Chapter 6
I almost dropped my phone in shock and turned behind to see him, Logan, my dad's friend. I had a million questions for him, starting with why he'd kill his own daughter. But before I could get another word in he spoke up.
"You kids shouldn't be here," He said trying his best to sound menacing, but didn't succeed.
"What are you doing here?" I squeaked. I was so scared, this place was probably his lair and he likely had weapons here which he was going to use to kill us.
The lights were turned on, and I covered my eyes with my hand. Apparently, Taylor had no problem seeing because she was standing in front of me with a pocket knife in hand the next thing I knew. Logan also took out a weapon, a gun!
I knew neither Taylor nor I stood a chance with a man with a gun. My legs were trembling in fear, I decided that I needed to do something, so I ran to the switches and turned the lights off. I tugged Taylor's shirt and pulled her out of the room.
"We have to get out of here!" I exclaimed. We both ran towards the door, followed by Logan.
I glanced back to see that he had abandoned his gun, so I stopped running and turned behind.
"Why did you kill Olivia?" I asked.
"What are you talking about?" He asked looking puzzled.
"Don't play dumb!" I yelled.
"I didn't kill anyone!" He said.
"Then why do you have a lair filled with weapons?" I asked.
"Forget you saw me here, or you'll regret it!" He said and left through the back exit.
I stood there not knowing what to do next.
"What should we do now?" I asked in a shaky voice.
"We call the cops on him of course," She said pulling her phone out of her pocket.
"No, don't do that," I said.
"Why not?" She asked looking frustrated.
"That man- Logan said we'd regret doing something like this," I said.
"You're not scared of him are you?" She asked. I didn't reply to that. The truth was, I wasn't scared of him, I'm sure the cops would arrest him when they found all the evidence we had, but I just didn't want it to end so quickly. I never thought we'd get so close to finding the killer so fast. At that moment I regretted ever coming here, ever bringing Taylor here.
"No Arya," She said "This is the right thing to do"
I tried convincing her otherwise but it was no use, she called the cops and we headed downstairs. I looked down nervously, unsure what to tell her. I was mad at her for not listening to me despite my protests, but she wasn't entirely in the wrong either. She wanted it to end, unlike me, and did the right thing.
Soon enough the cops arrived and everyone was made to evacuate. As I was leaving a cop stopped me.
"Wait, you're Arya right?" She asked.
"Yes," I mumbled.
She made me take her to Logan's lair and told me that I could leave and be called for questioning later.
"You can come over to my place if you want" Taylor offered.
"Sure," I said.
We got into a cab and drove away, we didn't speak much throughout the journey. When I entered her house I was stunned by its beauty.
It was a luxurious penthouse with nice decor.
"You can sleep here," She said pointing towards what I assumed was a guest room.
I nodded and entered the room, it was a beautiful room, with bow windows before which was the outstanding view. I adjusted the curtains before diving into the bed.
I woke up the next morning and smelt something delicious coming from the kitchen, so I headed there to check it out. And I found Taylor making pancakes. I sat down and started eating.
"So did they arrest Logan?" I asked.
"I don't know yet, the police didn't share anything with the public," She said before sitting down beside me.
I stared blankly at my plate, thinking about what would happen next, Logan would go to prison and there wouldn't be a serial killer anymore. Taylor grabbed the remote and kept changing from channel to channel when something caught my eye.
"Wait, go back," I said not taking my gaze off the television. She went back to the previous channel.
"Another murder?" She asked looking worried. "Guess they didn't catch that Logan guy"
I nodded agreeing with her.
"So what now?" I ask.
"I guess we let the cops do their thing and forget about this," She said.
"What if he comes after us for calling the cops?" I asked, taking a bite from my breakfast.
"Defend yourself, I guess," She said nonchalantly as if a serial killer couldn't come after us any minute.
"How are you so calm about this?" I asked.
"Well, I used to go for self-defence classes in high school, plus the cops are everywhere looking for him he's not stupid enough to attack," She said confidently "And I lock my doors before sleeping so there's no way he can get to me"
"I guess, maybe I should take those classes too," I said. I could really use them in case something happened.
"The classes shut down, they now turned it into a shopping complex," She said taking her plate to the dishwasher.
I didn't say anything, because there was nothing to say.
"I should get going," I said taking my bag from the couch.
"Ok, bye," She said.
I smiled and nodded at her and left.
I walked through the streets, checking out all the local stores because I didn't know what else to do. I sat on a bench holding my coffee in one hand and my phone in the other. I tried convincing myself that I wanted them to catch Logan.
But it wasn't, I wished he terrorized Ottawa for a little longer before it all ended. I wasn't sure why I felt this way, I never wanted to be a detective, and I still don't. My thoughts were cut short when I heard my phone beep.
It was an email, I opened it and almost fainted when I read the message.
"You ain't got that much time left"
Author's note: hey!! I know lame chapter -_- But from next time I won't have so much trash written haha. Also, Lovatic_HarryHook what do you think of the ending 😂
