✧Weight Room Mayhem✧
Chapter 30 ✧Weight Room Mayhem✧
"Charlotte!" I heard as soon as I began putting my locker combination in. I looked up wearily, not entirely sure why someone in the school would sound so eager to talk to me. But then I saw Malia rushing towards me with a paper in her hands, "Look! I got a C minus on my test! I passed!"
"Good job, Malia," I congratulated her softly, shooting the werecoyote a benevolent smile before turning back to my locker, "I guess Lydia's notes do work then."
Malia bobbed her head enthusiastically, "Their amazing when their not written in code. I can't wait to show her this."
My smile widened as I watched the jovial look on Malia's face brightened as she went off to find the strawberry blonde. She was definitely adapting to the life of a teenager pretty well, probably better than I have. And the fact that the deadpool was eliminated definitely helped ease the tension in our lives.
It was actually kind of weird not having to worry about assassins. Things were back to normal, or as normal as they can be in this town. Stiles was happy with Malia, Lydia was adapting to everything she has learned about herself, Derek was actually still alive, and Scott was planning on finally taking Kira on a date.
The only one whose life wasn't getting back on track was Liam's but I was going to help him. He was scared, I knew that much, and I finally had the time to devote myself to showing him that he didn't have to be scared to death of the supernatural anymore. Things just might be okay for all of us.
"Yo, Lahey!"
It was now Mason's turn to run up to my locker, though he looked a tad less enthusiastic than Malia had. Nonetheless, my friend smiled at me and I actually smiled back. For the first time in a really long time a produced a full-hearted and sincere smile without any prompting other than casual seeing a friend. It felt good and I could get used to it.
"Hey Mase," I greeted, still smiling and feeling a little proud of myself for doing so.
"So Liam and I were going to the weight room to lift weights and stuff, obviously, and since it's your free period I was wondering if you'd want to tag along," Mason offered.
"I don't lift weights," I told him, sounding a little bit more blunt than I had meant to.
Mason chuckled, rolling his eyes a little before saying, "Alright well you can still come along and talk to us. The other night was really fun when it was the three of us and, anyways, Liam seems like he needs some friends right now."
I sighed, nodding along to the last bit of Mason's statement, "That is definitely true."
"So you'll come then?" Mason inquired with a hopeful smile.
I nodded, "I don't really have anything better to do."
I walked along with Mason to the weight room, smiling to myself as I realized I really didn't have anything to do. I didn't have to worry about my friends dying anymore and that thought alone was incredibly comforting. Not only did our situation get better but I was getting better too and almost nothing could ruin that. Hopefully.
Once Mason and I walked into the weight room, Mason dropped his bags and walked over to Liam who was already putting weights on the bench press. I put my book bag down too, slipping my new sketchpad out of it before making my way over to my only two freshman friends.
"That's a lot of weight," Mason noted as Liam got ready to start his work out. I looked over to see what Liam planning on lifting truly was a lot of weight, even for a werewolf.
"I need to get ready for the game tomorrow," Liam told us.
"Need a spot?"
"No. Do you?"
I frowned at Liam but sat down on the unoccupied bench press a few spots down from him. With my legs crossed I watched as Mason look down at the weights he was lifting before looking back up to our friend.
"This is my warm-up." Mason told Liam as he gingerly put the weights back in their rightful spot. I shook my head as the two continued to work out while I began drawing. My hand began gliding across the page carelessly, sketching out something that I was hardly even paying attention to.
"Wait, what are you doing?" I heard Liam snap, causing me to look up from what I was drawing.
"He's just spotting you, Liam," I said softly, slightly baffled at myself for being able to recognize that that was what Mason had been doing. I was definitely spending way too much time with boys.
"I said I didn't need one."
"Are you kidding me?" Mason asked him in disbelief, "This is like three-hundred pounds, you're going to kill yourself."
Liam said nothing as he laid down on the bench. Mason and I exchanged a look of concern before we looked back to our friend who had his hands firmly wrapped around the cool metal of the bar. He then lifted the weight so he could bring it down to his chest. I found myself then holding my breath as Liam extended his arms completely, putting the weight back in it's place before sitting up and looking over to a shocked Mason.
"Do I look like I need help?"
Mason just shook his head silently, giving his best friend an annoyed expression. I sighed, knowing that things were unraveling right in front of me. Now that our supernatural problems were over with we were going to have to deal with the natural ones. Fun.
I stayed quite as Liam went back to his working out and I went back to drawing. Once I was finished shading in the side of a face I realized who's face I had actually drawn. Without even meaning to, the werejaguar form of Kate Argent was silently snarling at me from the paper in my hands.
Furrowing my eyebrows in confusion, I frowned down at my drawing. What had possessed me to draw Kate of all things? And what was even more alarming was the fact that I hadn't even realized I had drawn her until I had finished. Something was off here.
And as if to agree to my assumption that something wasn't right, I heard Liam groan out in pain. My head snapped up to see him struggling with the weights which now looked to be crushing him. Without a second thought, I tossed aside my sketch pad and rushed over to Liam to help him before realizing I was no good.
"Scott!" I yelled out instinctively, worry flooding through me as I stared at Liam struggling.
Just as tears began to swarm at the edges of my eyes, an unexpected arm reached around me and lifted the weight off of Liam. Liam quickly moved out from under the weights and collapsed to the floor between me and his savior, Scott McCall. I guess the true alpha had heard my plea for help.
I looked up to Scott and gave him a nod as a way of saying thanks before both of us knelt down next to Liam who was now spluttering out coughs and, understandably, trying to catch his breath again.
"Liam," Mason said, suddenly appearing behind Scott and I.
"I'm fine," Liam told him, sounding vaguely harsh and shrugging off my hand as I tried to put it on his shoulder to comfort him.
"If you don't want to be with us that's fine," Scott told him in a low whisper, "But don't push your friends away too."
Liam then looked over to me, finally looking me in the eye for the first time today. I forced a smiled onto my face, showing him that I was here for him. Liam nodded slowly at Scott before shrugging him off too and standing up.
"I have to go," Scott murmured from next to me as he too stood up.
"Have fun," I called after him gently, fully knowing that he was going to get Kira for the first official date.
Scott paused at the doorway and looked back at me with a sheepish smile and vague blush blossoming on his cheeks, "I'll try."
A smile easily spread across my face as Scott ducked out of the room with an annoyed looking Mason following him. I sighed, deciding to talk to Mason later before I turned my attention back to Liam.
For a second, we just stared at each other, neither of knowing what to say and still neither of us wanting to leave either. I felt my heart go out to Liam, it understood exactly how he felt. Finally, I stepped up to him and wrapped my arms around his torso, hugging him as tightly as I could as I rested my head on his shoulder.
Instantly, Liam wrapped his own arms around me and held me tightly against his chest. Despite him being a bit sweaty, I felt myself melt into Liam. His head rested on my own forehead and we just stood their for a while, not speaking but just embracing each other's essence, happy that we had the each other.
"Do you want to talk about it?" I questioned after we had stood in silence for a good while.
"No," Liam murmured into my hair blatantly.
I smiled slightly as I pulled away from the hug, "Well I'm here for you when you want to. And so is Mason, ya know?"
Liam nodded wordlessly as he looked down to the ground. Still with a vague smile on my face, I leaned up to kiss Liam lightly on the cheek, his eyes closing as I did so. Then I pulled away from Liam completely so I could retrieve my sketchpad. I quickly closed the cover on the eerie drawing of Kate Argent before grabbing my backpack and slipping it inside.
"I'll see you at the game tomorrow," I promised Liam before I too left the weight room.
