🌌 Interview 1 🌌
Our former interviewer, Maggie, sat down and had a good chat with Wattpader JabreelWilson
A writer with over 35+ years of writing experience and tons of book.
Thank you Jabreel for sharing with us and our readers your journey as a writer and your point of view of the Writing World.
____________________________________________________________________
Hey, I am your interviewer Maggie! Let's start with a simple game, shall we?
Ok
I'll write a few words and then you write down the first thing which comes to your mind.
First Word: Art
What the first thing that comes to mind?
I am art
Self love, great way to start off an interview!
Writing as well
So, writing is a form of art for you?
Yes
Can't disagree there, But Art reminds me of well- oil paintings...
I understand,I do love Van Gogh myself
Next word: Fame
Definitely not worth your soul
Fair enough
What do " words" remind you of?
Words remind me of influence and power, the ability to provoke emotion and start the conversation.
Which one do you prefer, pen or quill?
Pen. Its been told to me by thousands of people that I put a quill to shame with my killer ink
Of course you have, your writing is phenomenal after all ....
⚘
About pens, what do you think about the phrase "A pen is mightier than a sword"
A pen is mightier than a sword because ink lasts longer than blood.
I'm not very philosophical myself, but that sure does sounds deep so I'll nod along .
Now, let's move on to some questions about you.
Shoot
I have never really talked to a person like you, writing for 35+ years, so excuse me if I seem ignorant.
Thank you.
Clearly, you faced criticism or some kind of demotivation, how did you cope up with that?
Or even writers block in general?
I never experienced writer's block. I've written over 300 books in twenty years. I'm always inspired. As far as criticism. I take it with a grain of salt. Not everyone is going to like what you write, so I write to express myself.
I cope with demotivating by writing. If I think it, I write it. My thoughts are my best friends.
I also read a lot of books. I rarely watch TV. Reading keeps me abreast with the world and sharpens my skills.
That's something new and extremely true too. There are always going to be haters, and we will always have to deal with that.
I deal with it by writing another book. Eventually, your haters become your biggest supporters. A hater is just an in the closet fan that is in denial about loving your work.
That's an optimistic way of looking at. Some haters seriously give you too much attention!
Right, but what about now? The world is trapped inside so you can't really go out to buy books very often, have you stocked up or....?
They have ebooks. Plus I wrote 65 books since Quarantine. And I order books on Amazon or Barnes and Noble at the click of a button. Fed Ex brings them right to your door. Goodbye Lockdown! Hello Mr Delivery Man!
Well I completely forgot about that- Ooops..
What do you hate most about writing? What's the hardest part? Do you think other authors out there might struggle a lot in?
I love writing too much to hate it. I hate all the proofreading. That's about it. For me writing is like breathing: it comes naturally. I have no idea what other authors struggle with lol.
I'm 43 years old. It was a journey learning to love myself. So no, I am who I am and what I am. Period, the end, next paragraph lol.
I can definitely relate to absolutely loathing proofreading and editing too, pain in the bottom.
So, Jabreel, Who is your mentor or idol, who inspired you to write?
Or is it a what?
My mentor is the late New York Times Bestselling author E. Lynn Harris
I don't have false idols.
As I said before, I am definitely not as educated as you so forgive me for not recognising your idol is, I will definitely search them up though. Anyone else?
My grandfather inspired me to write when I was 6 years old. He was a retired Master Sergeant of the Airforce that loved reading. I remember being jealous of a book he was reading because the book got more attention than I did and cut into our fishing trip.
I said, "Pop if I write a book...would you read it?" He looked up from the book, took the Cat in the Hat from my hands, threw it across the room, sat me in his lap and gave me National Geographic magazine and read it with me.
He subscribed to Reader's Digest and Writer's Digest and National Geographic mag in my name and I read every single National Geographic mag, cover to cover, from age 6 to age 17.
It's like he knew my purpose and my destiny. Now my books are on his bookshelf. Full circle moment
Holy mother of God. I love that!
How would you describe your journey/progress as a writer?
My progress as a writer is being able to write my best book. My next book is always my best book.
Thank you
What your favourite book and why?
My favourite book is Sista Soulja's THE COLDEST WINTER EVER and Sidney Sheldon's MASTER OF THE GAME. They are my favourites because the books, the gruesome, no-nonsense storylines taught me to be daring, break all the rules and write unapologetically.
What genre?
Romance, mystery, thriller
Great, sounds highly interesting!
We'll be ending this session with one last question!
Ok
How did you come up with the plot of your book? What inspired you?
From living life. The things I see going on around me. It's like images enter my eyes and my thoughts of life flow from my ink onto the page and develop itself. I'm inspired by the good, the bad and the ugly of life, failure and experiences.
I write gritty stories with a message to raise awareness and to inspire others
That's beautiful Jabreel, we really appreciate the honesty!
Thank you for working with us! Hope you enjoyed it!Would like to say a few words about us?
Thank you for having me
I greatly appreciate it
Thank you, once again. I'll take my leave now....
Ok, my friend!
