Chapter 23: Henrik Von Shneepilstien
We got some good news recently. The law enforcement think they have a good lead for Chase's kids. They say they could be home within the week.
I'm finally able to update Chase. I was so busy with work haven't been able to visit recently. I told him as much, but I still felt bad.
I walked through the door with the nurse, who was very loud about my presence, and sat down on the couch in his room.
"Hey Chase, we got a couple updates about your kids. The police think they know where they are, they just have to search and confirm. There's some good news."
I can't tell if he can hear me or not as he doesn't move at all. I'm not even sure he's breathing.
"Thankfully they have a good lead, we think they could come home within the week."
Again, no response. I'm mostly used to this, but it still hurts a little every time.
I took a shaky breath, and started telling Chase what had been going on in my days recently.
It was mostly about work, what kind of people come in, how coworkers have been acting. I talk about how I'm nervous to go into the surgery I have on Friday. I don't break doctor-patient confidentiality, but I came pretty close.
I don't really know what else to talk about, so I fall silent for a minute. Of course Chase doesn't say anything. The doctors here are trying to figure out if he's even conscious at all. They hope so, as it's much harder to get someone out of this when they aren't aware of who's in the room.
Everyone is worried about Chase, and no-one knows what to do. You think after a couple of months we'd all slowly move on, but Jackie and I don't really know how. Jamie seems put together, but we never really know what's going on. Only Marvin knows, and even then Jamie sometimes hides things from him.
The nurse eventually comes in to tell me my time is up, and I head home. Everyone is hoping for a full recovery from Chase.
Hope you enjoyed!
