was on her feet. Before she could reach her, she met the floor.
"Damn!" She cursed, groaning over pain. Hastily, Scarlett stood up as she balanced her. Carefully, she made her sit on one of the stools where she was sitting earlier.
"I thought he would like me." She busted again in her unaware state.
"It's okay, Lee. You will be fine. You don't deserve someone like him," Scarlett assured her friend as she initiated a hug. The moment she did, Leah lost it as she sobbed endlessly while the former hugged her.
"It hurts to see him with those girls who throw themselves at him." She hissed again. Scarlett felt so bad for her friend at that very instant. She understood her pain clearly. If some other girl trifles with Dylan, she would certainly kill that girl and then him.
"I want a drink, give me one more glass. Quick, I'm thirsty." A smashed Leah yelled all of a sudden making her sigh.
She groaned and yelled when Scarlett disagreed. It would be better if they took her home, she thought.
"Dylan," Leah exclaimed once he approached them, "Scarlett, you're lucky to have him. He's so gentlemanly, unlike that manwhore. I despise him. I loathe him." She cried all over again.
"You should feel blessed to have me, Angel." Dylan boasted as he held his girlfriend close.
"We have more important concerns here," Scarlett hissed, backing away from his hold as he chuckled.
"It's okay, Leah, there are many fishes in the pond. Move on." Dylan started casually, sitting beside her. She looked at him for a second and again made a sad face, "I hate him," she uttered making a disgusting face, "I liked him." She sobbed again.
"We have to take her home. Let's go." Scarlett glanced at him and the next moment, they were on their way home. Reaching the mansion, Dylan helped Scarlett to take her to her room and made her lie carefully on Scarlett's bed.
Giving his girlfriend a brief kiss, he left for his room.
"I'm distressed," after a while, Leah stirred in her sleep, "I'll not look his way to any further extent." She added as she opened her eyes slightly.
"Okay, Lee, now go back to sleep, sweetheart. You need tremendous amounts of rest." Scarlett stroked her head. Not so soon, she drifted off to sleep. "Tomorrow's going to be a long day, but it's going to be okay. We'll figure it out." She added reassuring her hazy friend.
