Chapter 10

Devin looks all around the place for the perfect spot to attempt his photoshoot. When he comes across it he sets up. The trampolines here are thirty feet long and all five of them are connected in a row creating five different lanes. After he grabs his camera bag from the locker he unpacks everything he needs. His equipment is certainly a lot more impressive now and I'm not talking about the equipment in his pants.

I chuckle at my inside joke and continue to watch him get organized. It's magical to watch him work. He's in a world of his own and it's as if nothing and no one else exists. He knows exactly what he is doing and does it effortlessly without a thought. In five minutes he has his camera adjusted and working how he wants.

"Okay, so explain again what you want us to do?" Jackson asks Devin. He looks completely at a loss. My brother is definitely out of his element right now.

"It doesn't matter who helps her but I need someone to flip Letty backward again like Will did. She needs to be launched as best you can to try and get her high up. Letty, do you think you can put your hair down? I think having your hair flying around will add to the shot. Oh, and can you fan your legs as wide as you can. As if you were doing the splits in the air." He instructs. By the time we were finished at the foam pits the place had cleared out quite a bit. Most of the parents had gathered their children and herded them out the door. Only a few groups of people remain.

"I'll try my best. Let me practice a few times first."

"That'll be great. I can get a few test shots which will show me what I need to tweak." I lift myself onto the long stretch of trampoline. Standing, I look down at the three men who are left free to help me flip. They glance between each other before Will shrugs and follows me up.

"Since I helped you the first time I don't see why I shouldn't do it again." Letting my hair down, I whip and fluff it around to get the crease of the hair tie out of it. I'm sure it'll be hard to tell it's even there when I'm hanging upside down.

We try a good dozen times. Devin points out a few things he wants me to change and also fiddles with his camera now and then. When he's looking down at the camera his brow crinkles in concentration. I can see his lips moving but don't hear anything. He must be talking to himself softly.

"What the heck are you guys doing?" Susie's gentle asks. I look over to see her fast walking toward us. She's in dark purple leggings and a grey t-shirt. Even though she's in workout clothes her hair is curled nicely with makeup on to enhance her features. It's light enough that it's hard to tell she's wearing any.

"Impromptu photo shoot. We're only practicing right now but I think I'm ready if you've adjusted everything you need to?" While we pause to welcome Susie I wipe my brow of sweat. Coming here is a great workout. If it weren't so expensive I'd come every day to use this place like a gym. I bet I burned a ton of calories today!

Devin looks to press a few more buttons before letting us know that he's ready to go. Now it's but to me to point my toes and not flail my arms out in odd angles. Off to the side, I hear Rye explaining what we're doing in more detail.

I set my foot in my brother's hand one last time. We count together and he pushes me up into the hair when we reach three. For what might be the last time I feel the wind rush past my face. My body is weightless and I hang in the hair for a few seconds. The feeling is almost freeing in a strange way.

"That's it. That's the one." He smiles down at his camera then looks up at me with that same smile. I can't help but smile back at him.

"I want to see." I hop off of the ledge of the trampoline and rush over to him. Standing on my tiptoes, I lean over his shoulder to see the camera. My hands hold onto his shoulder for balance to help me not tip over.

On the bright screen is the image he captured of me in mid flip. My long curls hang to the ground with stray strands going every which way. Both of my legs are as far apart as I could get them. It's not a split but more of a very wide V and like Devin requested my feet are pointed making my legs look even longer. By some miracle, I managed to keep my arms mostly by my sides instead of flailing outward at some strange angle.

"Wow, that looks great," I say to him as I take in the photo. He's somehow changed the settings to lower the lighting. It almost makes it so my body looks like a silhouette.

"I'll download it onto my computer later tonight to edit some of it a bit more. I think that this was a very successful first photoshoot. You did amazing, Letty. Thank you." He looks over at me as he speaks which brings our faces inches away from each other. It's much too close for us to be but I make no move to step away. Neither does he.

"I'm just glad that everything went so well and that I didn't end up breaking anything." We chuckle softly with one another. I stare into his eyes for a little while longer. Sighing, I move back to put the needed space between us.

Feeling eyes on me, I glance over to Jackson who's looking at the two of us peculiarly. I look away and go over to Susie. She's chatting with Rye about her horrific date from this morning. I join in on the conversation. It sounds like she just started telling him all about it so I haven't missed much.

Apparently, the guy was giving her real serial killer vibes. Even though Susie loves listening to her crime stories and watching those documentary TV shows she doesn't want to be in one of them someday.

"I told you if you ever felt uncomfortable while you were on one of those dates to give me a call," I tell her sternly. She has a few online dating accounts and I've always been worried about her meeting up with these men. I know the websites do background checks to prevent anyone with sketchy backgrounds being able to make accounts but I still worry. She's not the only one who listens to crime stories. I've heard a few that had to do with online dating apps and I've been paranoid about it ever since.

"The date didn't start badly. It was about twenty minutes into it that he started asking me some really strange questions. He also began to twitch really badly." She explains to us.

"Maybe he had too much caffeine." Rye tries to offer in explanation.

"Whatever he had going on it made me super uncomfortable. I was about to send you a text when my phone went off and I had gotten a message from you. The timing was perfect! You saved me from having to come up with some crazy excuse or having to use the old go to the bathroom then run out the backdoor trick."

"Who's up for some trampoline dodgeball?" Will asks us all. We all go to the setup area and each grab a ball. While we walk over Susie finishes up telling us about the weird questions her date started asking her. It sounds like she dodged a bullet with that one.

"Three against three? Boys versus girls." I suggest and give Rye a playful wink.

"And I'm the prettiest girl here." He sasses back.

"This gives me the perfect excuse to chuck a ball at Devin's face," I say with an amused grin.

"Anything but the face, okay. That's my moneymaker." Laughing we split to separate sides of the trampoline. As a group, we count down to three and shout go. Balls start whizzing around. Ducking and rolling I manage to dodge the ones my brothers send my way. Of course, they want to target their baby sister.

Having the trampoline to jump around on makes this a lot more interesting. Not only because it adds to the fun but it makes it harder to move around with all of us moving about. When I see an opportunity I throw my ball at Devin. I wasn't lying when I said I would use this to throw a ball at him but I did listen to his request not to throw it at his face.

The ball bounces off his ass. It wasn't where I was aiming but it works. Since there are so few of us we don't stop playing when one of us gets hit. We keep playing and targeting one another. Bodies roll, fall, and jump to avoid getting hit. I don't know how long we play for but my growling stomach lets me know my time has come to an end.

"Alright guys, I'm going to call it. I'm starving." Sweaty and exhausted I toss my ball to an empty spot where it rolls away. I breathe in through my nose and out through my mouth to try to even out my breathing. It sounds like I need an inhaler.

"Oh man, a burger sounds good right now," Devin says, patting his flat stomach. I glare at him enviously. The guy probably eats whatever he wants and doesn't have to worry about gaining an ounce of fat. I on the other hand can smell fresh baked cookies and gain five pounds. Sadly, I was not blessed with a fast metabolism like certain people.

"That doesn't sound good. You boys can go eat your greasy diner food. Susie, Rye, and I are going to go somewhere where we can get a nice bottle of wine and an assortment of things to share."

"Your loss," Jackson says as he runs past me toward the exit.

We all go to the lockers to gather our things. Devin runs to the bathroom to change back into his clothes. It looks like we've cleared out the place. Only a few people are still lingering around. When Devin returns our small group exits the building and walks to the parking lot.

My brothers get off at the second floor with plans to meet Devin at some burger joint. Rye, Devin, and I get off on the same floor. I'm going to ride with Rye but it turns out he parked on the same floor as Devin. Susie parked up the furthest and stays on the elevator.

The three of us walk down the quiet lot to the cars. We reach Devins first and I pause for a moment to talk to him. Rye catches my eye and nods his head in understanding. He keeps walking to his car to give us a minute. Devin places his things in the locker in his trunk then faces me when he's done.

"I wanted to say thank you. For getting me out of the house and taking me here today. I had a lot of fun. Until you stopped by this morning I had no idea what I was going to do today."

"You're welcome. I had a lot of fun too. If you ever need someone to spend the day with don't hesitate to give me a call. I'll always have free time for you, Letty." He says, giving me a gentle smile as he looks down at me.

Before I can overthink my actions I wrap my arms around him for a hug. My head rests on his firm chest where I can hear his heart beating. For a moment, he stills. Then he slowly brings his arms up to wrap around. The muscles in his back flex slightly as he squeezes me tight against him.

"Stop by the office on Monday. I'll show you around the building." I say softly as we embrace.

"I'll see you then. Enjoy your dinner." He lowers his arms and movies back.

"See you then, sweetheart." I wave goodbye and join Rye. Leaving Devin behind to join my friends for much-needed girl talk.
