Chapter 20: Jackieboyman
Finally, it's my birthday! I get to be the center of attention, and everyone is basically required to be nice to me, even Anti!
Although Chase and the kids were usually here for all the birthdays. I miss him a lot.
But that's beside the point! I'm not allowed to be sad today. It's my birthday, which means I have to be happy, otherwise all the effort everyone puts in goes to waste. I can't have that happen.
Even just walking out of my room for the first time is a magical experience.
Everyone is waiting for me in the living room, and they all say happy birthday. We go get cake and everyone sits and watches me open presents.
That's what it would be like on a normal birthday.
Today however, the living room is practically empty, and as I walk out, I feel nothing but sadness.
Of course, since it's my birthday I push it away, because I'm sure someone is putting effort forth to make this day special.
I start to wonder around the house, going through an empty kitchen, dining room, and stopping in the living room again.
As I pass Anti, he pushes me a little, making me fall over. I start to tear up.
I'm not crying because it hurt, I'm crying because no-one remembered my birthday this year. I get the circumstances are different than normal, but it still hurt, and this push was the final straw.
I hide my face from Anti as I race to my room as fast as I can without drawing attention to myself.
I sit down and just start crying. I'm bawling my eyes out, as quietly as I can as I still don't want anyone to know I'm crying. I turn on Marvel's Endgame, which I only ever watch when I'm sad now.
I sit through the whole movie and cry harder. I start the movie again, getting through at least a half hour before I hear a weak knock at the door.
I quickly sit up, turning my T.V. off and rubbing frantically at the tears in my eyes, hoping to make my face less red and puffy.
As I realize it isn't going to work I hang my head low and move toward the door as another, ever so slightly louder, knock rang through the room.
I open the door a crack and see Jamie on the other side, hands behind his back.
His word slide popped up, a worried look on his face. "Are you okay Jackie? I heard Endgame playing."
I smile, trying to play it off. "I'm fine Jamie. Promise!"
Jamie frowned. "Please don't make fake promises Jackie, you can't be alright, I know why too."
This confused me. "W-what?"
"Everyone forgot your birthday! I know how important they are to you. I wish I could tell them, but I can't speak, and most everyone all but ignores my slides. I got you something!"
I smiled, and started sobbing again. I threw myself onto Jamie, hugging him as tight as I could. Jamie chuckled a silent chuckle, while slowly pulling me into the room and shutting the door.
Eventually I let him go, and as soon as I do I see his word slide pop up, "Do you want to know what surprise I got you?"
"Yes!"
Jamie pulled a small cake out from behind his back, it had 3 candles on it. It didn't have anything on it but a layer of white frosting.
"I'm sorry they didn't have anything cooler, it was the only chocolate cake they had."
I stopped reading, gently picking the cake from him, careful not to drop it. I set it down and flung myself onto Jamie again. I didn't stop hugging him for quite a while. I didn't want to let go. I felt the familiar silent chuckle shake his body as he pulled me down to the bed. I let go as he pulled out a lighter and lit the candles.
"Make a wish Jackie."
I sat down at the desk that the cake was at and hung my head to make my wish.
Oh dear wish gods, please make my friend, Chase, feel better and wake up.
Hey y'all, I'm back in school and falling behind on chapters, so if I forget to update next Friday, yell at me until it's updated! That's why this is early today, today I have an open period. Hope you enjoyed!
