21. Don't Close Your Heart
Later on in the day, after she began to feel better, Aria had realized that she hadn't
talked to Chloe for quite some, time. She felt awful for it, considering she was her best friend and deserved to know what was going on, and, since Aria hadn't been home to answer the phone, she knew Chloe was probably a little worried.
Ville had just sat down on the couch again after heading outside for a cigarette, and Aria looked at her hands for a moment, before looking up at him.
"Ville?" She Asked quietly, her voice still weak from crying earlier.
"Yes, my love?" Ville Asked, looking at her with concern still filling his emerald eyes.
She bit her lip a little, reaching up and running a hand through her hair. "Do you mind if I use your phone?" She Asked. "I haven't talked to Chloe in forever, and.."
Ville gave her a warm smile. "Love, you don't have to ask." He interrupted. "Use anything you need."
She smiled a little, bringing herself to her feet. "Thank you." She Said quietly.
Ville smiled a bit, nodding.
Aria made her way into the kitchen, where the phone sat. She picked it up, reciting Chloe's number in her head as she dialed it.
It rang a few times, and Aria shifted her stance a bit impatiently. If Chloe didn't answer, she'd be disappointed since she was really hoping to speak with her.
It had been far too long since she had heard her friend's voice.
After ringing a couple more times, she was happy to hear just that.
"Hello?"
Aria smiled, biting her lip. "Hey, Chloe." She Said. "It's me, Aria."
"Aria?" Chloe Asked, almost gasping. "Where the hell are you, girl? You've had me worried sick. I went to your apartment, and it was trashed, and you weren't there.."
"Listen, Chloe," Aria interrupted. "There was an incident with my father."
"Are you okay? Are you safe?" Chloe Asked worriedly. "Where are you?"
"I'm safe, don't worry." Aria reassured her. "I'm at Ville's."
"Ville's?" Chloe Asked. "You've made up, I take it?"
Aria nodded, though she knew Chloe couldn't see it. "Yeah...about that.." she mumbled. "I think...we're...a thing.."
"You guys are together?" Aria could hear the excitement in Chloe's voice. "Finally! I knew it would happen!"
Aria laughed a little.
"Tell me, Aria," Chloe Said, suddenly sounding serious. "Have you guys kissed?"
"Yes." Aria giggled. "A lot."
Chloe let out a small squeal. "This is so good!" She Exclaimed. "You'll be happy, I know you will!"
"I already am." Aria smiled to herself, glancing over at Ville who was sitting on the couch and reading a book. "I feel so...so lucky to have him."
"You are." Chloe sighed dreamily. "I'm really happy for you, Aria."
"Thank you." Aria said. "I mean, for everything. You've been a great friend. I'm sorry for worrying you."
"It's alright, love." Chloe Said. "I'm just glad you're safe. How's Ville taking everything?"
"What do you mean?" Aria asked, walking over and sitting down at the counter.
"I mean the stuff with your dad." Chloe Explained. "How's he handling it?"
Aria laughed a little. "He's very protective of me," She Said, then bit her lip at she looking up at Ville again. "But I can tell he really wants me safe...we're just gonna stay here a while, lay low for a bit, you know?"
"Yeah." Chloe Said. "If you need anything, I'm here. Maybe Mr. Valo will let me visit?"
Aria smiled. "I'm sure he'd be more than happy to have you over."
"Awesome." Chloe Said. "I'm sorry to cut it short, but I should go. Jakob and I have a date tonight, I need to get ready."
"Okay," Aria said. "I hope you have fun tonight."
"Love you, girl." Chloe Said. "Stay safe, okay? Call if you need me."
"I will. Love you, too." Aria said. "Bye."
"Bye!"
Chloe hung up, and Aria stood, going over and putting the phone back.
She felt a lot better now that she had told Aria about everything that had happened since the last time they spoke. She realized it had been a really Long time, and they still would have a lot to catch up on. It would be nice to catch up in person, if Ville was okay with her dropping by sometime soon.
She glanced back at Ville, who seemed very intrigued with his book, and smiled a little.
She really was lucky, wasn't she?
