Chapter 12
Woah, who could have sent this? Should I reply? I was so confused.
I decided to reply anyway, "Who is this?"
I put my phone aside as I started going through the books. I knew this was a huge task and would take a long time to finish, but if we could track down the killer, it'd be worth it.
Nothing caught my attention in the first few pages, just the football team, the cheerleaders and a bunch of irrelevant stuff. However, one picture suddenly caught my eye. It was one of a music class with all the students playing an instrument, but in the left corner of the image, I saw someone familiar.
I quickly grabbed my phone, took a picture of the picture and uploaded it to photoshop, I zoomed in and I was right! It was Taylor!
I decided to keep scrolling until I found the girl in the photo I found when I was kidnapped. And it wasn't an easy task. I started looking at not only the main focus of these images but also the corners, to see if I could find the mysterious stranger. Once I finished going through the first yearbook, I decided to go to social media instead of flipping through another yearbook.
But I only knew this person's initials so I didn't know what to type. Suddenly I heard a knock on the door, I opened it to see Taylor and Kaylee waiting outside, and they looked happy. Were they becoming friends?
"Come in," I said as I made way for them.
"What are these?" Taylor asked pointing to the yearbooks. Shit! I felt so guilty going without her, but I couldn't lie... Could I?
"Me and Kaylee snuck into the school from the picture and stole these" I said.
"What school?" She asked looking confused. That's when it hit me, she didn't know about Kaylee's invention. I felt bad for keeping her in the dark, she has done so much for me. But she wasn't jobless like Kaylee and I so I couldn't keep bothering her, I'm sure she'd understand.
"Well, Kaylee is actually a scientist and made a machine to help track the location," I said while holding Kaylee's shoulder.
"Right," She said sceptically. I didn't know why, she knew scientists existed right?
"What did you find in these books you stole?" She continued.
"Not much, as of now. I was trying to find her on social media but we don't know her name" I said sounding very discouraged.
"Well, it's only going to get harder for you to find this killer," Kaylee said in an unhappy tone.
"Why's that?" I asked cluelessly.
"Because there haven't been murders in almost a month, meaning we won't get any new clues and have to work with what we have, which isn't much" Taylor replied matter of factly.
It felt like the universe was against me trying to bring justice for Olivia, and those other innocent people who died at the hands of this psychopath.
"I have an idea!" Kaylee exclaimed jumping up and down while clapping her hands cutely.
"Can you stop being such a loser?" Taylor asked annoyed.
"Oh, I'm sorry," She said her head hung down in shame. I liked Taylor but she was being so rude. Sure, she was a little childish, but she didn't have to snap at her.
'What was your idea?" I asked her, smiling sweetly.
"We can try finding out where Olivia went the days before she was killed, maybe that could help us," She said looking hopefully.
"Hmm, that actually sounds great!" I said feeling hopeful that we could find the killer after all.
We both looked at Taylor, as though asking her opinion on this.
"I guess she's not completely useless," Taylor said. We both nodded.
As Kaylee and Taylor went to the fridge to get something to drink, I heard my phone buzz. I saw a message from the same person who texted me earlier!
"I am Olivia's mother... Can we meet?"
As soon as I finished reading that another message popped up with the address and time. I was relieved that I wasn't being texted by some serial killer.
"What are you looking at?" Taylor asked while handing me a glass of lemonade.
"My phone," I said. "Olivia's mom texted me, she wants me to meet her."
"Oh nice, I guess me and Taylor can work on the mystery while you're gone," Kaylee said.
"Or maybe you can help solve the mystery while you're there," Taylor said with a smug look on her face.
"No! I'm not gonna spy on her mom, ok?" I said. "Why would I find clues there anyway?"
"You can ask about Olivia, maybe where she went the days before her murder," Taylor said.
"Wow, good plan" Kaylee and I said together.
"When does she want you to meet her?" Kaylee asked while taking a sip of lemonade.
"At 10:30," I said. "Taylor, can you drop me there?"
"Yeah, sure." She said. I didn't actually need a ride, but I just wanted to see if she was mad at me.
"So, should we continue looking through the books?" Kaylee asked.
"Seems like we have nothing else to do," I said.
Taylor grabbed one of the books and sat between us, so we could all see.
"Wait! I have a better idea," Kaylee said and picked something out of her bag. She pressed a few buttons and suddenly the book was displayed on my television.
"Wow, these inventions are awesome! Why don't you sell them?" I asked, confused as to why she wasn't a millionaire right now.
"I've tried, but everything always thinks it's a scam," She said looking upset. I felt kind of bad for her, and Taylor just rolled her eyes.
I picked up my remote and we started looking through the book, this was more convenient since we could all see clearly, and we could zoom in whenever we wanted. The yearbook pretty much resembled the last one, except for a few different faces.
I didn't remember that this was Taylor's school until I saw a photo of her again.
"How come you never mentioned you go here?" I asked casually, I wasn't doubtful of her or anything.
"You never told me which school you went to" She replied imitating my tone. I decided not to ask further, she might take it the wrong way.
"So maybe you know who the killer is," Kaylee said bringing the image of the girl closer to Taylor's face.
"If I recognised her, I would've mentioned when we first found the picture," She said rolling her eyes in annoyance.
"Well maybe you can help narrow the search down," I said trying to take initiative. "You know anyone whose name began with C?"
"Yeah, I do," She said. "There's Casey, Clara, Caroline"
"Any of their surnames starting with A?" Kaylee asked hopefully.
"I don't remember their surnames," She said. "Besides, how will knowing the name help? It's not like there's a search engine"
Taylor always knew how to make me feel like an idiot, it was so hot.
We continued scrolling through the photos when I suddenly decided to stop.
"Let's stop for the day," I said quickly.
"We have time," Kaylee said.
"Yeah, I'd rather spend time with you guys," I said twinkling my eyes.
They both agreed and we made our way to my room. We all sat down on the bed telling stories about our pasts. It was great getting to know them better. I told them about my close relationship with Olivia and other things.
Eventually, it was time to sleep. We all somehow fit in my bed and I found myself hugging Taylor when I woke up. And to my surprise, she was hugging me back. I wasn't sure about my feelings anymore, I really liked Kaylee, but I could never forget the amazing nights I spent with Taylor. Like when we snuck into Cara Loft's party, or when she invited me to dinner.
Life was too complicated, it was times like this that made me wish Olivia was still here, she always gave the best advice and I could just open up to her.
I snapped out of my thoughts and got dressed to go meet Mrs Smith. By the time I got out of the bathroom, I saw the others awake and waiting for me on the bed.
I left to make breakfast while the two dressed up, we all had grilled cheese sandwiches. I looked at the clock and realized it was time to leave.
We wore spy earphones, Taylor and I got inside the car and Kaylee stayed behind in my house. It was a rather long journey so I listened to music on the way. We finally reached, I got out and Taylor would wait for me in the car.
I rang the doorbell which was answered almost immediately. A middle-aged woman with short blond hair and kind blue eyes opened the door. She looked so much like Olivia!
"Come in, darling," She said ushering me in. I took a moment to admire their well-decorated house.
I sat down on the couch with Mrs Smith beside me.
"I'm sorry, I don't mean to be forward," She said clearing her throat.
"But, I need to ask you something"
Author's note: Hey guys! I'm finally back! I know you all missed my updates, but they'll be regular from now, I hope. Anyway, the book is gonna get more intense, so be prepared for that 😈 And don't forget to vote, comment and other stuff. Bye!
