1. Venus Doom
Watch me fall for you, my Venus Doom.
Finland.
Her friends questioned why she even considered moving to such a place. Her family begged her to stay in the United States. What was the point of leaving when she had everything, and everyone, back home?
Home just didn't feel like home anymore, especially since Aria's father began to abuse her. She decided to follow her dreams, and get away from there.
Her dream had always been to travel, to see the world, and experience new things. And visiting Finland was at the top of her list. Instead of just visiting, though, she decided to make it permanent.
All she needed in Helsinki was a fresh start. And that was exactly what she had gotten so far.
At the time, Aria sat in a small library, sitting at a table while reading from one of her favorite writers, Edger Allen Poe.
"Aria," she heard, and lifted her head.
A young woman walked over, sitting at the table across from her. Aria's lips curled into a small smile.
"Hello, Chloe," She Said cheerfully. "I didn't expect to see you here."
Chloe rolled her eyes. "This is the last place I'd expect to see myself in." She Said, lifing up a book from the table. "You know I don't read."
"And I've never understood why." Aria chuckled.
Chloe was a friend that Aria had made within the two months of being in Finland. They had met in a cafe where Chloe was working, and hit it off quite quickly. They didn't have much in common, but that made it more interesting. Just like they say, Opposites attract.
"Anyways, what's that you're reading?" Chloe Asked, pointing at Aria's book.
"Edger Allen Poe." Aria smiled.
"Hm...don't know if I've heard of him."
"You're kidding, right?" Aria Asked, shocked that she didn't even know who Edger Allen Poe was.
"Yes, of course I'm kidding." Chloe laughed. "Do you really think I'm that idiotic?"
"No, of course not." Aria Said. "I just take everyone seriously."
"Clearly." She gazed out the window next to the table, and smiled. "Are you still enjoying Finland?"
Aria smiled. "Yes."
"Winter will be beginning soon." Chloe Said, looking back at Aria. "Typically, it would've started by now."
"November here is gorgeous." Aria breathed, now gazing out the window as Chloe had been. "It's just...so much better than where I used to live."
"I've never been to the United States.." Chloe Said. "What's it like?"
Aria pretended to think for a moment, then her lips curled into a smile. "Boring."
"Oh, come on," Chloe laughed. "Give me more than that."
"Fine," Aria Said. "There's a constant fight between people who vote for different presidents."
"That happens everywhere." Chloe Said.
Aria shook her head. "In the USA it's so awful." She Said. "And to think all of our problems would be solved if we just had more love."
Chloe smiled and batted her eyelashes in a mocking manner. "Love is the answer to everything."
"Well, not everything." Aria Said.
"Speaking of love.." Chloe smiled at Aria, who rolled her eyes.
"Not yet." Aria sighed.
"Come on, you've been here for a full two months." Chloe Said. "You haven't found anyone?"
Aria laughed. "Two months isn't that long."
"But you're lonely." Chloe Said. "You need someone in your life."
"Believe me, Chloe," Aria Said. "I'm fine."
"Hey, I have an idea." Chloe Said, ignoring Aria. "There's a concert tonight at the cafe. Why don't you come?"
"I don't know.." Aria Said. "I'm not that into concerts."
"What?" Chloe Asked, tilting her head.
"I'm afraid of mosh pits." She Said, shrugging.
Chloe laughed. "It's in a cafe." She Said. "I'd be surprised if ten people show, honestly."
Aria bit her lip.
"Please," Chloe begged. "I'll never ask you for anything, ever again."
Aria sighed. "Fine, if it makes you happy."
"Yes!" Chloe Exclaimed. "See you tonight at eight!"
She stood and made her wash to the door, before stepping out of the library, as Aria shook her head, chuckling a bit.
Complete opposites.
After about fifteen more minutes of reading, Aria stood, and, deciding she wanted to check out the book she was reading, she walked up to the front desk. After she finished checking out the book, she stepped out of the library, taking a deep breath of the fresh autumn air.
As she walked down the sidewalk, orange leaves fell around her, crunching beneath her feet. She looked down at her book, gently touching the soft leather cover. She couldn't wait to read more of the poems, though she had read them all before. To her, they never quite lost their magic.
She opened up her bag which hung on her shoulders, and slipped the book in, closing it afterwords.
She approached a crosswalk, looking both ways, and, seeing that there were no cars coming, she began to cross.
She didn't notice, however, that there in fact was a car coming down the street, and the driver didn't even see her.
She turned her head at the last second, seeing the car barreling towards her, and hearing a loud horn.
The only thing on her mind was death in that split second. Her life didn't flash before her eyes like she was told it would, but she did think of her friends, her mom, and her sister.
She left them for Finland, and now she would be leaving them For good.
Just moments before the car hit her, though, something else hit her, knocking her to the ground.
She heard a quiet groan, then a, "Are you alright?"
She opened her eyes, seeing a pale man above her.
"What happened..?" She Asked drowsily.
The man chuckled a bit. "You should start looking both ways before crossing the street."
She sat up, looking around her. "I...was a second away from dying.." she said, looking at the man. "You saved me.." She saw blood seeping from the sleeve of his shirt, and gasped. "You're bleeding!"
He looked at his arm. "Oh." He said. "Don't worry, I'm alright. Are you?"
"I think so.." She Said, looking herself over a bit. "Thank you.."
He shrugged. "No problem." He said, smiling a bit.
Aria's breath hitched in her throat as she smiled back. "May I ask your name?"
"Ville." He said. "May I ask Yours?"
"Aria." She Replied. "Thank you for saving me, Ville."
"My pleasure, Aria."
A shiver rolled up her spine. The way he said her name, the way it rolled off of his tongue, she couldn't quite describe it, other than gorgeous. He was gorgeous.
Ville bit his lip, laughing a bit, breaking Aria out of her thoughts.
"What is it?" She Asked, wondering what he had found funny.
"I've realized we're still sitting in the middle of the street." He said. "Let me help you up."
He stood up and held out his hand, to which she hesitated at first, then took. He helped her up, and she brushed herself off.
"I still can't believe I'm alive.." she said.
"Believe me, You have a lot of life ahead of you." He said. "It would take something more than a car to steal that away."
She nodded. "I guess so.."
Ville smiled at her, then glanced behind him. "I'm very sorry," he said. "But now I must leave."
"Will I see you again?" Aria Asked, feeling a bit foolish afterwords.
"Actually, I'll be at the cafe tonight." He said. "Judging by the patch on your bag, I am guessing you know which cafe I mean?"
Aria looked down at her bag, chuckling a bit as she looked at the cafe logo patch.
"Yes." She Said. "I go there quite often. I'll be there tonight as well."
Ville smiled. "See you tonight, then?"
Aria smiled back. "See you tonight."
