Chapter 8- ✧Not a Monster✧
I was more then eager to get out of Lydia's over crowded lake house. I never ever want to have to experience another party again. Never.
So instead of having to fight against my social anxiety, I ran through the woods. I don't exactly know what I was planning on doing but I knew I had to help Scott and Liam. Of course there was the chance that I would find Liam who was going out of control due to the full moon so he'd try to kill me but I was really hoping that wasn't going to be the outcome. Maybe I'll be able to talk Liam down or something, help him find an anchor. Or maybe I'll just be able to distract him long enough for Scott to find us. Seeing as Scott was the alpha he'd have a way better chance at taming Liam.
Eventually I saw a flash of lights through the branches of some tree's ahead of me. There's practically nothing else this deep in the woods so it had to be Scott or Liam --Or both. How they had manged to make a strange burst of lights I had no idea but it was currently my only lead. I quickly swallowed down the fear I had and pushed myself to keep running through the eerie woods.
I finally made it to where I had thought I'd seen the lights come from but there was nobody in sight. Leave it to me to screw up finding bright lights in the dark. May my uselessness always prevail.
Suddenly, I heard leaves crackling somewhere nearby. I strained my eyes only to see the outline of a masculine figure wielding a cross bow.
Chris Argent.
"Charlotte?" The familiar voice of Allison's father echoed through the darkness. He stepped closer so I could really see him which confirmed that it was definitely the one and only Chris Argent. He had a graying beard which made him resemble a mountain man, this was a new look for him. But behind the facial hair was his piercing blue eyes that held an intensity every hunter's eyes should have.
"Mr.Argent," I breathed out, relived to see someone who I wasn't afraid of. Don't get me wrong, Chris Argent was very deadly and very scary, but with everything else going on I trusted him more then feared him.
"What are you doing out here?" He asked me as he, thankfully, lowered his cross bow.
"Trying to find Liam," I told him, managing to talk in a voice that was actually audible before adding, "What are you doing here? I Isaac back too?"
He solemnly shook his head at my last question. "Isaac's still back in Europe but don't worry, he's fine. I came back because Scott asked for me help."
"You actually got his texts?" I questioned, managing to talk in a voice that was actually audible. Why Scott had text Argent instead of calling him, I''ll never know. Suddenly, I remembered the bright lights and remembered one of the many weapons hunter's would use against werewolves were like flash grenades. "Did you just fire one of those arrows that temporarily blind wolves?"
Chris quirked an eyebrow at me, probably because he was surprised I was willingly contributing to the conversation. "Yeah, I came across your Liam friend attacking Scott."
I cringed at his words, looks like Scott isn't having as much luck as I had hoped. The idea of a blood thirsty Liam attacking one of my only friends was enough to power through my paralyzing fear that always collected around me. I needed to find them; I needed to help them.
"Where are they now?" I asked the Hunter.
"I can probably show you," Chris answered as he turned around to start walking. I took this as a signal to follow him so I forced my much shorter legs to fall into place behind his.
Thankfully, Chris Argent wasn't much of a talker. We walked through the woods in silence which was actually music to my ears seeing as it was the completely opposite of the party. Also, I think I had my fill of talking to someone who I'm not used to. Especially adults. I've had my share of adults who've been less then trustworthy and, even though Chris doesn't fall into the category, I wasn't a fan of talking to them. Especially older men. They were one of the many things that were on my list of fears that had to be a mile long at this point.
It was almost to soon when we reached the edge of a clearing. I would've been disappointed the the peaceful--though, admittedly, slightly creepy-- walk in the woods had to be over if it hadn't ended with Scott and Liam finally being within sight. Things seemed to be under control as Liam was now trapped in a square of Ultrasonic emitters; Another lovely toy that Hunter's would use.
I moved to step out into the clearing but was stopped when Chris held an arm out in front of me. I instinctively flinched away from him which made me feel quite pathetic so I'm hoping Chris hadn't noticed.
I turned my eyes to Chris who held a finger up to his lips before motioning back to Scott. The true alpha was now allowing his eyes to blow there blood red color as Liam looked up at him from his postion on the ground. Liam actually didn't look as bad as I thought. If anything, the poor guy looked scared. Scott seemed to have everything under moderate control, I don't know why I had thought I'd be of use to him anyways.
Relief soon was washing through my mind as I noticed the sky slowly brightening up some. The night was almost over, Liam would soon be back to normal. Well, the new normal he was going to have to adapt too. He can do it though, I believe in him.
"What do we do?" I asked Chris in a low voice.
He looked at Scott with what seemed to be a proud smile before he looked down at me, "We wait. The sun should be rising soon."
I nodded in response before looking back at Scott and Liam. I'm not sure how long we were going to be waiting but I didn't really care. For once my anxiety wasn't sky rocketing. For the first time in my life, things seemed like they just might be okay.
At some point Scott noticed the two of us watching as he helped Liam. I gave him a small nodded to tell him he was doing amazing and he nodded back. Liam followed Scott's eyes until his own eyes also fell on me. I returned his gaze with a small smile of encouragement. I knew that did little to help but it was still helping.
After awhile the sun's light finally broke through the tree line. The night of the full moon was finally over and, personally, I felt physically and emotionally drained. But I pushed all of those feelings to the side to deal with later as I finally walked out into the clearing. With Scott's help, Liam made his way to his feet.
"How is he?" I asked once I reached the two teenage boys.
"I've been better," Liam mumbled. I cuaght his eyes once more that night and gave him yet another small smile. This time he returned it which seemed to take a bit of effort.
"We should get him back to Lydia's. Hopefully everyone else will be gone by now," Scott said which caused me to look away from Liam. I slowly nodded my head and we all made our way back up to the lake house. I can't explain how pleased I was when I noticed that none of the druken party-goers were still in sight.
We made it to threw the back door of the house in one peice and were quickly greeted by the pale sarcastic mess that was Stiles Stilinski.
"Scott, good, your back and alive," Stiles said thankfully before greeting the rest of us. Once everything that had happened was explained to Stiles, he nodded before a not very pleasant look fell over his face. "Well the full moon may be over but we still have some, well, problems. Scott, Mr. Argent, come with me if you will. And by will I mean you have to, like, now."
Stiles whisked away the Chris and Scott which left me to lead Liam to couch to sit down on. I'm sure he was relived to be able to relax and mull over all the hell he had just endured.
Liam bent over and put his head in his hands, he was obviously upset which was definitly understandable. I bit the inside of me cheek as I tried to figure what to do. Why was I left to be the one to console the newbie werewolf?
"Liam," I finally made myself say. Liam turned his head in his hands ever so slightly so he could see me out of the corner of his eye. "Are you okay."
Liam closed his eyes tightly before sitting back on the couch and letting out a quite, "No."
I turned my body so I was more facing Liam. "Your going to be okay."
"Will I?" Liam croaked out, not meeting my eyes as despair covered his face. He just looked so broken in that moment that I forgot that he was a cool new freshman that was awesome at lacrosse. To me, right now, he was just a kid that seemed to be as fragile as I was.
"Of course you will," I assured him but Liam practically rolled his eyes as me. "Liam it's normal to be afraid."
"Normal?" Liam said in what was close to a harsh laugh. "I'm not normal, I'm a monster!"
Knowing that him getting emotional would lead to a disaster, I quickly reached out to him and grabbed his hand, giving it a light squeeze.
"Hey, Liam, just breathe, okay?" I instructed him. Liam nodded slowly, looking at me with his crystal like blue eyes as he let a deep breathe. "I'll help you okay?"
We locked eyes an Liam concentrated on his breathing before he suddenly dropped my hand and looked at me in disbelief. "Why aren't you scared of me?"
His question hit me hard and I found myself at a loss for words, which wasn't to abnormal for me.
But there was one thing that was weird, something that was missing. My fear, the dread I felt weighing down on me on a daily basis.
I don't know when that last time I hadn't been scared was. I don't even think there's been a time in my life when I haven't been in fear of something. Right now I felt like a weight had been lifted off my chest and I was finally able to breathe.
"I'm not scared," I realized as I looked up at Liam with wide eyes, the state of feeling safe and content was so foriegn to me but it still felt strangly good.
"Why aren't you though?" Liam asked. "I'm a monster."
Liam's words quickly shook me out of the brief estasy I felt. I looked up at him and saw he truly meant the words he had just said.
"Do you really think that?" I asked him gently. Liam didn't answer and just looked down at the ground infront of us. "Liam, you're not a monster. Your a werewolf, just like Scott and my brother. I'm not scared of them and I'm not scared of you."
Slowly, Liam looked up at me once more. I reached out a cautious hand to him which caused him to stare at me, almost like he was studing me. Then he carefully took my hand in his and I couldn't help the smile that spread across me face.
Honestly, holding hands with someone is yet another foriegn feeling. I had many boundraies about touching other people, another thing I had gotten from dad. I just felt like a simple touch from anyone could turn violent quickly. It happened far to many times in my childhood.
But holding Liam's hand was okay becuase I really wasn't afraid. It looks like Liam just might be helping me just as much as I was trying to help him.
"Liam," I said quietly, which caused him to look at me. "The others and I, we're going to help you. You're going to make it through this, I promise."

Ugh this chapter blows, I know. It's choppy and poorly written but hey at least there's some Larlotte, right?
So guys, I'm back home meaning I can actually be productive. And by productive I mean I can sit on my butt and write again. I'm just living the dream baby.
Okay so I normally don't like when the two character's get together in the book but know that it wasn't a romantic gesture as much as a 'Hey we can get through this' gesture.
Question time- How did you like Larlotte holding hands and talking?
