✧The New Derek✧

Chapter 2- ✧The New Derek✧

I had just gotten off the phone with Scott. He was mumbling things about how there trip to save Derek from Mexico was a bit more hectic then they'd expected and that he was going to be home a lot later then he'd originally thought. After making him promise that he'd tell me what was going on as soon as he got back, we hung up the phone. It was a bit lonely in this house without Isaac, Scott, or Ms.McCall. Of course Scott's father was just downstairs fixing up the house a bit but I wasn't comfortable around him. I guess it still takes me a while to trust adults, besides Mrs.McCall who has basically taken up the job of being my mother. Even when Isaac and I had lived with Derek for a while I wouldn't really leave my room. I was just too scared of the world outside those walls.

After I had been reading for about an hour, I realized how hungry I was. Remembering that I had made mac-n-cheese the other night and still had some leftovers in the fridge, I silently made my way downstairs. Since Scott wasn't home to eat it there was still plenty  left so I quickly put some in the microwave and pressed start. I stood there for awhile, tapping my fingers on  the counter as my food was reheated, until somebody cleared there throat somewhere behind me, causing me to jump and probably look like an idiot.

"Uh, sorry," Scott's dad said nervously, scratching the back of his neck as he probably felt bad for scaring me. He was just as uneasy around me as I was around him. I'd imagine it's because Mrs.McCall had told him of my past and how I was still a frightened little girl prone to anxiety attacks that I'm sure he was scared he would trigger. "Have you heard from Scott? I was planning on having dinner with him but it seems like that might not be happening."

"Oh, um, he said something about being a bit later then he'd thought," I explained in a quiet voice, never quite meeting the eyes of the FBI agent.

Mr.McCall nodded. "Okay, thanks."

He quickly exited the room and just as I felt myself relax again. And then the timer on the microwave went off which caused me to once again jump. I hate leaving my room, even if the reward involves food.

I sighed, hating myself for being stupid enough to be terrified of everything. I quickly nabbed my meal, found a spoon, and then rushed back into my room were I felt at least a little bit safe. Finally content with where I was, I sat down at my desk and began to draw. It was a talent I guess I had. Now I'm not amazing and I can't paint or anything like that but drawing has always helped calm me down. Dad had always called it a useless talent.

Eventually, I got too tired to even hold up a pencil anymore so I decided not to even bother to wait up for Scott and too just go to bed.

✧✧✧✧

By the time I woke up to go to school, Scott was home. Since he heard me coming down the stairs he even got me a bowl a cereal which I made sure to thank him for.

"So you want to know what's going on?" He asked as we both sat down to eat our breakfast. I looked around to make sure nobody was in the kitchen before nodding my head.

Scott immediately launched into this long, complicated explanation as to what happened to him and the others. First of all, the one's they thought had taken Derek were actually looking for him too. The person who had actually taken him was someone none of us had expected. Kate Argent. Now Kate happened before Isaac and I got involved in all of this but we'd heard plenty of stories of her.

"So, basically the Mexican version of the Argent's electrocuted you until you realized Kate Argent is actually alive, and then sent you out on an almost death mission in which you found Derek buried in a tomb with no signs of Kate? Nobody got maimed or killed? Seems like you and Stiles are loosing your touch," I said with a small smile. Scott smiled back at me but he looked a little surprised, it wasn't everyday I made an attempt at joking. But like I said, Scott is becoming like a brother to me and, from my experience, brothers are the one's you can trust up until the day they leave.

"Something like that," Scott nodded his head but I could tell he was holding something back, kind of like he was trying to decide how to tell me. "There's, uh, one more detail though. Derek is kind of sort of a teenager again."

I furrowed my eyebrows. "What are you talking about?"

"I'm not even sure," Scott admitted, "But somehow Kate turned Derek into his teenage self and now he has no memories or anything. It's really weird."

"Yeah, weird," I muttered. Weird is what you say when you swear you had a pencil but realize it's not where you thought it was. This, what we have to go through daily, is way beyond weird but I didn't point that out to Scott.

Soon I finished up my meal and was hopping into Stiles' jeep so he could drive me to school. Scott would always offer to take me on his motorcycle but I preferred the safety of a vehicle with a seat belt and a roof. Stiles didn't mind driving me so soon he had me at school and I was hurrying to my locker. Nobody really stopped me from doing the task since nobody wanted to talk to me. My friends were pretty much Scott, Stiles, and Isaac.

I quickly spun my locker until I heard a click, signaling that I was now free to open my locker. When I did I immediately saw the picture I had in there. It was of me and Isaac a few days before he left. There was a pain in my chest from me missing him but the joy of being able to see him, even if it was just in picture form, was far greater.

I never really minded school. Practically nobody new I existed which was how I preferred it to be. My grades tended to be good because if they weren't then I'd be giving yet another reason for bad to punish me. Normally I would just sit in the back of the class, occasionally talked to a couple of friends, and take notes. The only person I ever talked to in this class was Mason. And by talk to I mean we say hi to eachother and somethimes sit next to eachother. That is pretty impressive for me.

Today, though, my routine was disturbed when I got a text message from a certain strawberry blonde upperclassmen.

From: Lydia

I need you to find Scott and tell him to call me. It's about Derek.

I sighed before slowly raising my hand and forcing my teacher to acknowledge me for basically the first time all school year. I hated getting called out and I practically cringed in the anticipation of knowing that my teacher would be doing that very thing.

"Yes, Ms.Lahey?" The teacher said when she finally noticed my hand.

"May I please go to the bathroom?" I questioned in a small voice. Thankfully, most of my classmates did there work instead of looking at me.

The teacher nodded and I quickly ducked out of class. If I was correct then Scott would be in Social Studies right now, all I had to do was find that class. Praying that the door I had come to was the right one, I slowly peered into it. Thankfully, I saw Scott, Stiles, and a few other familiar faces.

"Um, Mr.Yukimura, Scott McCall needs to, well, call Lydia Martin as soon as he can," I manage to say even though I feel like all eyes are on me, the nervous little freshman.

Mr.Yukimura looked shocked but then quickly nodded his head. "Um, Okay. Thank you."

I gave Scott a urgent look so he'd hopefully understand that it's about Derek and then headed back to my own class. For the rest o the day I tried to keep my mind at ease and let the other's worry about the Derek Hale problem and whatever was going on with Kate. I decided to just put everything aside and concentrated on school instead of anything involving the supernatural. My plan actually worked really well up until I got to Stiles' jeep at the end of the day so he could drive me back home because in my seat sat a complete stranger.

"Stiles," I said, looking from the teenage boy that was in my seat to the pale teenage boy who had some serious explaining to do.

"Oh, right," Stiles looked up at me once he realized I had arrived and he smiled nervously. "So Char, this is Derek."

I stared wide eyed at 'Derek'. I knew Derek --I actually knew him very well seeing as I had lived with him for a while, he had practically saved me and my brother's lives-- and the kid infront of me was not the Derek I knew. Scott had not been kidding when he told me that Derek had gotten turned back into a teenager.

Young Derek smiled at me and raised his eyebrow, probably wondering why I was still staring at him.

"Oh, uh, Sorry. I'm Charlotte Lahey, by the way," I quickly stammered before jumping into the back of the jeep. The whole ride home I couldn't help but try figuring out how this had happened but I couldn't come up with a single explanation that was even semi decent.

"We're going to wait here for Scott. We're going to sit quietly. We're not going to call or talk to anyone." Stiles explained to Derek and I as we walked into the McCall household.

"Can I talk to her," Derek asked, pointing in my direction which caused Stiles to shake his head vigorously. Derek smiled slightly at this, obviously he was a lot more amused by Stiles then he'd normally let on. "Well can I talk to you?"

"No."

"Fine. Good." Derek said before looking to something else. "Then who's going to talk to him."

Stiles and I both jumped when we noticed Agent McCall standing in front of us with a bag of what looked like Chinese carry-out. This was going to be fun to explain to him.

"Ah!" Stiles exclaimed, "Are you getting taller?"

"What are you guys doing here?" He asked instead of even bothering with Stiles' question.

"We're waiting for Scott," Derek explained.

"Yeah, so am I, we were supposed to have dinner. I brought extra, are you guys hungry?"

"Yeah," Derek answered eagerly.

"No," Stiles said quickly, "None of us are hungry."

"No, I am," Derek corrected Stiles.

"Well if your not hungry, Stiles, your friend and Charlotte can still eat," Mr.McCall said before turning his attention back to Derek, "What's your name."

Derek opened his mouth to answer but Stiles quickly cut off, "Miguel. My,um, c-cousin, Miguel. From, uh Mexico so..."

Derek raised his eyebrows and smirked over at Stiles, once again amused by his idiocy. But before any of us teenagers could try escaping, Scott's dad began talking to Derek in Spanish. Stiles and I both exchanged wide-eyed looks, thinking that we were pretty much screwed. Then yet another thing took us by surprise, Derek responded in Spanish.

"Fantastic," Mr.McCall said, apparently Derek had passed his test. "Egg roll?"

Derek's smile only got bigger. "Hell yeah."

"Yeah fantastic," Stiles mumbled, nervously running his hands through his hair.

"Well you have fun with this, I'm going to do my homework and other things that don't involve de-aged werewolves," I whispered to Stiles before heading upstairs. Nobody tried stopping me which I was beyond thankful for, my anxiety would skyrocket in that mess.

Once I finally was in my room I took out my phone to make a call.

"Charlotte!" My brother's familiar voice excalimed when he answered his phone. I sighed happily, it was good to here his voice, and flopped down on my bed.

"Hey Isaac," I said back to him. Isaac is probably one of the only people that I can actually talk to with out feeling like I'm about to spontaniously combust. "How are things going for you?"

"I've been stuck inside for the most part because the weather's been so bad." I bit at my finger nail as I realized what he was doing. He was avoiding telling me whether or not he was okay because the truth was that he was fine with out me. I closed my eyes tightly and tried to ignore the fact that some of my worse fears were happening. "What about you? Is my little sister staying out of danger?"

"I've definitly been staying away from danger as best as I can," I confirmed shakily.

"Please tell me you haven't been sitting alone in your room? Have you hung out with friends?" These were the questions that Isaac wuld ask basically ever time we talked. He knew that without him I had close to no life.

"Well I kinda met someone new today, I guess," That's the truth, as long as young Derek is considered someone new.

"That's good," Isaac sounded happy for me. "So Lacrosse season is starting soon right?"

"Yeah. Scott and Stiles are trying out this week, I think."

"Hopefully Scott is still captain," Isaac said, he was just as loal to Scott as I was. "You know your probably going to have to go to Lacrosse practices and games again."

I shrugged my shoulders even though I knew there was no way my brother could see. "I don't really mind. Lacrosse is fun, I remember throwing the ball around with you and stuff. It's just all the people that are there that annoys me."

"Well maybe this year will be different." Isaac said with a hope-filled voice. "Look, I got to go Char but I'll talk to you soon. Go do your homework or something."

I laughed at my broter before sitting up in my bed. "I'll talk to you later Isaac."
