Family Dinners
Siren POV
After Crystal and I walked Adam and his new family home we walked back to my house.
"Lets just take a moment to appreciate that Adam was kissed by a girl." I nodded. "That's so unexpected."
"No it's not! Adam is very attractive. And kind. I'm not surprised," I said.
"Okay," she snorts. I sighed. We walked into my house and sat at the kitchen table. Lucy sat next to me.
"Did you find Adam?"
"Y-yes."
"Well, was he okay?" My mom asked. Crystal spoke up:
"Yea! He was cuddling with his girlfriend on the beach."
"They weren't cuddling. They were laying down and he had his arm around her."
"Was she pretty?" Lucy asked.
"Yea! She had long dirty blonde hair, and tan skin. I couldn't see what color her eyes were, but she was beautiful," Crystal answered.
"Oh, well I'd like to meet her sometime. Was she nice?"
"Well, we didn't talk to her. She kissed Adam's cheek, we gasped, and it looked like they had a silent disagreement. Then she walked away."
"Oh, well Adam's a charmer. He'll make it up to her."
Then I asked Lucy to tell me all about her and she did. Favorite color? Purple. Favorite animal? Dolphin. Wants a pet? Yes. I asked her a ton of questions and she answered them with optimism and happiness. I love this girl already.
Adam POV
"Uh how was swimming, Adam?" Courtney asked.
"Fun."
"What's Kayla like?"
"She's nice, and pretty." I continued to eat. My dad looked at me.
"That's not how he really feels though. I came home from work one day and saw him sitting on the couch. I crept up behind him and read his texts. They were playing truth or dare and he said truth and she asked if he thinks she's pretty. So he gave her this whole spiel about how beautiful she is. How did you word it. 'Your hair is like the sun rising to greet me every-'"
"Dad, stop. That conversation was private. She wasn't feeling herself and asked me dumb but meaningful questions and I gave her caring and honest answers. She is really insecure about herself sometimes when people are mean to her and I really don't need you to go around telling people about that conversation okay?"
"I don't understand how she can be insecure. She's a really good looking-"
"Dad, that's where people don't understand her. Why do people need to assume about people because of their appearance?"
My dad went silent. Everybody looked at me. After dinner, I washed the dishes and cleared the table. My dad walked in and we stared at each other for awhile.
"Dad, why didn't you tell me about Courtney?"
"I don't know. I guess it seemed like a good idea to wait until you met her to tell you about her. It was a good idea at the time."
"If you'd waited and told me before I don't think I would've reacted the way I did. I'm sorry I was so rude."
"I'm sorry I was so heartless. You lost your mother because I drove her away. And I'm sorry."
"Dad, you were trying to help me. I'm sorry I thought otherwise." He pulled me in for a hug and I accepted. "So, who's your best man?"
"You. Duh. Maybe one of the scientists would be first though. Just for the sake of her maid of honor. I could never live without you though, my son. Maybe little Lucy could be the ring bearer."
"That would be adorable." We laughed and he ruffled my hair.
"Hey, I told Courtney about how you play the guitar and sing."
(A/N no idea if this is true)
"So, go grab your guitar. And play something."
"Okay. What should I play?"
"How about your favorite song. What is it 'Riptide' by Vance Joy?"
"Okay." I went upstairs grabbed my guitar. I put on my capo and grabbed my pic.
"I asked if Adam would play a song for us and he said yes."
"What song?" Emma asked me.
"Riptide by Vance Joy." I started strumming then I sang.
"I was scared of dentists and the dark
I was scared of pretty girls and starting conversations
Oh all my friends are turning green
You're the magicians assistant in their dreams
Oh, oh, and they come unstuck."
Then Katie, Ally, and Emma sang the harmonies.
"Lady running down to the riptide taken away to the dark side
I wanna be your left hand man, I love you when you're sing that song and I got a lump in my throat cause you're gonna sing the words wrong."
We sang the rest of the song. Then I had an idea pop in my head.
"Emma, Ally, Katie I have an idea. Come on." I quickly put my guitar away and brought them outside.
"Where you going?"
"Showing them around Dad!"
I told them my idea and they agreed. This won't be so bad after all.
