Chapter 35: Henrik Von Shneepilstien
Where am I? I'm in a car, and my head is throbbing, but most of what happened just minutes ago is a blur.
"Henrik, don't go."
His face was so drained. Almost as if me leaving tore him right into depression. It probably did.
What do these people think I did? I don't even have a speeding ticket.
What caused such a violent thing to happen?
Before I can think of any sort of answer, we're at a jail.
I'm taken into an interrogation room.
"What happened in the room with Johnathan Green during his surgery?"
"I don't remember, that was years ago."
"Did you purposefully fail his surgery?"
"No! Why would I ever-"
"What about Samantha Tremingham?"
"I don't even know why I am here! I don't know why you took me from the love of my life! He was just getting back to responding again."
"Don't change the subject! I wonder how the Green and Tremingham families are doing since you killed them? They won't ever respond to anything again."
"I am, and have been, very sorry for their families, but I did nothing to sabotage their surgeries."
"Don't lie. We have you on video taking out Green's heart."
"It was a heart surgery! If I hadn't done that then he wouldn't have had the small chance I gave him!"
"I thought you said you didn't remember the details."
"Well you just gave me the details, it would make sense that I would remember when you give me the details."
"Note that he has an attitude, Riley. Did you have any part in Harold's death?"
"I am not speaking any further until I have a lawyer."
"Did you remember the details of Harold's death? Do you remember the bullet in his brain."
I flinch, but I don't speak. I remember his case, a very horrific case in dead. He was dead before he made it to my office, however.
"Speak, damnit!"
"You took away my friend's voice when you dragged me out of that room. I will not be speaking to you."
The man left the room, replaced quickly by another officer.
"I am so sorry for his behavior, sir, Doctor, correct?"
I nod my head.
"We have evidence that you were the reason 24 people died, all patients of yours, all deaths you called out."
I don't move.
"If you tell us what happened with them this can be over much faster. But you have to tell us."
Tears start to well up, "I don't remember all of their deaths, but I remember my friend's face as you and your stupid officer buddies dragged me away from him. It looked like he'd never speak again, and he knew it. You should have seen the pain in his face, only noticeable by a few people. It'd look like he had no emotions to most, but that subtle pain I could see swimming in his eyes was the most painful thing I have ever had to endure."
"That's why we're trying to get justice for these families. They have no hope, but this case."
"I have never let anyone die on my watch on purpose, in case that is what you were implying."
"Just read over these files, see if you remember anything."
"I want to speak with a lawyer."
"Of course."
I don't know how this shit works, goody two shoes over here, if anyone finds any inaccuracies, let me know. Hope you enjoyed!
