4: lust
Sooner than most nights that I've encountered up in the human land, morning came and the warmth of the sunlight was already hitting my back's bare skin. It took me a few seconds for my mind to register my entire body. I felt sore from last night, and yet I didn't feel that much of the blood thirst I'd get in the morning.
My hands began to twitch just a bit and I felt the warmth of a chest adorned with a light layer of chest hair.
Oh god!
My eyes literally flew open and I sat up from the bed. Clutching the light silk sheets pulling them above my exposed chest. My lips started to tremble as I looked from Garret's exposed neck all the way down to as far as I could.
There was the two puncture holes from my fangs but there was no mistaking it, he was breathing and he was alive.
I couldn't possibly understand what was going on, I mean last night I fed from him. He wasn't suppose to be alive and yet here he was breathing!
"Thank God." I breathed in relief as I laid back on the bed. I did one good thing last night. That one out of everyone that survived me.
"Nope it's just me." I look up and see Garret's gray blue yes looking at me with some form of hidden smugness.
"Wow, you are much better when you don't talk." Rolling my eyes I sit up from the bed again and looked over at the alarm clock residing on his bedside. It's seven in the morning and I still need to figure out a way to find Cya.
Just when I tried to make a move away from the bed his arms just snakes themselves around my waist and pull me back over to his side.
"Mmm don't move it's too early to get up." Wow if it weren't for the fact that last night he showed me his ID, I would've thought this idiot was acting like a teenager. It was just... well it was my first one night stand. I don't feel... well I'm not as clingy as this guy.
"Let go of me, do I look like a body pillow to you?" My tone was slightly annoyed but it was just because I've never been this restrain towards someone. Again I make my little attempt to get free from him but his grip was strong. Even as I tried using my supernatural strength on him, it was of no use.
"Well I thought since you fed from me last night, the least you can do was be my pillow until I woke up." Instantly my body froze and I didn't know how to react. He knew and there was no possible we he'd kiss and tell.
My worries from last night were coming back and this time I desperately tried pushing him off of me. His body tensed up and his arms released me. I scrambled away from him but the stupid sheets practically became my disadvantage as my legs got tangled and I couldn't get off the bed.
"How the hell are you still alive!" I muttered to him, my hands were still clenched on the sheets wanting to at least cover myself.
"Well its not my first time that I encountered a vampire. It is my job to hunt them down." His casual tone to the word hunt sent a cold shiver down my spine. My eyes widen as he slips out of the bed and puts on some pants. My eyes wander once more towards the room and sure enough there's a desk at the far end of room with displayed guns and knives.
"You're a vampire hunter." My voice was barely audible my blue eyes looking back to lock with his silver amused gaze.
"Bingo." He chirped and went over to his desk and picked up a small 9mm.
"Us meeting at the beach party. It wasn't a coincidence was it." My brain was in total flight or fight reaction. But the way I see it, I wasn't going to come out of here alive.
"No, I tracked down your feeding routine and I knew you were going to be beautiful considering that all of your food was male and had a nasty background to them." He said looking over at me, but there was absolutely no humor behind his eyes.
"Why did you survive my attack?" I said forcing myself to not look at his gun. I didn't want anything to scare me more, the last thing I want was to give this jackass the satisfaction of seeing me squirm.
"It's a trick I learned in vampire hunting school. The only way we learned to survive the things we hunt." Him referring me to an it hurt a lot more than I thought.
"So before you offed me you thought it was a nice screw you move to take my virginity." I said my tone being slightly bitter. It did suck that I gave me virginity to a scum bag that was going to kill me in the end.
"Actually I was oddly surprised to see that you were still a virgin. Usually vixens such as yourself tend to be more lustful than any other normal vampires." That's when I saw a slim flicker of interest cross across his cold demeanor.
"Vixen?" I asked without really meaning to but that only made Garrett wonder about me more.
"They're female high level vampires. They're a true rare phenomenon in the vampire community. Usually there's one vixen for every head of the royal family. But as I tried finding you, I realized that you aren't a regular vampire." My body began to freeze again. If he knew that I was half mermaid he'd probably take me back to his hunter buddies and study me.
"So what are you going to do to me?" I said to him trying to come up with a plan to get out.
"Isn't it obvious?" He smirked at me and I wanted to rip his heart out. My eyes turned to their light hue of red as I clenched my jaw.
"Not really, you screwed me and are talking to me. I'm very foggy with the mix messages you're sending me here." I hissed at him. He shook his head and walked towards me, holding his gun closely. I seriously thought this was the end of me when something crashed through the window and smoke literally exploded around us. I could feel a cold hand grab onto me and start pulling me off of the bed.
I could hear Garrett's coughing but honestly if he died of suffocation right now it would be a plus. I let go of the sheets and followed the pull towards the window. The sun was very bright. Brighter than usual for some reason.
"Aqua hey you okay?" I hear Cya's voice shaking me back away from this bright haze as I looked over at her. She was already slipping on me some light dress. This is one of the things I loved from her, she saves me from being bare.
"We got to get out of here." I say to her urgently and she doesn't even let me explain to her. She already grabs onto my hand and pulls me away from the beach house. We were running back towards the sea, our safe haven at this moment.
"Vampire hunters, I cannot believe this. That's the last thing you need at this moment." I could hear Cya hiss under her breath. Wait was that other guy one of the vampire hunters too!
We finally made it to the beach and Cya wasted no time but to dive right in. By the third second I could already see her fish tail slipping through the water. But something strange happened to me, I was already waist deep into the water and my body wasn't responding.
I could still feel and see my two human legs, I couldn't shift into my human form. My breathing started to accelerate as I tried so hard to swim and think mermaid. But I couldn't. Not even when I dived into the water could I breathe underwater.
What's going on with me!
Suddenly I feel something cold and metal like cuff around my ankle. Then without warning I was being pulled back onto the shore. I tried calling out to Cya but every time I opened my mouth water filled in. I struggled against the grip but it was too late I couldn't get free from being fished.
Someone finally grabs my waist and pulls me out of the water and throws me down on the beach. I was coughing out water as I tried to not panic at this precise moment.
"Hey hey what the hell were you thinking." I feel someone help me up and let me start breathing back to normal. But my mind was still in the state of rushing panic.
"I can't change. Oh my God I can't change." I start stammering, my mind going back to my kingdom. My mother's people, my people. I can't turn into my mermaid form.
"Marina! look at me." I feel someone cup my face and forced me to look up and see those concerned silver eyes. My pupils were dilated and I just couldn't calm down.
"Marina everything is going to be okay." Those words brought me back to the reality that a hunter was telling me that!
"Don't you dare say that to me!" I growled and smacked him away from me. I turned around and tried scrambling in the sand. My feet felt wobbily and weren't really listening to me.
"Marina, wait." He kept on beckoning me.
"Don't call me that!" I growled and literally grabbed a fistful of sand and threw it at him. He closed his eyes and took it in. As I kept on kicking and throwing sand at him, I couldn't stop feeling so distraught.
"Marina."
"Stop it!" I cried, as my hands grew heavy and I couldn't fight him. I didn't have any power nor strength to fight back. Not only did I lose my parents. Now I lost any connection I had with my mom, being a mermaid was the only thing that helped me think that we were connected.
"Marina..." Garrett whispered to me.
"Shut up!" I cried out feeling my tears bursting out, realizing that I was alone again. Cya swam away thinking that I was right behind her. My dad is gone going out for an endless revenge. Now I'm being hunted.
Suddenly I feel strong arms wrap themselves around me as I cried. I thought he was going to kill me, but being this nice only made me feel more helpless . Did he enjoy trying to comfort me when he has my life in his hands. My pride was strong but my will was crumbled.
"Only my dad called me that." I whispered to him as I cried and listened to rush of the waves mixed it with my wails. What a great way to vent right before I get killed by his hands
