Chapter 18
"Why did you wanna meet here?" A voice asked. I turned back and saw Ethan.
"It's so creepy" He continued.
"I just wanted to talk to you," I said "It's been a while"
"You wanted to talk about Olivia," He said with a raised eyebrow.
Oh no, he figured it out. I didn't know what to say, so I kept quiet.
"If you're here to talk about what an angel she was who could do no harm, then I'm sorry but I have better things to do," He said coldly.
I knew at that moment that I couldn't get information out of him without telling him the truth, I knew it was a big risk but Ethan was my friend, I could trust him.
"Ethan, wait!" I called out to him. He turned around waiting for me to say something.
"What I'm about to tell you has to stay between us," I said giving him a serious look.
"You can trust me," He said smiling charmingly.
I began to narrate the whole story, from when I found Olivia's body, to my apartment turning to ashes. He listened patiently, didn't interrupt me, and he finally spoke when I was done speaking.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" He asked out in anger, but I knew it was only a disguise for his worry.
"I had to do it for Olivia, she was murdered ruthlessly, this is the only justice I can offer her," I said justifying my actions.
"And now since you couldn't do anything, you want to drag me into this," He said showing a hint of annoyance.
"I've taken that into consideration," I said with my head high. "We're meeting here in secret, just give me the information I need, and I won't bother you"
"What makes you so sure that I have what you need?" He asked smirking.
"You're her brother, you have to know something I don't," I said hopefully.
"Look, I wouldn't get too involved in this if I were you," He said sighing. "Olivia got herself into some mess, couldn't get herself out and it eventually costed her life"
"What mess?" I asked my voice breaking.
"I don't know all the details, all I know is that it was something shady," He said shrugging.
"Please, you have to tell me what you know!" I said trying to make puppy eyes.
"I literally just did," He said in a matter-of-factly way.
"Go more in detail, it could help," I said innocently.
"She was a bit of a loner in high school, and tried too hard to fit in, but she couldn't. Halfway through the school year, her behaviour started to get strange. She was almost never at home, snuck in and out through the window. I suspected she was hanging out with the wrong crowd" He said trying to give as much detail as he could.
"Didn't your parents stop her?" I asked confused.
"They never really noticed, they were very busy with work back then" He explained. "I obviously noticed and asked her about it. She denied everything, not convinced by her explanation I followed her to some crematorium where she was drinking with a bunch of older men and women" He said.
"Crematorium?" I asked with a squeaky voice, finally understanding what happened.
"Those people pointed a gun at me, I freaked out and ran away and decided not to bother her cuz I didn't wanna die" He finished.
"Woah, I never thought Olivia of all people would be capable of something like this," I said disappointed.
"I gave you what you wanted, now I must leave," He said putting on his helmet.
"Can I get a ride to the hospital?"
"Hop on," He said with a grin.
He dropped me at the hospital and went to get himself a cup of coffee nearby. I went to Kaylee's room to tell her the info I had found. But she wasn't there!
"Nurse, where's the girl in this room?" I asked panicking.
"I don't know, probably the restroom," She said and walked off.
I could guarantee that this was C.A's doing, I was not letting her go after Kaylee! I rushed back down to see Ethan drinking coffee.
"Kaylee's missing!" I screamed.
"Who's Kaylee?" he asked his eyes fixated on the menu.
"A girl helping me solve the mystery, I think C.A took her!"
"Arya, we talked about this. You may have this undying love for Olivia that leads you to put yourself in danger, but I don't." Ethan said looking at me sternly. "Why don't you ask Taylor for help?"
"I don't where she is, it'll take too long to find her," I said. "Please help me"
"Look, I happily told you everything I know, I'd even dig through Olivia's room if you wanted, but I'm gonna have to draw the line between becoming another target of this killer"
"Ethan please, I have no one," I said trying to make him feel bad for me. He drank the rest of his coffee and got out of there quickly.
"Ethan, wait!" I said running after him. "You once told me you'd always be there for me, was it all just a lie?"
"That was before I know how crazy you could get" He snapped.
"If you were a true friend, you'd help me" I tried asking one last time.
"I'm only giving you a ride to wherever, after that, I'm out, ok?" He said glaring at me.
"Yes!" I exclaimed almost immediately.
"C.A's base is the crematorium, if Kaylee's anywhere, it'd be there" I explained.
"If C.A knows you know where the base is, she wouldn't hide Kaylee there," Ethan said not convinced.
"Usually, C.A leaves little notes, but there were none this time" I said rubbing my chin.
"Maybe Kaylee got scared and ran away, didn't tell you because she knew that you'd never let her go" He suggested. Those words were equivalent to a slap in the face. Why was he so mean?
"N-no, she promised, that she'd always stay by my side," I said in utter shock.
"Whatever it is, we'll handle it tomorrow," Ethan said going towards his bike. He turned back to me.
"Need a ride?"
I smirked and got on to his bike, it felt just like old times when we'd hang out behind Olivia's back. I felt like my old self again.
He dropped me off at a nearby hotel, I got off and went inside. I heard the sound of metal clanking and looked up to see a shiny metal bar above me.
It got closer and closer, my body froze not knowing what to do.
"Aahhh!"
Author's note: Hey! I was originally planning on keeping a flashback in this chapter, but I changed my mind. I'll keep it next week. Also, next week will be Taylor P.O.V so if you were interested in that then... Anyway, see ya later!
